This probably correct. We here may know who individual members of Congress are but most people probably couldn't even name the House member from where they live.

 

He is saying that the House managers only cared about Herrera-Butler as a witness. Because the defense attorneys agreed to stipulate that her testimony would be substantially the same as her statement from last night and agreed to enter it into the record in lieu of calling her as a witness, there is no need now to call her as a witness. By doing so, this will allow Dems to get her on the record and let them move on to other legislative matters.

The problem with republics is they require an informed and engaged citizenry to ensure democracy. Add in the complications of constitutional federalism and it’s no surprise why our republic no longer ensures democracy, though it never likely actually did.

 

Merkley even said that the witness depositions could take a couple of weeks, putting a pause on the trial and allowing the senate to take up covid relief in the interim and they still chose no witnesses??! Man what

The talking point needs to be something like "We tried to be bipartisan and stand up for America against Trump's actions, but Republicans would rather align with the Proud Boys and coup attempts."

 

Why should we press this political advantage when we can instead not do so

This whole argument is a lie. Schumer sets the schedule for everything in the senate. They can do multiple things at once.

So the two main defenses are "nobody cares" and "We can't possibly do multiple things at once"
