Unfortunately, neither is Aurier. And you’d think if Poch thought KWP had a real future that he’d play him way more.
The worst thing about this is we never even gave ourselves a chance. Dele, Eriksen, and Son all played very poorly. Kane, whether he was fit or not, had zero service and zero influence.
Been such a weird year. There’s a lot to look forward to, but it’ll take a while to get over the way we lost tonight.
I don’t know if you can say we dominated when we couldn’t turn possession into chances. Just shot ourselves in the dick a lot.
Don’t think anyone is. He got a lot of undeserved criticism this year solely based on the fact he often had to play much deeper. Toby’s going to hurt, too. We can’t do like for like on those guys in the transfer market.
Possession and shots on goal favored us heavily. Nonsense calls favored them heavily. Liverpool ending the game with no yellows is amazing and in brand.
We had a nice flurry in the second half but we had so much futility in the first 60 minutes in the attacking third. That’s what’s fresh in my mind.
Levy will need to spend if he wants to sniff this again with this general group of talent. Anyway, brilliant run, luck just ran out in the end.
Bullshit penalty changed to entire game. But we couldn’t finish anything so it didn’t really matter. Man that sucked.
Wish the penalty wasnt given, def isnt the reason we lost but it did change the game a lot. LP didnt have to take any risks. The Origi goal just a fortunate ball falling in at his feet, poor clear by dier, but it didn't even make me mad cuz we were down already. I was basically resigned to fact we were gonna lose after the PK. Which was a bummer lol
I’m not too upset because Liverpool is a very very good squad but I’d have loved to see how the match played out without that penalty
I’ve had roughly 25 guinnesses today. Bullshit penalty. Kane shouldn’t have started. Eriksen, Dele, and Son all shit the bed. More than anything I’m angry at Daniel Levy for not spending the money to get us over the hump. The best Spurs team in generations was one or two players away from actually winning something and he did fucking nothing.
Levy’s also far and away the main reason we’re in this position. We were in a tough spot with the stadium, and we tried making transfers but our financial situation coupled with how particular Poch is with incoming transfers makes it tough. I mean, we were extremely close to signing de Jong but he decided he needed one more year at Ajax. It still hurts bad this morning, but watching a lot of the post game interviews helped. I fucking love this group, shortcomings and all. Who knows if we’ll ever get back, but it was a special run that I think we’ll all remember fondly.
You guys are honestly probably in a better spot than we were last year. If you get some investment this summer you could win next year.
My guesses on who’s leaving Eriksen Toby Trippier Wanyama Lamela Llorente Vorm Eriksen and Toby are obviously huge losses. It’s hard for me to see either signing a new contract at this point, but stranger things have happened. Hopefully we’ll get around €110 million for both. Trippier just needs a new start somewhere else. Genuinely felt bad for the amount of (often deserved) criticism he took this year. Wanyama’s knees are done, and if we could get something decent for Lamela I think we should run with it. I’d be fine bringing Llorente back for one more year.
I’d also be fine for llorente coming back. He served such an interesting niche this season. Hugely responsible for the second half of the second leg at Ajax winning something like 13 of 15 balls.
Levy deserves a ton of credit for how much the club had improved under him. I don’t deny that. But the last two transfer windows were complete failures and he was responsible. Yesterday was actually the perfect microcosm of Levy’s tenure. Much improved from where we were 5 years ago and reaching heights we could hardly dream about, but not winning anything because we lack just that little bit of extra quality that makes the difference between two good teams.
Agreed, but I don’t want us to have to play like that again. Hopefully we invest in our midfield so we’re not forced to completely bypass them with long balls.
We have to get players who can help us break down defenses and provide that final ball we were so desperately lacking yesterday. Maybe Lo Celso and Ndombele are those guys, but we’re looking at probably 120 million there. And that’s kind of our crux - if we spent that and they aren’t, we’re in trouble. We can’t absorb Fred and Mahrez type big money flops. It would cripple us.
