This is a thread for venting about Trump and I get that, but what would you do in Kelly's shoes? If you think Trump is dangerous and impulsive then someone has to babysit Trump, and to do it effectively, you'd have to let the vast majority of his BS roll off your back. You couldn't be constantly arguing with him and contradicting everything he said publically or you'd either get fired or you'd raise tensions to the point he constantly defied you just because he could, and you'd become ineffective. Kelly is an extreme right wing crackpot and he joined the Trump administration in support of Trumps stated agenda, but I think at this point Kelly is staying more out of fear of what would replace him or happen without him there than any desire to accomplish any of Trumps goals.

I can't pretend to be Kelly. I never served this country by joining the military because I didn't want to go to Iraq during the surge. But Kelly is supporting a president that is clearly unfit. There are stories of Kelly and Trump getting into shouting matches behind closed doors. If Kelly were to leave and publicly describe Trump's private behavior, it would force a decision by the congress. As comforting as the idea is that Trump's cabinet will contain him, there is little evidence that they have done so.
Oh absolutely nothing. But if Kelly, Mattis, or a group of Trump's cabinet came out and said that Trump was incapable of being president, it would force the issue.
This is a wildly optimistic assumption, but if a member of Trump's cabinet, like Kelly or Mattis, resigned and described Trump's thought process and behavior publicly, the alarm bells would actually be heard by republicans in the Senate. I disagree wildly with Trump's views, but he is too demented to actually execute those aims. He is in the throws of dementia. He didn't remember the name of La David Johnson while calling his widow not because he is cruel monsters, but because his brain has gone bad.
True. My mom hates Trump with a passion. But she identities as a republican and defends Coker to the hilt because he said some sentences describing how reckless Trump is. My mom is the white moderate democrats dream about. She agrees with me on policy, but she is a 60+ year old college educated white woman, who insists that Trump isn't a republican. She won't vote democrat on policy.

Post 9/11 GI Bill doesn’t cover the costs of college if you have more than one kid. The daughter of one of my best friends is going to Alabama with tuition and fees waived due to his service disability. His GI bill Is being used to cover room and board, books, etc. I’m pretty sure there is a max benefit so his second oldest kid will use most of the rest of it on top of a couple small loans.

i just watched john kelly's address to the press. in a void, it's about as straightforward an account as you're going to get about what happens after an american soldier is killed in combat. in context, it was one of the more cynical speeches that i can remember. all of this notwithstanding the embarrassment that is someone like john kelly having to hand-wave about what the president was "trying to say"
