Obviously you've not heard the cover by Save Ferris. But then you'd know that if you watched 10 things I hate about you since they're the band playing at prom. The 90's were a dark period in the life of user Doc Louis as it included a brief exploration of 90's ska and punk.
I’ve never understood why seemingly nobody has gone with the works of art defense for all these statues. It’s always erasing history or heritage not hate bullshit. Guess they are too stupid to come up with that defense.
You may be totally on target for the reasons you listed for not voting for Newsome and honestly I dont know much about him. Other than the reasons listed what else about him makes him unelectable for you. What's his voting record? What are some of his accomplishments? What has he failed at?
Have you seen Nandor the Relentless’s graphic designs? They’re definitely works of art compared to that
Has Trump declared that the Trump blood is immune yet? Asking for a friend who just can’t simply catch up
Not sure why you care OhReally but Newsome locked everything down early, but was undone in containing the spread due to other states.
We ain’t talking about chiseling marble, it’s incredibly simple to cast a bronze statue relative to that.
Remember between 2008-2016 or so when conservatives were in a state of constant tears over the use of “identity politics” because of how “the Left” was using it to fracture the country? Kinda funny how I haven’t heard the term “identity politics” at all the last four years.
I think you misunderstood — or maybe I didn’t accurately express — the point of my post. For the entire Obama presidency all I ever heard from conservative friends and family was how much they hated Obama because everything he publicly said was about “identity politics.” You still hear these same folks in real life and on the Internet spew the bullshit about how Obama single-handedly brought racism back to the US or say shit like “I couldn’t stand him because he was so divisive!” Now these very same folks have a guy who openly and purposely pushes the very thing that they used to call “identity politics” at every turn, and suddenly they have no problem with “identity politics.” Of course, they still accuse the Left of it, but they rebranded it’s to shit like “culture wars” and whatnot. The point being, people who love to stand on some supposed principles are massive fucking hypocrites.
That’s not the point. A smart person would go with the work of art route because the whole history and heritage not hate thing isn’t working for anyone who doesn’t already believe in those arguments.
You will see this happen until we have more than 2 political parties. I rewatched the video of Jon Stewart destroy tucker Carlson on crossfire this morning and one thing he said in particular stuck out to me. He was talking about the “spin zone” after a debate and how they go on their and lie. The other host pushed him a little saying that the people talking believe what they are saying. Stewart disagreed and said that they believed in their candidate and that person being the best person to take the country forward but that they are lying to the American people because they believe the ends justify the means. That was a problem in 2004 and it’s a million times worse now. If we are being fair, both sides are guilty of it but we’ve never seen the level of dishonesty reach what it has today in the Republican Party. They will commit treason, allow Americans to be killed, support Russia and do other unthinkable acts out of fear of the president tweeting mean things about them. the politicians who enabled Donald trump will be judged harsher than any other group of politicians in modern history.
People have made this argument too. It’s just as dumb. Most were put up in the 60s. They are designed to be intimidating to a group of people not art work to another.
FWIW I heard that men that like statues on average have penises 4-6 inches smaller than the rest of the population, spread the word
I mean shit there was a former poster here who said the statues need to stay up because if you took them down then there wouldn’t be any art in the south.
Stone Mountain is at least somewhat impressive from an artistic standpoint, still needs to be changed though.
What? There were two civil war prisons in Ohio at Johnson’s Island in Lake Erie and in Columbus. There is a soldiers memorial statue in the cemetery of each, over 2000 are buried at Camp Chase in Columbus. Columbus has a group of folks who are particularly proud of the city’s Union history. It’s why the NHL team is named the Blue Jackets.
Thought one of them was a memorial for the prison camp There's a few under the Ohio section https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Confederate_monuments_and_memorials
I’m not sure what the wiki is counting as a confederate memorial. There are a ton of Union statues in Ohio but they are all generals like Grant, Sherman, Sheridan who were from Ohio. There is a Custer statue in the town where he was born and Native Americans have protested there. This is the statue in Columbus.
