So I'm still confused from today, is Pelosi able to actually cancel the SOTU address? Does she have the power? Earlier this morning on NPR that what it sounded like.
So interdasting the Mueller mandate has also been broadly looking at cooperation between the trump team and Russia (oh now like 4 other states) and not *just* trump. So trump is at best a POS torpedoing an investigation to stop traitors or at worst that and a traitor himself. Great work, Rudy!
There must be a resolution passed by the House to invite the president to the SOTU. As Speaker, Pelosi has the privilege of not putting the resolution forward to vote, which essentially denies an invitation. Now Trump could just show up anyway and try to give his speech, but the House is Pelosi's and there is decorum that must be upheld. Since much of this administration is uncharted territory anyway, I wouldn't put it past Donnie to be a bull in a china shop and shout his speech over the din of Pelosi's gavel. I think this is even more likely because of Pelosi being a woman. Her move today is a huge shot at Donnie's ego.
Sure, that is one of the sergeant-at-arms' responsibilities, but I'd be extremely surprised if the president were ever physically removed. A member of Congress? Sure. POTUS, though, is quite another matter.
So even if he wasn't invited because she never put forth a resolution, there would still be a SOTU address? Whatever happens is going to be a shitshow, because you piss hands wants his face on that fucking TV.
Would there still be an attempt at a SOTU? I don't know. Could there be an attempt, though? I certainly wouldn't put it past Donnie. Again, so much of this is uncharted territory. If Pelosi's tactic holds up, what would surprise me the least is Trump giving a SOTU-like speech on Fox.
There would not be SOTU. That's an address to the joint session of congress. He'd probably have a rally for his idiot followers on fox news.
shoutout to the other west wing watchers (and re-watchers) who knew thanks to aaron sorkin that presidents have to pay for their own food and that the speaker of the house invites the president to congress for a sotu. also, i know this was linked and briefly discussed already, so consider this a PM RT: i think this thread is super apt. it touches on women in politics, race in politics, the gop's conscious (and unconscious?) racism, how AOC is dwarfing all others (and implies how that's problematic), why she's successful in getting attention, etc. I think it's a really good thread and worth reading if you haven't.
the wall costs money to build the gift shop brings in revenue that is the most voodoo economic shit of all time
I was told by people on here the handling of the hurricane in Puerto Rico by Trump was no different than if Obama was president
Every time I think I have found the Trumpiest moment of this presidency, they find another way to impress/depress me
