I really don’t understand the idea of torching the post office. Gonna piss of his most loyal base(the olds) and those are the most at risk going to polls. Plus pissing off the base against you. seems like a bad play all around
his loyal base is just that - loyal there's no turning them so all this is doing is throwing chaos into the mix when every viable indication is suggesting he's deep under water. this isn't going to convert anybody - it's just going to fuck up voting
I get his side has all the blind follower, but when Carol can’t get her medicine, a ride to the polls, or mail out Christmas cards she’s gonna be pissed.
It's morbid but perhaps the only way Trump loses now is if too many of his followers die from delayed medicine before they cast their votes.
Is the post office inspector general someone Trump can fire? I know he can fire most IGs but I didn’t know if the post office IG was separate since trump can’t hire/fire the postmaster general Directly.
I'm old enough to remember when it was bad form to politicize stuff when people are sick or have passed.
All this shit is making it harder to vote. But at the same time it is going to piss so many people off that they will wait all day to vote if needed. And it is mobilizing the right people (hopefully) to ensure everyone votes on time. can’t say dems will be disinterested like in 2016
My only question is, since this will not be postmarked, is such a ballot going to be challenged by Trump's army of election-challenging lawyers?
good thread. I liked this conclusion: ... because of the carefully chosen language - "claimed they wanted"
The Political Media Must Prepare Itself for Trump's Post-Election Vandalism The president's ruthless destruction of the post office is just a preview of what he and his party are capable of. Spoiler By Charles P. Pierce Aug 14, 2020 I’m going to cling to my prediction that we are going to see an unprecedentedly brutal presidential campaign that will conclude in a major landslide that sweeps every felon and grifter at Camp Runamuck into the Potomac. But I have to admit that I’m starting to hedge my bets a bit. The multi-front assault on the United States Postal Service for the purposes of ratfcking a national election is a variable that I neglected to include in my calculation. An American president garroting the nation’s most fundamental lifeline, and the one on which most of his own prospective voters depend? Nope. Didn’t see that one coming. Things seem rapidly to be coming to a point in Pennsylvania, via the Philadelphia Inquirer: The warning came in a July 29 letter from Thomas J. Marshall, general counsel and executive vice president of the Postal Service, to Pennsylvania Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar, whose department oversees elections. That letter was made public late Thursday in a filing her Department of State submitted to the Supreme Court, asking it to order that mail ballots be counted as long as they are received up to three days after the Nov. 3 election date.If the court agrees, that could increase the likelihood that the results of the presidential race between President Donald Trump and presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden won’t be known for days after the election. The Postal Service’s letter came amid false attacks on mail voting by Trump, and as concerns mount nationally about how the coronavirus pandemic could disrupt the 2020 election. For Pennsylvania, a battleground state that was decided by less than 1% of the vote in 2016, the letter warned that “certain deadlines for requesting and casting mail-in ballots are incongruous with the Postal Service’s delivery standards.” This is beautiful. The administration* continues to do everything that it can to monkey-wrench the postal system, and then it has the sheer brass audacity to tell Pennsylvania that, nope, that state’s deadlines are too tight for the USPS to do its job as regards mail-in ballots. This mismatch creates a risk that ballots requested near the deadline under state law will not be returned by mail in time to be counted under your laws as we understand them,” Marshall wrote. Aren’t we edging right up to the classic law school definition of chutzpah here? And, as the Washington Post reports, the post-election ratfcking infrastructure already is being put in place, and it, too, relies on delegitimizing the work of your kindly mail carrier. The Republican National Committee and conservative groups are pursuing an unprecedented effort to limit expansion of mail balloting before the November election, spending tens of millions of dollars on lawsuits and advertising aimed at restricting who receives ballots and who remains on the voter rolls. The party is also working to train as many as 35,000 poll-watchers to monitor both in-person voting and ballot counting, mostly in key battleground states. And the RNC and Trump campaign advisers are now mapping out their post-election strategy, including how to challenge mail ballots without postmarks, as they anticipate weeks-long legal fights in an array of states, according to people familiar with the plans, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe internal discussions. Assuming I’m wrong about the cleansing landslide, the country—and, god knows, its political media—should start preparing itself for weeks of vandalism and poo-flinging from this administration*. There should be none of that 2000-vintage “the country needs closure” reporting that contributed so much to weight the scales on behalf of the Bush campaign. Whatever it takes for as long as it takes is not a bad principle on which to run a democracy. As Daniel Webster once said, the simplest governments on earth are despotisms.
“My wife didn’t get her medicine in time and died, but I like what he’s doing and I’m behind him 100%.”
It’s amazing how badly Trump and the gop wanted to run against Bernie. So they are pretending they are. What a disaster it would have been, thank you Jesus that Joe and Kamala are the ticket.
Writing letter. Jesus christ. Fuck you Dems. Y'all are stuck in the 80s when ppl gave a fuck. God damn it
nah make his fat ass walk naked to the stocks. Public shaming for this corruption and then liquidating his assets is my platform
When the Mueller report came out and Barr/Trump weren't each impeached, accountability pretty much went out the window.
chairman called for the postmaster generals resignation but he should be doing a hell of a lot more than just talking
