No. Only matters if it’s a name that is different than given
I would be absolutely insufferable about that. Chris is not the given name.
No child is going to be called by a middle name in my classroom without a signed permission slip
we are diverse.
A piece from the Day of Remembrance i really enjoyed.
Fuck that’s horrible. This country sucks.
The way the police handled the Brandon Teena case will always be one of the saddest things i've ever read.
Wife shared this with me and I thought this was a great example of parents supporting their child and introducing them to the world as they really are ❤️
glimmer do you feel like you knew this early in life?
it just seems so early to me, on the other hand You figure out what handedness you are pretty early, I guess it could feel similar where it just never feels right to write with your non-dominant hand
I felt like the mom was leading the kid along a little bit but that may not necessarily be a bad thing if the mom already had an inkling based off of prior behavior
Been prescribing HRT to a handful of mtf patients now for most of the last decade. Some of the stories they have of growing up, transitioning and shit they deal with living in a super red state just makes me really sad.
Okay, but now realize that pretty much every parent does the exact same thing but with cis-kids. We’re fed every minute of every day what it means to be a boy or a girl and most of it is just bullshit.
like I said, it’s not necessarily a bad thing
My wife’s cousin is trans and he’s fucking awesome. One of the coolest people I’ve ever met
You don’t have to discuss, but generally what’s the standard of care? Obviously estrogen, but how do you manage lowering testosterone? Do you put them on a low dose exogenous T to shut down natural production and lower it that way? Is it just estrogen or does the process include progesterone, etc?
I definitely wouldn’t say I had much of an idea at that age, but I grew up with the polar opposite sort of environment. It wasn’t until late middle school when I really started to get a sense of the differences in boys and girls that i knew.
yep. reading a gender affirming children’s book is definitely better than the authoritarian alternative of forcing the kid to wear something they don’t want.
spironolactone is pretty much the go-to T blocker from my experience.
i’m looking forward to starting progesterone in the near future
Spironolactone is easiest and cheapest. Lupron is far superior but crazy expensive and most of the time insurance doesn’t pay for it (at least in my limited experience). Lupron more tolerated usually.
Careful with progesterone. I’m not a big fan. Too many side effects/risks compared to benefits imo. Data isn’t great to support it. Better E + Spironolactone imo. Some women fee better on progesterone but idk if it’s worth it
Appreciate the info. When you say better E, are there different types of exogenous estrogen synthesized down to estradiol, estriol, etc? Or does the person take a general estrogen medicine that then is metabolized in the body to the different forms?
my whole interest in working in P to my routine is vanity honestly, just chasing more chest and hips. E has been kind to me already in that regard and i’ve heard that’s the biggest plus to P
what would you say are your major concerns with it?
Estradiol always preferred.
progesterone increases the rates of cardiac events, strokes, blood clots, and breast cancer.
huge caveat is 100% of the data is from post-menopausal cis women.
Reportedly progesterones do increase boob growth significantly and “fill out” the remaining breast development that is incomplete from estradiol alone, but anecdotally every single mtf patient I prescribe for has already had top surgery so I don’t think there’s much of any gain in those cases.
I’ve read it’s supposed to help with mood, but I don’t think any of that is scientifically based fwiw.
*edit* also the risk of blood clots on hrt is no joke so I always encourage avoiding obesity, smoking, etc as much as possible
thanks for all that. It’s always nice to hear from more people who actually know what they’re talking about. plenty of trans women online pass around bad or iffy info. lots of diy happening.
Yeah there’s a culture of “if it feels good, it must be good” and since there’s no research it’s kind of the Wild West out there. Trans gals have such a high rate of substance abuse, anxiety/depression, bad social situations, DV outcomes, etc I just tend to err on the side of safety and do as little harm as possible.
I’ve been super busy for the last month or so and hadn’t seen this thread
But every so often I feel pangs of regret for what this board was originally and the shit I actively participated in. I don’t know if that’s just me or if Mix is the same way, but it can feel really shitty in hindsight to go back and read old stuff on here and know that you’re in no small part responsible for it having a platform
I say this to say that reading this thread might be the best I’ve ever felt about this dumb fucking website. It’s truly mind blowing how it’s evolved. I’m really glad it grew into a place you feel comfortable, glimmer
as someone who has known you for over a decade I say this sincerely, don’t blame yourself for who we were. I knew better and still participated in some of the bullshit. At least we put an end to a lot of it.
FWIW, I’ve been on here since the beginning and it’s pretty much the only forum/message board I visit. While it is (or was) nominally a college football message board, I love the breadth of knowledge and experience that the board as a whole has. Speaking for myself but I don’t know that I would have matured as I feel I have on many issues without this board. This thread is a perfect example. It’s done a lot of good.
I would guess almost everybody feels the same way you do. Don’t blame yourself for being what you were at 20, be glad that you found the wisdom to learn and grow from it.
The #Alabama Crimson Tide contingent on here have known glimmer for a very long time, and it honored us that she felt comfortable enough with us to share her story in Champs, and heartwarming that we instantly embraced her for who she was.
We both know that wouldn’t have been the case 12 years ago, but the fact of what we did in that moment is so much more meaningful when you reflect on how far we’ve come.
I still laugh about that day. She was like "btw I'm trans, y'all." And the response was basically "oh cool, glad you're happy, love you, but when are we going to fire Pete!?!"
I still laugh at this post.
Probably the best post of all time imo
This place is just a reflection of society, but more progressive. The internet grew up with us (as much as we did with it), and was the place where society decided to take its most extreme views, and found ways to normalize all of them. Some of that was harmful (hate speech, pedophelia), and some was beneficial (marginalized groups found more people like themselves and found a voice). Society, as a whole, has moved towards caring about people more, and that reflects positively on human nature, in general.
This board has grown up some, but the internet definitely hasn't. Facebook, bs misinformation & things of that ilk are the anal warts of digital media, the internet, and society in general.
Used to be a real big piece of shit with slicked back hair
eh some of that is boomers
deleting it rather than hiding it behind a small paywall might help
No argument here. Still matters when they're the ones running shit.
Can we get rid of a smily and a face while we’re still improving
Maybe this one?
being estranged from my family for the last 10 months has made the holidays rough as hell for me this year, but this board’s overwhelming support has truly helped. to everyone: thank u ❤️
Come to Jax and get some Dbl Fried Turkey.
If you have to ask
Luckily he's now a much smaller piece of shit. Not sure on his current folical situation though.
Thanks, the couch smiley should probably go too
This is CANCEL CULTURE and my heritage is now in TATTERS!!
And yet, if you go back to rivals now...well...yikes.
