That first skyscraper shot looks straight out of TDK.
Also a big fan of JDW
I've been waiting for a feature film on former CIA director George Tenet. My prayers have been answered.
“I need some idea of the type of threat we face.”
“As I understand it, we are trying to prevent WW3.”
“No, something worse.”
My goodness that exchange was awesome.
Officially in for this one.
A spy thriller with what seems like time travel?
SIGN ME UP.
My body is ready not sure about my mind yet.
I have two questions, in this order:
1. When can I buy tickets?
2. What the fuck is going on?
No clue what is happening
We don't deserve Christopher Nolan.
Ludwig Goransson is a boss. Worked on Community, met Donald Glover and collaborated with Childish Gambino, won an Oscar for Black Panther, now does the Mandalorian and Chris Nolan movies.
Is this Boomerang app the movie?
That's why it is a good trailer and why a lot ruin movies.
So this HAS to have something to do with the Sator Square right?
comes out the day before my wedding. looks like i have some reshuffling to do
I remember seeing a youtube video of Donald Glover explaining Truffaut/"true faux" to Ludwig while recording That Power and absolutely loving it.
This looks like a sequel to Inception and i'm HERE FOR IT.
Just about a 100% chance I'm seeing it in 70mm on release day.
saw it and instantly thought "yep, definitely a Christopher Nolan movie"
Need more Pattinson!
And Nolan is the director of the decade....that’s obvious right?
Either him or the Guardians of the Galaxy guy....
Very disappointed. Needed more this:
In addition to being a palindrome, I’d also say “TENET” qualifies as an ambigram. Especially if the “T”s are lower case. Oranjello mentioned this in relation to the “SONOS” logo in the random thoughts thread.
“An ambigram is a word, art form or other symbolic representation whose elements retain meaning when viewed or interpreted from a different direction, perspective, or orientation.”
Can’t flip this thing upside down;
Very close to this;
When I saw Michael Caine I had this feeling.
He's certainly in the top 10. But I would put Villeneuve & Paul Thomas Anderson ahead of him. With Garland, Wes Anderson, Bigelow & Chazelle in the conversation.
Sicario-Arrival is a crazy 1-2 punch considering Arrival came out 13 months after Sicario.
I absolutely adore villeneuve and he’s got a bright future but his decade doesn’t compare to Nolan’s imo.
Haven’t seen Jojo Rabbit yet, but Taika has that, What We Do in the Shadows, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Thor Ragnarok
II love Nolan and will always fanboy his movies, but Denis Villeneuve has had a better decade than Nolan by far.
6. Blade Runner 2049
I would consider four of those (Incendies, Prisoners, Enemy, and Arrival) among the best movies of the decade. Sicario was really good as well, and while I didn't love Blade Runner, I could see why people liked it a lot.
Inception is IMO one of the best films ever made. TDKR sucked. Interstellar was great but probably a little too long. Dunkirk was great as well but not one of Nolan's best.
That's 3 good movies. You could make an argument for Inarritu (biutiful, birdman, revenant) over Nolan, but I don't think you can make an argument for Inarritu over Villeneuve.
Dunkirk is a masterpiece
Incendies and Enemy are two of the best movies I've ever seen. Not including them on Villeneuve's list is criminal.
Dear lord yes at that whole thing
Villenueve is so damn good, so fucking hyped for his take on Dune
You are disqualified from having an opinion. Alex Garland? PTA? Bigelow???
What are you talking about.
Yeah bigelow is a bridge too far
Alex Garland and PTA had pretty unimpeachable output this decade.
Fincher had Social Network and Gone Girl, which is a pretty elite tandem for the decade
She made two outstanding movies in Zero Dark Thirty and Detroit, but you can't have her on a list and not include Inarritu, who made three, and Cuaron, who made two better.
The best director of the decade in terms of both quality and quantity is Denis Villeneuve, and as they say....it's not even close.
Fincher hasn't made a movie since 2014, but Social Network, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and Gone Girl is a pretty great run.
Garland made Ex Machina and Annihilation (and I didn't even like Annihilation)
PTA had The Master, Inherent Vice (not very good), and Phantom Thread
1-2 good movies is not unimpeachable. They don't belong on the list. Give me Almodovar over both.
Belongs on the list over most named ITT. Bonus if he gets added consideration for his contribution to television.
