All the more reason to be more clear and take that argument away imo. They will argue anti Semitism in bad faith. Make that as difficult as possible.
Think it has been mentioned itt before but Israel is one of the reasons that I hope Sanders does run. He is probably the only one of all the candidates currently running has actually called them out for their illegal settlements and I'd love to see them try to smear him as antisemitic.
Good thing the browns are super dumb Chimps use branch as ladder to escape Belfast zoo enclosure Breakout is second in recent weeks after runaway red panda found in a nearby garden Ben Quinn Chimps breaking out of Belfast zoo enclosure caught on camera - video Chimpanzees have used a branch to escape from their enclosure at Belfast zoo in the second breach by animals in recent weeks. Spoiler They took advantage of damage caused by stormy weather to stage a breakout, which visitors caught on film. It comes after a red panda cub called Amber was found in a garden less than a mile from the zoo after it escaped from its enclosure last month. The latest bid for freedom was made by chimps who used a branch as a makeshift ladder and scaled high walls surrounding their pen on Saturday. Visitors described seeing one of the escapees emerge from the bushes on to a path while others were sitting on top of their enclosure wall. In footage posted on social media, a child can be heard exclaiming: “Don’t escape, you bad little gorilla.” Zookeeper Alyn Cairns said trees in the enclosure had been weakened by the storms, allowing the chimps to break them and use them as a ladder to escape. He told the BBC: “They’re intelligent primates and know they’re not supposed to be out of their enclosure, so got back in themselves.” Danielle Monaghan, who was at the zoo with her two children, partner and his young nieces, expressed concern about safety. “I was petrified, obviously, having the kids, and I tried not to show fear but inside I was a bit like: what happens if it attacks us or tries to take the kids or runs over?” she told the BBC. “But we just had to stay calm. It may have been a different story if it had been aggressive but it absolutely wasn’t. It made us feel at ease. We just walked past it and it was absolutely grand.” She said they were in disbelief when they saw one of the chimpanzees start to climb out of its enclosure and ended up a foot away when they walked over to take a closer look. A spokesperson for Belfast city council, which runs the zoo, said one chimpanzee left its enclosure for a short time. “Zookeepers were present as the chimpanzee quickly returned from an adjacent wall to the rest of the group inside the enclosure,” it said.
Why do Democrats continually allow themselves to be bludgeoned with this sort of bullshit? It's kind of infuriating.
Because they are on the side of Israel? Omar had no choice but to apologize, or she would have been censured and removed from all of her committee assignments.
Or they could have just ignored it and moved on and it wouldn't have mattered because they control the House
It's like weird glue traps that R's put down that D's can't help but get stuck in. But like, very hypocritical and surface level glue traps.
Reminder that they didn't censure Steve King because they didn't wanna upset their Republican colleagues.
The bizarre thing is that they think by doing this sort of public sacrifice, the next time Steve King says that whites are the smartest race something might actually happen
Are you missing the part where the leadership is against her comments? They control the house and they pressured her and would have likely removed her from the foreign affairs committee
You can quote people individually and respond to them fyi and you don't have to add in that passive-aggressive bullshit like "it's weird" at the end too
from dk, getting back on track to the intent of this thread The MAGA Agenda? Naked Eliminationism! Spoiler The people who love Donald Trump have no secret agendas. They express their hatreds openly. Their intentions could not be clearer. Those whom they hate defines them. Their aspirations are nakedly eliminationist. They wish to live free from contact with or influence of those whom they hate. Eliminationism has always occupied a niche in the American political landscape. But Trump and his signature message have piled on the fuel and leaned hard on the bellows, to inflame America’s racist, misogynistic homophobes, into a white hot problem for our national politics. The politics of elimination — embodied in nativism, white supremacism, and similar authoritarian ideologies -have long been part of the American political fabric, but in recent years have come bubbling forward in the wave of hate-crime incidents associated with the 2016 election, as well as mass killings such as those in Charleston, S.C., and at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando. Historically fueled by dehumanizing rhetoric and belief systems, eliminationism has become a common theme in rising right-wing ideologies around the globe, spread especially through the phenomenon of online radicalization, both among Islamist radicals and alt-right white nationalists White male voters who aren’t college educated really love Trump a lot, +29. They are an estimated 22% of the electorate — https://civiqs.com/results/trump_fa...n=Non-College Graduate&race=White&gender=Male Even without the gender filter, Trump’s support remains +13 among non-college white voters. These voters abound in America’s vast rural environs and are easily found in myriad suburbs. They abide in neighborhoods where the faces they see are reliably pale; if English is spoken with an accent, it’s a twang or drawl. Trump’s racist, anti-immigrant ranting offers these voters one of Trump’s most popular features, even though it’s a bug for the rest of us. They are the nativists who like English only laws, they are white separatists who prefer to live in segregated neighborhoods, they are alt-right online rabble rousers, they are homophobes who claim the right to exclude LGBTQ people from their business life, they are the superstitious boobs who believe God is a slot machine and science is a con game, they are those who approve of the rabid antiabortion crusaders who want to cry havoc. Altogether they are a minority of American voters, but nevertheless a significant political coalition, a political axis of evil, or, if you will, the modern GOP. If Trump’s evil coalition remade America to their liking, AKA “great again”, people of color and women would occupy places more like those subservient roles to which America relegated them from the founding of the Republic until Suffragettes and the Civil Rights Movement kick started generations of incremental improvements in the status of women and minorities that still remains far from sufficient, much less complete. Gender nonconformance would be penalized. Voting would be restricted to as few people as possible. Immigrants without legal status would be deported. Barriers to immigration would rise. America would turn our back on the World’s refugees, often families fleeing turmoil for which the USA bears some responsibility. Reproductive freedom would largely vanish. Domestic violence laws would be relaxed. Trump and the evil coalition supporting him have already taken unprecedented steps to eliminate political opposition to Trump for the 2020 GOP nomination. Trump used the State of the Union to condemn both investigation and resistance, i.e legislative oversight and political opposition. This suggests that, in months to come, Trump will accelerate his creative destruction of the institution of the Presidency, pushing for even deeper divisions among Americans. ‘Til the 2020 Election date, Expect worse and harsher treatment, Of the people that Trump lovers love to hate, And would very much like to eliminate, If we don’t get Trump first with impeachment.
I dont get the passive aggressive comment but whatever. Again, what is the harm in her clarifying her stance, so it wont get misconstrued anymore?
look I don't like him, but he can add "it's weird" if he wants to Mr. Burrito Breath Spoiler ok, I lied. I like him ok. Like you too
The dem leadership calling it anit-semitic is 100% bullshit and why, as has been pointed out itt, Rs and people like Gabrielle Debinski (who portray themselves as kind of liberal despite working for ALAN FUCKING DERSHOWITZ) lay traps by equating any sort of Israel criticism as attacking Jews.
FYI, I’m not sure if this is widely known (I was unaware before doing additional reading), but George Nader is a convicted pedophile. In addition to being the middle man for numerous shady foreign contacts and the Trump campaign. Why drain the swamp when you can bring in professional swamp monsters to show the amateurs how it is done.
Because the clarification is irrelevant to the people making the criticism, but even if it wasn't, it's a concession that somehow her remark and Steve King's remarks are similar enough that she needs to make sure everyone knows that she's not like Steve King. And that's absurd iyam
from DK GOP congressman forgets he's no longer in charge, throws tantrum after getting checked Friendly reminder: Democrats, led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, run the House. Sadly, GOP congressmen are having a hard time adjusting to this new reality. Spoiler The latest GOP humiliation comes courtesy of rightwing misogynist and Georgia Republican Doug Collins. Like many of his ilk, he has a particular disdain for women in authority. It really came across in his tirade against Attorney General Loretta Lynch for not prosecuting Hillary over her emails. For the record, Collins, the worst military chaplain ever, has no problem with Trump’s sexual misconduct, and voted against the Violence Against Women Act. Collins loves hearing himself talk—so much so, he often posts his rambling diatribes on YouTube. He also seems to love cutting people off, which he tried to do to California Democrat Karen Bass while she questioned Acting AG Matthew Whitaker on Friday. Collins, like many of his GOP colleagues, has never experienced minority status, and clearly forgot who was in charge. Hissy fit is right. The GOP politicians aren’t just kowtowing to Trump, they are becoming him. The good news is that after Trump threw his temper tantrum over the wall, which is never getting built, the entire GOP took a savage beating in the polls. Simultaneously, Speaker Pelosi has been strengthened by Republican hissy fits. Unfortunately, things are only going to get worse for the GOP from here. The House Rethuglicans are going to have to learn to live without having any power, and that’s only if they are lucky enough to hold onto their seats in the first place. For many conservatives, this is a bridge too far. The stampede for the exits has already begun. Rob Woodall, who won Georgia’s 7th district by less than 500 votes, just announced he was retiring well ahead of the 2020 election. He said it was because he missed his family. Those who barely survived 2018 are facing a full-scale slaughter, so expect more people to suddenly discover they have families with whom they want to spend time. Folks like Doug Collins may have districts that are too gerrymandered for them to truly face voter wrath, but that’s okay. We need his stupidity to remind Americans why the GOP shouldn’t ever be returned to power---and to give us a good laugh every now and then.
IMO there are people who, no matter what will enter that conflation on bad faith and compare the two. Im not interested in those people. However, there are shit load of people in this country who have a very rudimentary understanding of Israel, their government and it's people. It sure as hell doesn't hurt to clarify. It can only help, imo, start raising awareness of the difference between the Israeli government, it's people and jews in general.
But she apologized. How does that look to the person that doesn't know much about the context of this?
I get what you're saying but the apology implies wrongdoing on her part when all she did was call a lobby for what it is . Next time someone has even a mild criticism of Israel they will likely keep it to themselves because they will think twice because of the very public condemnation from leadership. The narrative is Illhan Omar apologizes for antisemetic comment. Even NPR ran a story calling her comments antisemitic without even mentioning what the actual comments are. So if the goal is to educate/raise awareness I think today had an opposite effect.
Her apology explained how she understands her comments could be taken out of context fo what she meant, and made sure to define her point about money in American politics vs the anti semitic jews/money/control shit. Hopefully that provokes a little though in those laymen.
it won't for most, but will for a small minority A third of Americans say blackface is ok for Halloween costumes cnn.com/2019/0...
