huge L for the florida libs wishing their state matters “hey guys this guy who is trump but not funny or charismatic is gonna sweep the nation by storm”
Why do you dingleberries keep telling charter school success stories? The programs Texas, Iowa, Arkansas, etc. are rolling out are handouts to straight up private schools.
Texas has recapture laws in place for dealing with these issues. Rarely done efficiently but they are there. HISD was hit with giving up funding a while back because of these laws. TEA is taking over. HISD has some of the best and worst schools on the country.
This is why I always thought that Devos was the most dangerous one of trump's crew. School choice and vouchers sound so innocent and positive to people that dont know any better. I've only been at rural public schools, and have made the decision to get out of education completely at the end of this school year. The town I am in has one school in it, and that school recently turned charter (no vouchers yet). Nothing much has changed in the classroom, but the treatment of employees has been absolutely atrocious. There is an inner circle, and nobody else is safe (true in many small towns, but there are way more hoops to jump through to harrass people at public schools). Anyone not in that circle is constantly getting hounded for the most minor things. Multiple administrators and teachers are calling it quits, with a few completely getting out of the profession like me. I think the voucher people believe that they will be able to poach all of the good teachers from public schools, but instead it is only going to exacerbate the teacher shortage. Dire times are ahead, and I'm glad I don't have kids.
Why not remove assault weapons from the public square? Why not feed poor kids with our unlimited brrrr machine? Why not invest in public schools and make them a top priority? Rs: nah we good
You do this shit every time this subject is discussed. Your experience as a rich guy in a good neighborhood isn’t the norm for charter schools. There seems to be a decent Charter school in my neighborhood but I understand that while it might be okay it’s doing harm to the other schools in the neighborhood by taking away funding. Like ACAB all charter schools are bad.
For some reason, the phrase "school choice" is succeeding at convincing seemingly smart people that this is a net positive thing for our school systems, instead of the fucking national emergency that it really is. It's depressing to watch people (from both sides) unknowingly championing a cause that's going to create so much chaos.
It's almost as if whether charter schools are "good" or "bad" depends on their mandate, their environment, how they're run, and the type of oversight and interaction they have with the existing public school system. You say you're from a public ivy, then you spew absolutist shit like this instead of acknowledging nuance and complexity #bebetter
There's nothing a charter school can do that a public couldn't, assuming it hasn't been gutted by the community
It's pretty basic stuff (more involved is being able to tease through the data and understand why results vary). They also learn not to make broad overgeneralizations, and to understand the difference between statements like "hey maybe not all charters are bad" (which I implied) and "all charters are good" (which I did not say, imply, nor would I say).
I remember when I was in school there wasn’t an option for “my side” - whatever the teachrr said I did, I did. And it was mostly, if not always, the case.
If you ever find yourself aligning views with Betsy fucking Devos, it might be time to reflect on a few things.
I think the point is that Im sure there are hardworking, caring, and respectable charter schools, but the system as whole is wrong .
That’s some solid Pompeo shade which I always appreciate. While some may cheer go Creighton, or go Vols, I am busy screaming go Judge Beryl Howell and the rule of law.
Why is he not appealing? Appealing to SCOTUS would at least delay, if not overturn, a bad outcome for him.
And yet somehow steamengine seems to understand my point and you don't. Perhaps he understands how to interpret data better than you do
I gave an example of a charter school in my neighborhood that is doing well. Again your anecdotal experience is just that. The vast majority of charter schools under perform. You being in a rich suburbs doesn't negate that
The Charter High School in Aptos California drastically underperformed statewide metrics....but it's so great! It's actually worse than the local High school too
No it doesn’t. They are all bad. They all take away resources from neighborhood schools they all act like private institutions but use public funding. The few give assholes something to point to so they can ignore the thousands of charter schools that don’t work. Again all charter schools are bad in the same way that ACAB and that #yesallmen are valid truthful statements.
Very on brand for AptosDuck to be defending his charter school. Reminds me of him bemoaning his kids’ European vacations were canceled because of Covid.
Pacific Collegiate? Nice of you guys to have ~70% less low income students and much more white kids than the local schools. Publicly funded segregation
because they got rich with no help whatsoever assuming you dont count family and government subsidies
i assumed this was rhetorical but since others answered I will too. They believe they are better and smarter than the rest and that’s why they are rich. They are often spoon fed this by others. People often believe that the rich have to be exceptional and that’s why they are rich. Therefore (because of those beliefs) their opinions must and should matter more. Their views are what we should all have that way we too can become rich. More often than not (no matter how they achieved their wealth) they are just out of touch assholes.
This dude has definitely sucked a dick or two. Nobody hates gays more than gays who have never been able to be gay.
Is there literally anything in the constitution (or ANY government document for that matter) stating that a man can not be elected POTUS if convicted of a felony? Would the potential election victory just be vacated and the incumbent keeps the office?
PLOT TWIST: Trump knows he can't win due to criminal proceedings, runs as an Independent in '24 as a gigantic FUCKYOU to DeSantis and the entire Republican party.
