Just finished up season one. Yeah I know, late to the game, never had HBO and got HBO Now a few days ago. Holy shit this is great television.
Why? People need to live in the moment more when watching TV shows and movies. Was that shit thoroughly entertaining when you were watching it? If yes, then be happy stop overanalyzing it.
I honestly have never heard anyone trash Season 1. I need to research so I can tell them to fuck off.
I found one of these people. She is such a fucking tool. https://www.newyorker.com/culture/culture-desk/the-disappointing-finale-of-true-detective
If someone didn’t like the ending of the first season of True Detective, then they didn’t understand it and need someone to explain it to them. If you understand what Rust is saying about “perfect endings” and the battle of good vs. evil, then it’s fucking genius.
To be fair I didn't love the ending, but the rest was so good it's still in my top 3-5 shows of all time.
The ending wasn't "world ending" but didn't take away from the series. It was nice to see both men come to grips with the things that haunted them for years. To me the murder and mystery was just part of the story. When they talk about "time being a flat circle" its more about both of them having to repeat the same mistakes over and over again, till they figured it out. The anwsers to all that haunted them was alway right in their faces. Whether that was the Yellow King, Marty's family life, Rust's take on religion and his family. They like everyone else in the show was avoiding reality. Maybe I'm going on some bullshit tangent but its how I viewed it.
Just finished a rewatch of Season 1 and I forgot how utterly masterful it was. I don’t understand anyone who doesn’t like it. So well acted and the story was excellent.
Season one of True Detective was one of the best television seasons of all time. I may rewatch it as well.
first thing I thought of was the west memphis 3, I'm glad they are going back to what appears a small country town mystery over the big city LA stuff from S2
Alamo drafthouse here sent an email yesterday pay for a $5 food voucher and get a free ticket to see the 1st 2 episodes on 12/18. managed to get 2 tickets before it sold out in like 45 minutes. Pretty cool idea and only saw them doing it at one showtime at one theater so probably got pretty lucky to get 2 seats. Gonna suck if the episodes are great and then have to wait 6 weeks for episode 3. at the same time if the first 2 eps come out like Season 2 started I can go ahead and just forget that they made a 3rd season altogether.
Saw Eps 1-2 last night. Nothing to spoil but will put thoughts in spoiler anyways. Just general takeaways from the episodes Spoiler They read the internet. Very obvious that they saw the praise of season 1 and hate of season 2 and said lets just do season 1 again. Really felt like I was watching "another version of S1" Small rural town full of lower class people Dark Culty murder mystery vibe (even a new twig figurine) 2 detectives + multiple timelines = original occurrence / 10-15 years later "interview with police" ab original thing / 10 years later = present day and even newer info on original occurrence Mahershala Ali's acting is great and he carries the show well as the lead. His character is dark/badass like Rust but not quite as cool of a backstory IMO Dorff actually does a good job playing the Marty role: stubbord, old fashioned, simple minded, always drives the car and is buddies with the force and has to vouch / get everyone to respect his partner who does all the work. music, cinematography, general feel of the episodes was exactly like season 1 which is great. 2 eps showed serious potential and also a fucking doozy of a cliffhanger that I'll now wait 6 fucking weeks to see. S1 was a 10/10 all around. First 2 eps I give a 8/10 with lots of potential.
Just saw a post from one of my friends with Stephen Dorf and the director. She plays a nurse on the show. She sells makeup irl
She was back in the day. Married (I think she still is) with 2 kids now. Another guy I worked with is a state trooper on the show.
