It's always the same playbook. Using 'corrupting children' as a reason against social change. All the false stereotypes about black people will hurt kids if theyre given equality, or the jews are indoctrinating children, or gay people. Or immigrants will ruin the culture for our children. It's an effective tactic that makes rhetorical sense to casuals and will scare them because everyone cares about the kids

It seems more similar to how Florida has passed so much anti-trans legislation that's basically meant to have a chilling effect on medical providers. Even though it seems flatly unconstitutional no one wants to risk being sued so the effect is achieved.

100% but also they're eventually going to start bringing the hammer down (criminal charges, maybe murder charges) on health care providers for providing reproductive health care or women for receiving it. I say this because they're creating the legal framework to do so. They're also very deliberately inserting shitloads of fundamentalist Christian dogma into their decisions, knowing full well this shit is going to end up in front of higher courts. Even if it's just civil penalties -- endless wrongful death suits from fertilized eggs that aren't viable or something -- it's not necessarily the doctors who don't want to risk it... it's their insurance carriers.
