I agree to a large extent with that, but I think it overplays the strength of this team. A lot of the regulars this season just fell flat (Trippier, Dier, Wanyama, Dele) or were injured for large spells of the season (Dier (again), Wanyama (ditto), Kane, Winks, Lamela) that the season sort sputtered out in February, some incredibly wild elimination cup ties aside. They were only really looking at adding one additional midfield player like a Grealish that I think they would have helped but hardly would have propelled this club any further than top 4 and a champions league final. This could be a blessing in disguise because we know what we have now. Most of the kids are now grown up and closer to their finished products. This is a good season to clear out the chronically injured (Lamela) or underperforming ( Trippier,Wanyama does both now) members of the squad and get a couple bits of new blood in to move to the next stage where this team is consistently competing for silverware. I think Eriksen is probably gone, and while that hurts if we can add Lo Celso and N'Dombele it wouldn't equal Eriksen but it would allow the team to go in a different direction. Toby might be gone, but that replacement was bought for 42 million pounds a few years ago. Get Trippier sent to the sun, trick Aurier to leave the team and get a functional Right back and the squad is in a better place. Poche's coaching seriously accelerated the timeline for success, while the stadium delays dragged it out. Spurs consolidated their spot in the top 4 a couple years early. The stadium was supposed to open last year and we were supposed to start being the "big" squad this season. Since Poche joined there's been that weird tension between where we were financially and where we were in the table. That gap has flipped and we can start acting like it now.
Some chatter that Betis have moved the goal posts on Lo Celso, and now want €100m for him. Don’t think Levy will take kindly to that, so who knows what’s going to happen there. Apparently we’ve emerged in the Bruno Fernandes sweepstakes as well, but it’s nearly impossible to see him somewhere other than Manchester next year. Resign Eriksen, sign Ndombele, Sessegnon, and a RB and you have a perfect summer, even if Toby leaves.
Lo Celso's release clause is that 100m fancy E's figure, about 88.64M fancy L's (what I'll be using for the rest of the post). The initial rejected bid was 50m plus add-ons coming up to 62m. Some Lo Celso rep's hope they can get Betis down to the 70's and we can find a happy medium somewhere. If Eriksen resigns, I still want SOME backup there, but not necessarily over twice our record transfer fee. If Eriksen is gone, break that fucking bank open.
Well it was nice to think for 24 hours we might keep Eriksen Christian Eriksen says he is ready to leave Tottenham for new challenge Midfielder says any move ‘would have to be a step up’ Real Madrid may have to pay £130m to buy him this summer https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...-eriksen-says-he-is-ready-for-a-new-challenge
kinda sounds like a net positive for spurs. he says that if there isn't anything that would be considered a step up, he'd like to stay at spurs. basically, it sounds like if real want him, they can have him, otherwise he'll sign a new contract.
The risk with that is he runs down his contract and leaves on a free transfer next summer. Gotta get something - within reason - for him this summer if he doesn’t agree to an extension.
He would be silly not to agree to an extension under those circumstances unless he thinks he can get that much more money elsewhere.
I don’t follow. Why would he feel compelled to sign an extension if we don’t sell him this summer? Not a fan of that idea. We’d have even less leverage in January and would be forced the sell at an even bigger discount. And not to mention that’d be a giant hole in the roster to replace in the middle of the season. I’d rather sell now and bring in a replacement this summer to integrate into the team.
the site seems to hate logos that are much taller than they are wide for some reason, so you guys will have to re-add your spurs fan of sry (i think it is fixed now)
Because he can double his salary for a year and not risk getting injured in agreement for maybe a future release or a reasonable release clause.
After the last year I just want to buy someone. But I can't get caught up in the rumor mill, won't think we're getting a new player until I see him holding a jersey.
I’m sure there’s way more involved than I’ll ever know with these signings. But how on earth do we not have a deal finalized for Sessegnon yet? We’ve been after him for a couple years now. He seemingly wants to come here. Fulham are going down, and have known they’re going down for a while. You’d think we’d have an idea on how much it’s going to take to sign him. They need the money. What’s the hold up here? Fulham taking their time hoping one of the Manchester teams come in with an overpay?
United have offices in London. Spoiler We're not getting him imo. Pretty sure City have a London office as well fwiw.
Yeah, most of the bigger ones will have a London office, I am sure he's seeing multiple clubs. I wouldn't want to miss a tour of those new training facilities and the stadium though.
Now this being in the Guardian is a good sign https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...ssegnon-not-renew-fulham-wants-tottenham-move
There will be signings, of that we’re sure. I just hope the bulk of them are made prior to the start of training camp.
If we get Sessegnon, would you consider a Digne for Rose swap? I think I would. Sessegnon can play up the wing and give Digne a break when needed. I guess the same can be said for Rose, but I think Digne has more upside and more left in the tank, plus better finishing product.
There’s zero chance Everton would do a straight swamp of Rose for Digne. I also don’t think Sessegnon is close to being an every day LB for us. I’d prefer to keep Danny in the squad, anyway.
Do we prefer Fernandes or Lo Celso? Seems like it might come down to whoever we can agree with first.
I'll take either and be super happy. Fernandes offensive statistics are just gaudy, but he plays in a weaker league.
We MIGHT be letting Llorente go. Unclear and unconfirmed by the club at this time. If so, that would speak to our intentions in this window.
Would be happy with either but would rather have Lo Celso just because he was in a stronger league. I think our links to Fernandes is probably way overblown though.
Hopefully true. I was very impressed by him in the first half yesterday. He is definitely a play maker and I don't see why his game won't translate into the Premier League. Lot's of conflicting reports out there pushing Man U though. https://tbrfootball.com/report-tottenham-beating-manchester-united-after-62-5m-bid-accepted/
That's BR reporting on a O Jogo report. r/reddevils rate them as Tier 2 and therefore mildly reliable? I'd like it to be true. I don't understand the part where ManU have not tabled an offer yet? Seems weird that they were reportedly on the cusp of signing him and yet haven't made an offer.
Yes, I added another link after you posted. I really want this one to be true. if we get him or Lo Celso or both we are on our way, but one of the two feels like a must at this point. That said, it sounds like Real is going to have serious issues figuring out how to make Eriksen fit into their FFP picture unless they are able to dump some players. Not sure how salary fits in, but assuming it doesn't, maybe they figure out a way to take on Bale's salary and get a high fee for him to balance things out. I would be uip for s spending $60-75M on Bale if we don't have to pay his salary. Not sure that Real would do that though. Hard to think we wouldn't be a better team with those two minus Eriksen. Our offense would be scary. I know people are not as high on Bale due to age and injuries but he played a lot more games than people realized last year and I can't even imagine wings of Bale and Son with Kane and Dele in the center.
I am gonna be honest here, Bruno is not up to snuff in the handsomeness department. Looks like a rich man's Mesut Ozil with eyes that at least stare in the same direction.
LOL, I can't say that didn't cross my mind but he looked better in the game yesterday than in pictures. In fairness we have taken some steps backward over the past few years with the losses of Gylfi and Chadli.
Stories coming out today that Real isn’t interested in Eriksen and he may now re-sign with Spurs. Would be a great turn of events. If that does happen, it’ll be interesting to see how hard we still go after N’dombele and Lo Celso.
