Gay marriage wasn’t lawful anywhere in the United States until 2004. In 2008 the platform of the Democratic candidate for president was against gay marriage. The Supreme Court can strike down gay marriage tomorrow and the country will have made substantial progress on this issue alone over the last 20 years.
Shit like this^ what’s the point in the court if we’re doing stuff like this. I’m fucking tired of Isreal
Dobbs cost the GOP pretty significant political power in 2022 and gay marriage polls as more popular than abortion. I think they’re much more likely to focus their evil gaze on trans people and immigrants than gay or interracial marriage for that reason and that is where my concern is
didn’t get the senate and barely won the house in 2022, still watching deep red states vote against their position on the issue
that’s because the American electorates attention span is about two years long and also burger expensive
That’s the whole point, due to the electorate being brain dead idiots the “significant” losses in 2022 are completely meaningless in 2025. Lost that battle but won the war in a sense. Especially once they put in the national abortion ban that is 100% coming.
I love still being finger wagged despite having been right about knowing exactly what this racist ass country would do during that election….
I’m not trying to finger wag you, I am just saying I don’t foresee gay marriage being their target. I have been wrong before and I will be again tho
I was just at an ag conference where they provided an update to producers on labor/migrant workers/h2a visas for 2025. This industry is heavily reliant on labor for harvest. Part 1: You will no longer have to pay your workers so much or provide them with these basic protections. The new administration will kill these bills (THE REAPING) Part 2: BUUUUUUT the people around the new administration want your entire workforce to die and to get rid of the worker visa program that your entire livelihood is dependent on (THE SOWING). FAFO I said to myself. If you think eggs are expensive now, try making any fruit pie this summer. They tried to calm the mood by saying, they want to just target felons. Lmbo. These fucking slugs
I remember saying his bitch ass will never face any real consequences and being admonished with “well he was convicted and he has been fined almost a billion dollars”. lol
Shit like Russia and the rule of law used to poll a certain way too. The current media and social media climate has made it so you can’t really predict how people’s opinions may change. I think being confident xyz will or won’t happy is being a little naive to the times.
We don't even need to look very far back to see an example. Obama had as much of a mandate as one could get in 08 and was kneecapped by 10. This isn't to say that people's feelings aren't valid. Just that the call of the void isn't the future
some of us are old enough that we remember being told roe v wade was the law of the land and we were being alarmist worrying about it. If you guys truly believe nothing will fundamentally change in the US in trump’s second term, then what’s the big deal. Not meant to be a low blow but didn’t you two talk about your wives being distraught about the election results? I remember you two being empathetic about their feelings if nothing is going to change like you guys seem to be arguing, are you now saying they overreacted?
I have never argued nothing is going to change and in fact on the last page said specifically who I think will be the target of the GOP’s hateful rhetoric in this cycle I am not going to spend four years raging at every shithead from Idaho who introduces a bill to maybe send a pointless letter or every nerd journalist that gets mad when Trump violates some norm. I’m just not. I did that last time and I’m not going to waste my mental health on shit that doesn’t matter yet When there is something horrible to freak out about I’ll be right here shitposting about it with all of you
Which is exactly the problem. If Trump can make people think eggs aren’t expensive, they would face no real consequences from invalidating Obergfell.
I get what you mean and maybe I’m misunderstanding your intent but seems like you’re quickly to dismiss the possibility of fundamental change. Maybe you believe only small things will happen and I hope you’re correct. I’m just not willing to accept that nothing big will happen. I think republicans will go after things like gay marriage. I think marginalized communities will be under attack.
Really sucks because the current president is great, but it's a woman. Wonder how long before they get rid of her.
I don’t think they go after gay or interracial marriage and I believe they will satiate their religious nut job wing with a hateful and despicable anti trans bill of some kind under the guise of protecting girls sports I also believe they will do some outrageously fucked up shit with immigration and give away trillions to rich people and try some other demented things through the bureaucracy (the effectiveness of which is tbd)
There’s far more important things to argue about than taking exaggerated reads from the opinions of me and my racist friend gfa
I'm not quite sure I'd say gay marriage is in jeopardy, but it does seem like there's been an uptick in outward opposition of it being legal.
In at least one state weren’t they trying to circumvent the will of the people wrt an abortion ban? They put it on the ballot and it was defeated but that didn’t stop these people. Eat Arby’s
