I don't know how new ideas matter. I don't vote for party ideas, I vote for candidates. I respect Will Hurd's positions and have been a Justin Amash fan before he left the party.
I say we let Futureman acclimate before everybody attacks his for the 1-2 things they don't personally agree with. In this case perfect is the enemy of good.
It happened fast. She's been gaslighted and when I would point out inconsistencies in Evangelical beliefs and Republican policies (treatment of migrant children) she says that she never knows what is true because there are so many lies in the media.
This shit is a problem. It allows corrupt politicians to cover up major issues, scandals, and fucked up policy by proclaiming fake news. Trump called everything reported by WaPo and NYT fake news, then the mueller report corroborated the reporting. We live in a sad world full of gullible, mainly old, ppl
My parents are head burying Republicans. They're smart enough to know that if they really paid attention to what the party they vote for is doing they wouldn't like it. But change is scary so they just tune everything out and then vote R
Ya, I’d never stop talking politics if my parents were trump morons. I love them too much to be wrong and on the wrong side if history
Just got this text from Liz PLAN ALERT: No cages. No Muslim Ban. Protect Dreamers. Hold Trump-era abusers accountable. For the most part I came here for 3 reasons: - I really enjoy hearing peoples opinions and engaging in discourse with people even if we disagree - Most of my friends here are MAGA Trumpers and generally just informed by Fox News talking points so I avoid talking politics like the plague - My wife and I agree on everything but she's generally uninformed about what's going on and doesn't care to talk politics
I need to take pictures of this bonkers survey the Republican party sent my parents. They are never voting R again but I'm filling that out for them like they love everything going on. They are using it to help plan their ad buys and shit so want to make them feel more comfortable than they should where my parents live.
Mine aren't Trump morons per se. I know it's a distinction that makes no real difference but they're more like fans of the Republican football team who will keep supporting it even if they don't necessarily love the coach. It's really dumb. The R is a part of their identity to the point that nothing else really matters
I told my mom a few months ago she will die on the wrong side of history. Her response? "I don't want to live in the future the left is going to create." While that is obviously ignorant and sad I do believe every generation feels that way about the generation before it so its not a strictly modern thought.
This is something Russa is really good at doing, I don't remember if I read it or a podcast but it talked about how this is a strategy - they confuse the truth so much that people really do question what is true, and what is not. It then makes it easier for them to just disregard the truth they don't like and accept what they want. I butchered the shit out of that paraphrasing, but you get the gist - it's a thing, and they're doing it on purpose.
Seems like the census issue is dodged for now. My first thought is they’d try to tie districting to non census data, but that would take a constitutional amendment.
Be warned, user Futureman , this thread will make you very angry. Not at the people involved within the thread, but the stupid shit Mr. T and Co area always saying/up to.
no you’ll get angry at the people a lot such as bettercall “i fucking love locking kids up in concentration camps” saul
imo they'll keep dancing around it and escalating the ICE raids to keep the non-response rate up among immigrant communities won't be as big an impact as the census question but they probably think they can do some damage that way
I'm talking about regarding the non response rate. Yes it will do substantial damage but not to the extent of the census question. The estimates for non response by census experts was nearly ten million with the question iirc.
Hi independent here. Fuck trump. This is a pretty good thread for info about all the shitty things the admin/GOP/society is up to. They also shit on shitty Dems. Don’t talk shit about Warren or AOC as this thread is pretty in love with everything about them atm, but otherwise most conversation, even about liberal politics/conversation is very even and open. Thread leans strongly left of what would be considered mainstream Dem platform... but considering that’s where Biden and Pelosi live I wouldn’t want to be there either.
There are a metric ton of us in here that were forced into a devoutly Christian lifestyle as young pre-TMB whipper snappers. I think the unifying factor is that many of us were raised to believe “the left” was some evil entity as a result, so there was a hesitation to stop supporting Republicans as it’s all we’ve ever known. I remember a mock election in my elementary school in 1996 (I was in 2nd grade) where I proudly cast my ballot for Bob Dole, reasoning that he had an R by his name. Thanks, mom and dad. I went off to college and voted for John McCain and Mitt Romney. I can’t justify either vote. I still had my head in the sand as a 23 year old. But that was about 200 years ago and I’ve made about as big of a swing as anyone can make. Thankfully I voted for the loser and didn’t affect the outcome of either of those presidential elections and nothing I could’ve done as a Democrat in Escambia County would’ve ever mattered in a congressional race. TL;DR Welcome to the resistance. We will kill what last little bit of conservative voter you have in you. Fuck the GOP forever and ever.
I’m lucky. I don’t have any republican family members that I can think of except for my idiotic mother in law, who is dumber than a box of rocks.
I was always pretty left leaning growing up but my freshman year college roommate had a major hard on for bobby fucking jindal and said he and paul ryan were the future of the country, so I was basically a marxist by the time I was 19
Whatever ones opinion about AOC might be, at least she cares deeply about a variety of issues, isn’t some silver spoon Jabroni, and she is prepared to take on Rs aggressively, unlike current leadership
You will get a lot of reply on stuff, but it's mostly informative. People have issues when others bring information that doesnt adhere to their notions, and those are the people who have issues here.
I heard my FIL say “she’s going to be speaker of the house one day” last weekend and it was just so refreshing compared to my dad who refers to her as Ocrazyo-Cortez because god dammit, my dad thinks Ben Garrison is hilarious.
Yes I did the same shit when I was young but for even dumber reasons. I wanted to piss off my parents who have always been extremely progressively liberal. I thought of myself as the Alex P Keaton of the family. So dumb.
