Of course it was always mostly about “cultural and social resentment”. That said, I wouldnt use a poll of Trump voters to back that up. They are going to say the economy is excellent 9 times out of 10 - even if it is not for them personally or by meaningful measure collectively - because their dear leader says it’s so.
Guys, not passing an appropriations bill doesn’t mean anything other than furloughs and military personnel not getting paid on time
That's a small price to pay to make sure we continue to honor men who fought against this country. God bless the sacrifices that personnel has to make to, checks notes, support racism.
We are such a long way from overcoming the stupid boomer mentality of young people being worthless. The country *should* be run by people 30-50. 70 year olds are so remarkably out of touch.
These simple stats are pretty damn fascinating because they counter the “non college white male working class” narrative so hard. I’d like to see someone factor white privilege into non college white vs other races. ie where you grow up and how likely there are to be good paying job in your area and even if your peers in k-12 are more like to ascend and hire you.
I daresay think they'd also lie about their income, not sure where they'd get the idea to lie about that from
So the whole "Biden will get everyone to work together" really is just he'll cave to Mitch. Fucking hell
I’m sorry but in context this reads as Biden pushing them to do *something* now instead of doing nothing for 7 more weeks for him to take office. EDIT: And I don’t agree with giving in on the smaller bill but the “instead” is an inaccurate reading of the article.
Liberals hate liberals almost as much as they hate conservatives it’s p annoying. Republicans can rally around any imbecile with an (R) next to his name regardless of policies, democrats hate everyone, largely due to having higher standards, but this in a nutshell is how we ended up with the minority party having a disproportionate amount of power. How dare Joe Biden not nationalize the banks yet!
Step 1 was running a candidate that could unseat Trump. Check. Step 2 has always been to try to push Biden further left as the party platform evolves. Maybe let’s get past Inauguration Day before we crucify the guy.
No, sorry, you can pack this horseshit right up. Democrats don't get to consistently express a complete and thinly-veiled hatred for the left and also insist that the left owes the party their support, while simultaneously asking why we can't all get along.
how do some of you find these twitter accounts seems like once a day someone drops an intentionally misleading thing in here from whatever side of the spectrum and it's always some twitter clickbait nobody
The democratic party's message to left has been the exact same since the 1960's: "Shut the fuck up, and be happy with whatever meager shit we offer you. Don't like it? Vote for the GOP." And you fucking idiots wonder why you get regularly skullfucked
i thought that had to do with states with a population of like 2 million or less having the same number of senators as california
The dramatics on this board about the left not doing left enough stuff are akin to the reaction of Trump giving hysterectomies at the border. If you don't see that as counter productive idk what to tell you.
I know you know what gerrymandering is and I assume you are aware of states like Wisconsin where a blue state has a red state legislature.
Also, are we supposed to take you seriously when you compare advocating for a more robust stimulus as being akin to non-consensual hysterectomies?
What Biden is doing reflects the political reality. If the Republicans continue to control the Senate there will never be a $2 Trillion stimulus, or anything close to that amount. Biden is working on an agreement that is more than the Republican’s $500 Billion and, importantly, passable fairly quickly.
Much like GND, needs to be pitched as a jobs program (it basically is). Have the value-added component of helping small businesses stay open ahead of time (but lulz at forward-thinking being a thing in this country).
this most recent stimulus negotiations has been bizarro world from a TAKES perspective in that at least pre-election lots of the lefty folks were pushing for the compromise bill to get passed to help people as there is lots of economic pain out there vs the hardball pelosi had been playing (while having the inverse argument previously, which I actually mostly agree with the logic here on why the calculus changed!) Biden wanting them to get SOMETHING passed pre-inauguration seems to also be the best thing for people who are hurting so I don't even get that critique the logic of where people stand on this issue hasn't made sense to me most the time and it's kind of swinging back and forth. it reminds me of the folks who beat the table about the only stimulus was $1200, which is objectively false but makes for a good soundbite if you have secondary motives (even AOC who is the boogey man avoided this framing last night when discussing this whole situation). Pelosi never playing hardball early on was dumb, but then playing hardball late was also dumb. Was backwards.
He’s not the president yet, and he hasn’t said he wouldn’t do anything about student loan debt by executive order. He has proposed $10k of student loan debt relief as part of COVID stimulus; and additional student loan debt forgiveness as part of his published plan. I get that we want to move him to his left *right this second* but some of these critiques are fantastically disingenuous.
didnt wanna reply to this in the twitch thread and make it political but this is a country where congress (the senate) chooses not to help people so a congresswoman has to go and do a fundraiser where tax payers donate more of their money in order to get money into the hands of the people who need help it's amazing how fucking stupid this country is
