I’m not arguing in favor of the democrats. I’m arguing that if we find pleasure in pointing out Latinos that FA and are FO why do we have to sugar coat the others who also FA? There were plenty of of Muslim voters gloating about voting for Trump. There are members of the LGBTQ who did as well. I’m simply asking why it’s cool to say “lol fuck those Cubans or Venezuelans” but we don’t do that for other groups. I’ve constantly said fuck the democrats. I truly believe they don’t care. Fuck the democrats but they by far are a better option than the gop.
What playbook do we think Trump will use to try to stay in power past 4 years? Obviously a 28th amendment isn’t passing to repeal the 22nd.
the one I want to see actually litigated, is that the 22nd doesn’t actually apply to non-consecutive terms
The text is very clear. No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once. But this Article shall not apply to any person holding the office of President when this Article was proposed by the Congress, and shall not prevent any person who may be holding the office of President, or acting as President, during the term within which this Article becomes operative from holding the office of President or acting as President during the remainder of such term. Two elected terms is two terms, there’s no language for an exception to be made if they were non-consecutive.
Oh it’s quite clear, that doesn’t mean the theory hasn’t by floated but his people. I think it would be a highly entertaining argument
They just have to run a campaign with two people who vow to resign immediately and have Trump named Speaker of the House
I keep seeing people say this because they think Obama would a.) run and b.) beat Trump. I think those are both doubtful (I don't think he can be arsed to run and I don't think he can beat Trump), and plus, Obama isn't what we need.
I could see Trump signing an executive order nullifying the 22nd and congressional dems sending out fundraising emails in response.
It’s such a modern amendment that every thing stated in the passage of the amendment should be self evident if they try to litigate that at the Supreme Court
The job doesn’t seem to age him like it has other presidents, probably because it’s not stressful for him because he doesn’t give a shit about anything besides enriching himself and those around him.
Yes but he is way older now than he was in 2016, it’s readily apparent in his debate and rally performance
He’s going to make Biden look like Cicero by the end of this term It’ll reach a point where he just has pics taken of him every day showing he’s alive instead of letting him do any speaking
regardless of laws and how fucking old dude already is, I'd probably still drop like $100 on Trump being on the ballot in '28. Laws haven't applied to him in a while, and normal human aging is also taking its sweet ass time
Chicken shit Dems and the media: look I’m not going to hammer Trump for age, that’s not what we do in polite society. But I do have to question some of his decisions!
Imagine thinking that the wording of the amendment matters. The Supreme Court has ruled that the president is above the law, they will rule Trump’s way no matter what the amendment says.
If laws matter, then the Speaker route also wouldn’t work. But laws don’t actually matter so whatever. Why not?
I think the law says that the person has to be eligible to hold the office of the presidency to assume those powers. Otherwise they skipped in the line of succession.
well you don’t actually need to have him be elected speaker, you just have to have the Vice President resign and the president name Trump VP before resigning. The Presidential Succession Act doesn’t supersede the 25th Amendment.
One thing about Trump that I haven't seen in my lifetime is that people just project what they personally want onto him He could literally say the opposite and they don't care
He could murder their families in front of them and they’d believe he had a good reason for doing it. These people are just zombies, they’re not even human anymore
Applies only to the election of the Vice President but if you wanted to be safe, you’d simply amend the Presidential Succession Act. There’s no constitutional bar to require that someone ineligible to be elected because of being twice elected before be skipped in the circumstance of succession.
