One fantasy these militia types love is that large numbers of the current U.S. military would defect to whatever the new Confederacy might look like. That was realistic in 1861 but seems like a joke now
Joe Biden criticizes President Trump for playing two rounds of golf for the first time since the Covid crisis began three months ago. Does Uncle Joe actually think this is the first time a POTUS has taken a break from the pressures of the office during a crisis? Joe has probably forgotten a President named Franklin Delano Roosevelt who served during the depression and WW ll. Here are some of his vacations: June 1933- fishing trip to Campobello Island. Only 3 months after he was sworn in and millions of his fellow Americans suffering from the depression , he is fishing? April 1934- fishing trip to the Bahamas July 1934- 3 months later he vacations in Hawaii, so while Americans are suffering through the Great Depression he takes 3 fishing trips in the first 16 months in office March 1936- another trip to the Bahamas, August 1938- vacations in the Caribbean August 1939 - fishing trip to Newfoundland In addition from 36-45 he spent numerous days on the Presidential Yacht Potomac cruising up and down the Potomac. May 1944- while preparations for D-Day are going on FDR was vacationing in South Carolina at Bernard Baruch's plantation. Among his companions was his long time mistress Lucy Mercer Rutherford. And the President took 16 trips to Warm Springs, Ga, to take to the waters to help with his polio. Each trip was usually for 2-3 weeks. His final trip in April 1945 was when he died with Lucy Rutherford in attendance. There is no comparison to the trips taken by FDR and modern day Presidents . The transportation and communication advancements of today dwarf those in the 30s and 40s. The POTUS today is always in the office. But every President of any time needs some down time to face the emergencies they encounter in office. I mean in no way to disparage FDR for his frequent vacations while in office. IMHO he is the greatest Commander in Chief we ever had and did a marvelous job of winning WW ll. Only Sir Winston Churchill was a more important figure of the 20th century.
It's hilarious to me that someone wasted their time to put that list together to defend Donald fucking trump. I mean how do these assholes exist? Was telling a friend over the weekend that I thought the next hard right brainwashing would come from some charismatic gifted speaker that provided cover for shady shit behind the scenes. Never would I have thought an obvious dumbass would rise to power being wrong about everything and saying the quiet parts out loud. Boy, do I feel like a horse's ass.
“We cannot, and we will not, tell them that they must surrender, merely because of present inability to pay for the weapons which we know they must have.” "Presidents have been trying unsuccessfully for years to get Germany and other rich NATO Nations to pay more toward their protection from Russia. They pay only a fraction of their cost. The U.S. pays tens of Billions of Dollars too much to subsidize Europe, and loses Big on Trade!"
Yeah it is crazy. I am convinced my local news site posts these opinion pieces from bots without a single effort to check anything. Need to stop visiting it.
I like this FDR-Trump quote thing a little too much but I don't know enough FDR quotes offhand to make it keep working
I would actually like to hear you out here. What was your general point in that post about the timeline of Roosevelt's vacations? That they both vacationed excessively?
There was that one time Churchill and Stalin wanted to meet at Yalta, but FDR demanded they meet in Warm Springs instead because many people, most of them being big strong men who never cried before, came to FDR with tears in their eyes and said, “Sir, Warm Springs is the most beautiful resort that has existed, maybe ever.” And then the conference was hosted in Georgia by one of his failsons.
Fwiw this is one of my favorite Trump quotes because it implies that Germany needs to become more militarized. I have noticed a trend that when Germany has a big military, they tend to start invading their neighbors.
They then went on a boar hunt and the bonding experience convinced Stalin to not occupy Eastern Europe with the Red Army as a prize of war (I had to google whether Georgia had wild boars before this post)
List of traitorous actions by Trump: Spoiler Call pandemic a hoax for a month Say you want people to stay on ship to keep numbers low First CDC test fails and, even when re-released, practically no one can get tested for over a month Lies for a month about CDC test being rolled out to labs Refuses to enact Def Prod Act weeks ago when it would have helped healthcare workers Even today, refuses to compel manufacturers to make equipment and ppe gear for healthcare workers Bidding wars are going on b/w states, and he says it great to see private industry stepping forward Begins push to quell shelter in place efforts by emphasizing arbitrary 15 day challenge Basically admits that he's not listening to medical professionals in the WH (deaths are doubling every 2.5 days now) 3/25 Continues to refuse to invoke DPA EXCLUSIVE: White House national security officials prepared a “pandemic playbook” — a step-by-step guide to ensure testing, check on workers’ equipment, even consider the Defense Production Act. The Trump administration ignored it. 3/26 Admits that he's not invoking DPA as is his responsibility in times of emergency. He is not compelling manfacturers to produce vents/respirators/masks/gloves/gowns/etc. NY needs 30,000 vents. In light of that => Via @SangerNYT, @KannoYoungs and me, the White House was all set yesterday to announce a deal on accelerated ventilator production w GM. Then suddenly, the deal was off. Among the concerns said to have been cited by the Colonel at FEMA working on it? …the pricetag and whether they would end up with an expensive surplus of ventilators. The pricetag would be just over $1 bill for duration of deal. The govt just forged a $2 trill spending deal. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/26/us/politics/coronavirus-ventilators-trump.html Trump: "I don't believe you need 40,000 or 30,000 ventilators. You know, you go into major hospitals sometimes and they'll have two ventilators. Now all of a sudden they're saying, 'Can we order 30,000 ventilators?'" Trump says he's still weighing a disaster declaration for Michigan and attacks Gov. Whitmer: "She is a new governor and it's not been pleasant" (MI has 2800 cases and 60 deaths and is one of states with the fastest growth in cases) Bloomberg @business The Trump campaign told TV stations they could lose their licenses for airing an ad criticizing the president’s actions in the coronavirus crisis Ryan Struyk ✔@ryanstruyk The President says he has told the leader of the federal government's coronavirus response not to call the governors of Michigan and Washington state, two of the biggest hotspots in the country, because they are "not appreciative." 3/27 Yamiche Alcindor ✔@Yamiche Incredible moment.@jonkarl asks multiple times: Will everyone who needs a ventilator have one? President Trump: “Don’t be a cutie pie. Everyone who needs one?" 3/31 Still not invoking DPA Sending medical supplies to states with an eye toward electoral politics Refuses to answer pleas from certain Govs. to send more vents Kyle Griffin @kylegriffin1 Trump: "We have some hospitals in some states that think they need ventilators and we don't think they do." 4/2 Trump on Thursday made the belated decision to invoke wartime powers to speed production of the lifesaving breathing machines by streamlining supply chains -- but the bulk of deliveries will not arrive until June. That will be too late for states such as New York, Michigan and Massachusetts that are racing to the apex of their pandemics and have been battling to buy ventilators on the open market -- often competing against one another, the federal government and foreign nations. https://edition.cnn.com/2020/04/02/politics/donald-trump-ventilators-leadership-coronavirus/index.html?utm_source=twCNN&utm_content=2020-04-03T06:25:05&utm_medium=social&utm_term=link 4/3 DETROIT FREE PRESS: "Trump hasn't ordered *any* ventilators from GM, despite saying he was using wartime powers to force production" Two months before the novel coronavirus is thought to have begun its deadly advance in Wuhan, China, the Trump administration ended a $200-million pandemic early-warning program aimed at training scientists in China and other countries to detect and respond to such a threat. Bill de Blasio says that New Yorkers will begin dying in the next few days b/c there won't be a ventilator for them. Trump still won't invoke DPA to guide manufacture and distribution of vents and ppe. Trump says 'we'll see if NY has enough vents' and makes no effort to redirect some to NY where >500 ppl a day are dying. 4/15 Jim Acosta @Acosta In middle of pandemic Trump threatens to adjourn congress if lawmakers don’t approve his nominees. WH says constitution allows him to do it. “I have a very strong power,” Trump says. Trump points to nominee to oversee Voice of America as if that justifies such a drastic move. Daniel Dale @ddale8 Trump falsely claims, again, that he has the right to override governors' decisions on social restrictions. He says, baselessly, "We have the right to do whatever we want." 4/17 Washington Gov. Jay Inslee on Trump's comments today: "His unhinged rantings and calls for people to 'liberate' states could also lead to violence. We’ve seen it before." "The president is fomenting domestic rebellion and spreading lies" 4/19 Alice Miranda Ollstein ✔@AliceOllstein I asked President Trump why he waited until today to use the Defense Production Act for coronavirus testing swabs -- more than a month after labs began warning that swab shortages were hurting efforts to ramp up testing ( https://www.politico.com/news/2020/03/16/coronavirus-testing-glitch-cotton-swabs-132692 ) 4/20 Kasie Hunt ✔@kasie HOLDUP ON THE HILL: Democrats are still pushing for money for states, sources tell me & @LACaldwellDC &. @AlexNBCNews Republicans say: No way. Administration told Rs it wouldn’t be in the deal during a conference call yesterday Cuomo says that NY is expecting a $10-15B deficit, and that there's no way they can fund diagnostic/antibody testing. Cuts expected for hospitals, schools, and other local funding.
apparently it was copy/pasted and we stomped on him for no reason i still like the FDR-Trump quote comparison
“The Fake News media is being very unfair to the fine officers. Which reminds me of how the failing New York Times is very unfair to your favorite president (ME).”
made the mistake of looking her up on Twitter and reading her excitement about an interview with OLIVER FUCKING NORTH on "the state of journalism"
