I can't think of one piece of mail I get that I can't receive as email, and raise prices too much and FedEx and UPS have services where you get your packages on your time. Go ahead and try and privatize it, there are already better alternatives.

I despise Trump, but he is right about the USPS. They aren't structured to deliver packages cost effectively and charge way less for package deliveries than their marginal cost. The only thing maintaining it from being a giant sinkhole of cash is the first class mail delivery. They need to raise package delivery prices.

Sure, that might work for you but what about the millions of Americans that don't have easy access to a computer? All the ones that can't afford internet? Just Fuck 'em I guess? UPS and FedEx also charge extra for deliveries to about 60% of the zip codes in the US. That's not going to work.

You don't need to subsidize it. At an $800 million controllable loss in 2017, almost entirely attributable to their idiotic package pricing, you can solve the vast majority of their issues with modest package price increases. The fastest growing segment of all of USPS, FedEx, and UPS package delivery is business to consumer eCommerce delivery. It is dwarfing everything else. The USPS prices their package delivery below marginal costs. I believe I read their delivery charge to Amazon is $2 / package and their marginal cost is ~$3. In their fastest growing segment, they are losing money hand over fist. And that business isn't incrementally scalable because they don't have the infrastructure to make it scalable. Additionally, we aren't subsidizing the USPS to get great delivery. We are subsidizing Amazon, UPS, and FedEx. Those 3 organizations extensively utilize USPS for residential package delivery when it doesn't make financial sense for them to deliver a package through their standard network. If package delivery continues to be massively mispriced, the most affordable postage delivery you speak of will have to rise.
