They did a lot of things that actually helped people and it did not matter. You should engage with the substance of what I said. You can go through the things the Biden admin did and see there were plenty of things they did whether it was student loans, CTC, IRA, they're work on oil reserves that lowered gas prices, he was the first president to visit striking workers, CHIPS, lowering the cost of a number of prescription drugs and on and on. It didn't matter People really stuck on this narrative that the county can be saved if you say or do just the right thing and it's not reality
I really feel like it should it trigger something internally for you to reevaluate when you start inventing positions to argue against
Cocaine Mitch had the singular power to do something about Donald Trump in 2021, I hope he burns with rage at himself for not doing it. I hope Trump continues to make fun of his wife. I hope Mitch dies slow and painfully for what he has done to our country
So now that we’re starting to round up these people and already having issues getting them somewhere the only thing we’re missing is the camps and final solution right? We’re literally a step or two away from 1930’s Germany. Once they ramp up the efforts and run into the overpopulation of immigrants shits gonna get dark.
which part ? The part about the 14th not applying to native Americans? Because yes that happened in the argument/briefing. and that is/was generally accepted as the intent of the 14th https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Citizenship_Act
You confuse doing somethings with doing enough. But continue to be mopey and support the modern day Democratic party that did somethings under Biden
I think you're confusing affinity for the party with seeing what was plainly obvious. If you think they didn't do enough, which I'm not really even arguing that, you think Trump did do enough. I mean like what are those things? I would like to see the Democrats learn the right lessons. If you think this past election was won or lost on supporting the working class, that doesn't really jibe with anything I witnessed. I feel like it's an overly optimistic take to think if they just said this or that it would have overcome what swept through Western world incumbent parties then I think that's the wrong lesson. It doesn't square to hear how uninformed the median voter is and simultaneously think this niche thing or that one would have turned the tide
Do you even understand the original argument that was presented. IDK if this is your Trump Derangement Syndrome kicking and having to make everything a comparison, but that wasn't ever done. It wasn't a Dems vs Trump, Dem Policy vs GOP Policy debate. It was an introspective look Again, the video is broader than this single past election. It's like you're making something up to argue.....oh wait that's what you want to accuse me of. Funny
Next election cycle is the only hope and I imagine running against Trump and his policies will help Dems have a good turn out. In the meantime it will be up to the few non Trump appointed Judges to block things but that won’t be many. They clearly know from last time that is the only obstacle right now if any.
Our elections are either or. It's always dem vs GOP. It's always comparative. If Dems didn't do enough (your words) then someone else did.
Okay, even when redirected to the core point you're missing you still want to continue to miss. Enjoy your weekend
You said she should join a PAC and take money. I didn't see that in the video either. Maybe you should rewatch it
What point did I make about taking money from a PAC or that that would be good in any way? Or were you just making up stuff to argue against while avoiding the substance of my post (which you could still address!)?
I love watching Democrats just lay down and capitulate to the never-ending onslaught of fascism https://bsky.app/profile/jonathancohn.bsky.social/post/3lgkxoq4wnc22
We've had 40 years of trickle down economics shoveling money to the rich. The wealth gap has expanded greatly and thing have gotten worse for the working class. All of that was done by the right but they've outmaneuvered the left on it. Most Americans still view the left as the elites and the right as for the working class. Dem messaging and delivery just hasn't hit as well. The gop has turned into reality TV and a lot of people enjoy watching it. The right blames immigrants for why Johnny lives in a trailer and can't afford diapers and the left just cant get through to Johnny that it's the right, not immigrants, that have caused it. In today's climate, idk how anyone from the left is going to really break through and wake people up. I almost think it'll have to be someone already famous for something out of politics. Politics is theater now. I'm not joking at all when I say there Johnny would listen to The Rock before AOC. We're so polarized and people have built in biases that it's almost impossible for the left to break through when Johnny hears Joe Rogan a couple times a week. The right are vile people but they are very good at politics. Drms do great things but are terrible at the theater side of it so Johnny doesn't know.
Centrism Dems have had a hand of going along with it and it is to AOC's point that the main focus has been essentially the people on this board. Our overwhelming support support mostly proves it. No one doubts the Dems haven't done some things, but clearly it isn't enough and we continue to watch people under 30 to be massively worse off for the first time in our history than their parents.
Dems have been vastly better for those under 30 but Pubs own messaging to those under 30 so it doesn't matter. It's not who has done what, it's all about messaging and media at this point. The Dems gotta figure it out. It's not policies now.
They haven't done enough and willfully have been apart of the machine that is continues down the track we're on. Apparently this board is full on "Dems are fine, "it's just messaging" which is wild to me
Or we will set up camps in the desert to concentrate them. But they definitely won’t be concentration camps. Nope, totally different.
Let me put it this way, if Dems have been a 6/10 for Johnny while Pubs have been a 0/10 and he's still voting Pubs, it's not about policies anymore. Large groups in this country vote against their own best interest. "Do more" doesnt mean anything when the messaging sucks and those groups don't know who is doing what to help and harm them. Dems coild be 10/10 and Johnny still votes Pubs bc Rogan and Fox News told him it was really the immigrants.
I am just going to trust that AOC has a better handle on the attitudes of the other Democrats in Congress than anyone that posts on this board. You can say Biden did X or Biden did Y, but what he didn’t do was reorient the party away from the donor class. He was more obsessed with restoring norms and the old order than he was with labeling the real threat and arming America against it. Rather than take advantage of a broken system to fight for the record number of Americans that voted for him, he let a transparently corrupt Supreme Court overrule him at every turn.
As a social experiment it would be fascinating to see a candidate run as a D on a completely batshit conservative platform against a R on a progressive one and see how they performed in a red area.
The last election was about the economic recovery to covid, or to be more accurate, the perceived recovery because we've had by far the best one in the western world. But that seems to even further point to doing or saying more things to benefit workers doesn't necessarily help win elections. I'm not saying they shouldn't do thsoe things for workers despite the current conversation but they clearly don't matter. This is painfully obvious to anyone paying attention I feel like. I don't think there's any messaging in the world that's going to fix it. It's why I am and have said as much, extremely black pilled by the 2024 election. Maybe it will get better but thinking this thing or that thing will work when all these others didn't is like some weird kind of cope some posters have.
She's a person like you and me and can have existing biases. 42 voted for her specific example but she focused on the 7 (only 6 were democrats) to make a point. That seems disingenuous. To be even more clear, she is my hope for the future and the dream is she is one day is our president but her example seems like playing fast and loose with the numbers.
Of course it does. We have two options so everything is a comparison. Again, Dems could cut taxes to $0 on anyone under $250k and it doesn't matter if their messaging is outflanked by the right on it. Dems have a better platform, making it better doesnt help if the messaging isn't better. That's not to say they shouldn't still do more, but reaching people has to be the top priority.
I don’t think it’s fair to say that no messaging will work just because what Dems have tried so far clearly hasn’t. Seemed like the “calling them weird” thing kinda worked until Dems abandoned it. To be fair, I have no idea what that messaging should be, so I’m just going off schadenfreude for the next 4 years and rooting for anybody who sucks to get hurt first.
Maybe there is messing that would work but I'm about as skeptical as you can be without being 100% sure
This isn’t true. Most Americans think both parties are the party of the elites. Southerners are the only dummies fully convinced Republicans are the party of the people.
Voting for Trump doesn’t mean you’re convinced Republicans care about the people. I have moved to one of the worst southern states for family reasons. The conversations I’ve had with Trump voters here are very different than the ones I had with them in Michigan.
My partner over here trying to prepare her public health lesson plans (she's teaching some undergrad courses in global health) given how this administration completely invalidated all of her previously prepared materials and textbooks in 4 days.
