it seems like you’re attempting to start a fight for no reason. “God” or better said religion is fucked up. If there is a God some of the shit it allows seems to make it a huge asshole. Pointing that out isn’t outrageous especially when these hateful laws are made in its name.
i hate those kind of people just like non believers do. they are not real christians in my eyes, they are scum of the earth. piece of shit human beings. i am not mad or upset at people who choose not to believe, they are allowed to have that belief.
The American version of Christianity is garbage. I don't really care if you're religious and this hurts you either. Remember the KKK's revival in the South started in the Chrisitan Church. Those same people happily took part in brutal beatings and hangings as well. The descendants of those people are just doing the same crap in a different way today. Christianity has been a net negative for America and the country would be a much better and happier place without it
codifying red meat and cruelty as lawful action seems like a bad precedent to set as a governing body
Ehhhh the issue isn't really God or the Bible, it's people disguising their bigoty as religion. They don't want to come out and say they hate LGBTQ so they hide behind religion and think that makes it acceptable.
that’s why I said “it seems like you are” and asked what you’re doing. these two quotes were weird. these laws are directly tied to religion and religious beliefs. Pointing out the hypocrisy doesn’t seem out of line. IMO in the context of the current conversation “god” and “religion” are interchangeable.
I typed up this big paragraph to respond with explaining myself but I realize it isn’t worth it. People will have their beliefs, I don’t judge or shit on others and I don’t think it is fair that others should judge what I and others believe in. I agree with everyone here that Abbott and majority of Texans and lots of others are absolute shit fucking people who deserve the worst. They are not good human beings. Plain and simple.
Seems like desantis and abbott are trying to race (not literally because abbott is in a wheelchair lmao) to see who can pass the shittiest laws in order to be trumps replacement
Using religion to justify your hate is as old as time. Spirituality /faith might be good things unfortunately man made religion is crap. Religions are hypocrisy filled institutions. When you’re religion teaches hate it’s not hiding behind it, it’s using it as a spear to kill.
Former Texas power chief says Greg Abbott directed him to charge customers max amount during winter outages Bill Magness, the former CEO of the Electric Reliabilty Council of Texas (ERCOT), testified in court on Wednesday that millions of Texans received sky-high energy bills during last winter's deep freeze based on the instructions of Gov. Greg Abbott. The Houston Chronicle reports that Magness alleged under oath that " when he ordered power prices to stay at the maximum price cap for days on end during last year’s frigid winter storm and blackout, running up billions of dollars in bills for power companies, he was following the direction" of the Texas governor.
I don't think the religion teaches that but far too many churches do. My wife has been dealing with coming to this realization over the last decade. *I'm not a religious guy
lol why? Are your feelings hurt as your state is looking to round up trans kids in the name of religion.
If you want Christian God’s view of humans, you merely need to review his thoughts on the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Dude objectively sucks.
in a lot of ways I’m your stereotypical California guy. In that way I’d call myself spiritual not religious I’m more agnostic than anything.
well then thank you for coming in this thread and reminding us to focus on the real problem, how we talk about god and Christianity.
fwiw these laws are based on religion so we aren’t really arguing a different topic just the root of the hate. Maybe “root” is the wrong word to use but religion seems to drive a ton of the hate.
It's so weird to me all the heat Muslims get here (Not really when you remember what a racist shithole America is). Christians have caused more suffering and pain in America than any kind of other religious force could ever fucking hope to AND NO SEPTEMBER 11TH DOESN'T EVEN PUT A DENT IN THE BAD SHIT AMERICAN CHRISTIANITY HAS CAUSED. America is the reason that terrorist group existed in the fucking first place. America is the reason 9/11 even happened not anyone else. Spoiler DONT FORGET OUR "ALLIES" WHO FUNDED 9/11 IN SAUDIA ARABIA BUT PLEASE IGNORE THAT AND DON'T FORGET THE IRANIANS ARE THE TRUE ENEMY
Texas has, without a doubt, become state #1 in terms of being the worst. It absolutely sucks because the size of it means they have a TON of good people. But, the amount of money outsourced to influence things, the proximity & influence from the worst of the past, the population of the worst, size, etc. It’s literally the worst fucking state in the union at this point. It’s leading the way with a ton of abhorrent policies, it has a bunch of shitty people at the top, it also has a superiority complex that allows it to believe it’s stronger than…things like climate. So, being able to marginalize an entire group while trying to criminalize those that aren’t assholes is Texas trying to swing their dick. Sorry for our best Texas posters, but your state fucking sucks ass more than any other in the country.
This was the initial point. We all know most organized religions and the people who hurt people in their name suck. What we should really be talking about is why people think actual God is some kind and loving diety. Humanity fucking sucks and has for centuries. If God loves any of us, it's the assholes hurting other people. There is no evidence of it being the other way.
I do appreciate knowing a ton of good Texas people exist on this site. I’m from Nebraska, obviously shit as well, but doesn’t have the influence to show it on a larger scale. Oregon, where I currently live has a horrible racist past and the tentacles of that still exist throughout the state even with a lot of good people trying to make that disappear. I realize you good folks are out there, I realize you struggling like glimmer that this is a hard fucking day. I will say, if things ever come to be so fucking hard, don’t be afraid to DM me if you need a place to stay. No rent charged till a person needs to get on their feet.
I am so sorry this is going on for you and others. It isn't fair or something anybody deserves and please know that I support you and millions of others support you.
glimmer I am greatly saddened that you and others have to deal with such ignorance and bigotry. I don’t know what to say except that I hope you stay safe. Continue to remember that you are courageous for being who you know you are during this difficult time. I hope to show as much courage standing along side you in this fight for tolerance and equality.
Cool, for every trans person that get assaulted people should be allowed to beat dogshit out of her and if she dies o well. Don’t call for violence if you’re not willing to get your own ass whipped.. fuck bitch
That story of the tree in the garden can only be interpreted as God being a dick if you take it literally. If you don’t believe that God is real and people made up the story, then it’s just another way to express the reasonable sentiment that “ignorance is bliss.”
That's the story of organized religion: give us your money, do what we tell you, and don't ask questions.
I often have to remind myself that what they want is kind of this **physical** confrontation. They couldn’t honestly win it. They want a war built on firearms and a couple of MAGA’s with muscles. So the guns become so important to them. Sooooo important. And the rhetoric. it’s really hard to not engage tbh. I’m not going to lie.
The problem is your first instinct was to defend religion/God instead of calling out the negative aspects of those who share your belief system, even if their actions do not align with your beliefs/actions as an individual within the collective. That's THE issue with religion and communal belief systems (see: nationalism). They're toxic and implicitly and explicitly promote harm of "outsiders" with very little to no pushback from the in-crowd.
glimmer - I have this tomorrow as part of the chamber. Think it would have been more effective as an in-person event but it's great to see the effort to have educational and connective events like this.
l have several times on this board and many times in real life. I don’t want to go back and forth with you guys on it as it does no good. Think what you want.
First instincts matter. I don't care to continue going back and forth either. I hope we both can admit that religion plays a major role in the tragic issues the trans community faces, especially in the U.S., and focus on supporting glimmer and others in her community in the face of grotesque subjugation by politicians largely spurred on by their radical Evangelical supporters.
today’s another pretty low day. this is the first time i’ve experienced the right wing hate machine encircling a group i am a part of. im a big girl but the weight of the laws (both proposed and passed) along with the negative media attention on trans people truly feels oppressive. that being said, i really really appreciate all of the support from everyone. in times like this, every little bit of encouragement helps. and on the bright side: i plan to be neighbors with Odin in like 9 weeks, so i can finally peace out from this cursed state
