It stinks. But that’s our reality. Taking your ball and going home and giving trump a second term is infinitely worse than getting Biden elected and trying to force policy changes from within.
I'm not the person they need to market to (I'm voting no matter what), and having John Kasich and Colin fucking Powell on stage singing your praises doesn't help get you people who gave up hope. I just don't want to hear this bullshit calling people who the democrats don't do shit for privileged. It's disgusting.
The 5 million people in states that refused to expand Medicaid who would be covered under Biden's plan would probably disagree. The undocumented immigrants who would have access to a public option probably think it's a good step.
Once again this is great, the engaged vote like myself isn't someone they need to concern themselves with. The problem is... The people that Bernie was talking to they're not talking to. They're marketing themselves like hell to Republicans but they're not doing shit for people who's policies they're lives have decimated.
My dad sent this to me a little bit ago. I laughed pretty hard at the part where The Donald snaps his finger.
I think everyone agrees with that, I'm mostly just tired of hearing those dumbass "selfish" takes. Especially on this board where it's safe to say we're all voting Biden.
Trump is horrible, Biden is just there, I’d rather have Democrats in charge of this pandemic than Republicans.
Like decriminalization of weed and expunging related criminal records? Expanding medicaid to 5 million people? Raising minimum wage to $15? Ending mandatory minimum sentences and private prisons? Paid family leave? Student loan debt relief? Refusing to acknowledge the substantial progress his platform represents doesn't make sense to me at all. There's middleground between getting 100% of what you want and absolutely nothing and a portion of progressives seem to be ignoring that fact
1. Do you honestly believe he's going to do any of that? If you have doubt but ultimately believe the answer is yes then shouldn't he be constantly pushing policies. He almost never talks about this stuff. Also If you have doubt, imagine how people feel that have CONSTANTLY been let down by Democrats feel? 2. Once again.... They're constantly marketing themselves to Republicans with a message of "we're no Trump". 3. Where is the messaging to those with nothing that Sanders was preaching that "We are going to fundamentally improve your lives and change the way the country works please get out and vote for us" Telling me shit like "This is his platform" is great, but the Dems have routinely just dismissed their platform for neoliberalism like every fucking time. They're not doing enough to secure as many votes as possible. Everyone forgets that Biden was attached to a administration that let a ton of people down in this country and a lot of people got left behind. Why will it be different this time?
What Bernie Sanders did that moved anyone in the Democratic Party anywhere was simply talk about things that could help people. And those things turned out to be pretty popular with a lot of people - maybe even most of the country. That’s what minimally shifted the rhetoric from some of the dinosaurs. They don’t respect Bernie or AOC. They do fear a movement of the people. That’s what needs to keep happening. Continued rabble rousing will be more powerful pushing change than voting. But still vote.
Maybe it’s a thing where ppl don’t care when women talk about their plans, but recent evidence shows the voting public doesn’t care about details. Hell, trump never gives details. Plans are a way for the media to hold only one party accountable for questions like—how you gonna pay for that? If Sanders saying Biden would be the most progressive president since FDR means nothing, then idk which rhetoric will carry more weight.
If you don't believe anything he says and think he's lying I don't have a good answer for you. We all wanted to see progressives influence him and he met with AOC and Bernie and then moved left on a variety of issues. They're both supporting him so they obviously believe in it. If they believe him, I'm not going to assume I know more about his intentions. He has been pushing climate change actions for 30+ years and introduced the first legislation back in the 80s. He also was part of the admin that dramatically expanded Medicaid. If that's all he did along with the weed decriminalization/record expungement it'd be a huge move forward for the environment and the most vulnerable Americans. We probably won't agree though so I'll stop clogging the Trump thread on it.
Then you can't call people who quite frankly get terrorized every day by fascists privileged for not voting. O so I should be scared of fascism when I literally experience every day? Understand I'm playing devil's advocate here, just trying to speak up for people that don't see a change in quality of life no matter who the president is.
lmao at Biden implementing any of this dude, not sure why you keep telling us that he's going to follow through with all this shit.
I mean.. he could decriminalize all drugs..... Just saying though I'm playing devil's advocate here. People calling some of the people who don't vote selfish never even think to put themselves in their shoes. I'm not talking about white pod casters from New York either I'm talking about people who saw no fundamental change in their quality of living under Obama or Trump. You have to talk to those people directly like Bernie was and give them a reason to vote. John Kasich and Colin Powell don't do that for you if anything that scares them away.
Ah alright. I was just responding to the call for focusing more on policies during the election. What do I think is reality? Biden can court people who vote GOP for economic reasons, and then do a bunch of progressive things he’s talking about once in office, because it’ll all be good for the broader economy.
He hasn't moved left until he gets those polices on bills, they move through all houses (yes assuming Dem control of both), and he signs the damn thing. Until then it's just a bunch of fluff that his entire legacy and the party's has fought against my entire life. Putting that shit on a website doesn't equate to "moving left" when his entire legacy has been anything but.
imo arguing he won't do things is silly, he's obviously going to do the environmental protection regs back, etc your position is that it isn't enough, it'll be one step forward two step back with the next GOP pres, etc
Like how you want to always want to bitch at me but never have the guts to bitch at anyone else, just put me on ignore you asshole. I'm responding to the assertion that Biden has basically adopted all of the GND except in name, of course he'll roll things back to 2016 levels.
Carry over from the last page. Biden wins w your vote there is a chance for change. Trump victory give you zero chance...even like me in a red state Fuck! Still doing it on this page
If you has just said—it really sucks more people don’t support the policies this board likes—you could’ve saved the extra key strokes. Find a way. Agreed. People will need to call the Conner Lambs of the House to vote on progressive legislation.
Come on man. You can't complain about stuff you want, get told he wants to do some of the stuff you want and then complain he MIGHT not get it all. Under that premise, even Bernie as POTUS is a bad thing because there may be no way he does it all. This is why people say some are whining.
I'm mostly just asking him questions as to why these people should believe the guy who was VP under a president who did absolutely nothing for them. Now this guy is out here not talking to those people at all like Bernie was and is playing buddy with Republicans. A group of people who also don't do shit for those people. Like how are those people selfish for not seeing a point in voting?
We’ve reached the point of the campaign where people are saying “actually Joe Biden is a progressive.”
Yeah, I'm mad that the party, at least thus far, that is supposed to be the one who is trying to help the entire county, has done very little to truly address the existential crises that may very well plunge us into a hellish landscape. Forgive me for being upset online because I feel like my daughter is going to grow up in a world where her deductible will never not increase each year, half the coastal cities will be forced to spend billions on seawalls, and hundreds of millions of people will become climate refugees. Yes, Trump only will actively work to make these things come true faster, but it's impossible for some of us to not think 30+ years out and how we're not exactly optimistic that the current DNC apparatus is not going to have the spine to do enough.
You misunderstand me Pretty sure Mickey got the reference, even if you didn't Maybe read up on the RSDLP's prerevolutionary intraparty squabbles?
Seeing the stuff Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer did when this all began didn't help either. That was text book neoliberlism shit and Joe is just like them. Except he spent decades actively trying to destroy the social safety net. Hell he did it while he was the VP
We’ve passed the point where Bernie compared his presidency to FDR, and where Trump portrays him to the left of Bernie.
It's just wild to me how people think it's not fair to ask the question "Why will this be any different this time around?". Democrats should be thankful Progressives are here to yell at them, because Obama part 2 pretty much guarantees the country ends at the hands of some insane fascist in 4 years.
FWIW I'm with you, have been for some time. Just not as angry, or as Bolshevist as the Mick. Sunday I tore my MIL a new one at the dinner table for telling me how happy she'll be when Biden gets us back to normal
