Quote I liked about why the British hate Trump so much (re: talk of protesting his upcoming trip to the Uk)
Would it be hyperbolic of me to say that for every good thing SCOTUS has done, they've done more harmful things that completely offset the good?
Could be wrong but I dont think McGahn is going to be all that difficult to question. Trump and Co seemed to have tried to throw him under the bus. Might be more cooperative than expected. Im also most likely being incredibly optimistic and naive on that.
It’s a nonsense opinion. The Court isn’t Batman, waiting in the wings to save the day for liberals (or conservatives) every time the elected branches do something liberals (or conservatives) don’t like. Blaming the Court for an adverse decision on the census question is an analog of asking Democrats if they’re going to impeach - in neither case is the responsible party being held to task.
Committee rules dictate that, and that’s literally how hearings work. They should absolutely coordinate lines of questions and have a plan to minimize any filibuster by mcgahn.
I imagine they could have one person handle all of their rounds, though. That would be huge in terms of maintaining flow and preventing the less talented questioners from taking up time.
Exactly just do what the Republicans did in the Kavanaugh hearing. Have every Democrat cede their time to 1 or 2 reps who are working together to drill that motherfucker
the tmb lawyers are some of the smartest people on this board, and i like many of them but, like lawyer friends IRL, they're generally going to put the supreme court on an undeserved pedestal due to their education
He’s going to complain about how unfair Twitter is to conservatives and that Obama has more followers.
The supreme Court is a bunch of partisan hacks and almost certainly a supreme Court of me and 8 other randoms from the lawyer thread could do better
I'm a lawyer. Fuck the Supreme Court. Especially the current and former justices that claim textualism as their guiding theory only to bend and compromise that approach whenever they see fit.
This is the story that will prove nobody disobeys him... A bunch of people not going to a dinner none of them want to go to anyways. God they are so pathetic.
Supreme Court justices almost universally are political operatives who are extremely good at law school exams. The heavy lifting is done by an army of clerks to justify whatever verdict the justice as already reached in general. Probably the best judge alive is Posner and he openly advocated for putting teachers and other non lawyers on the supreme Court and just letting the clerks help them with the technicals.
