Of course they will. But we could never get something like this passed if we were suggesting it. We need to take advantage of it. Let them pass it, then we can fix it once we get back in power.
I'm sure there were times. I'd put everything in word at times without internet access and distribute it, sometimes much later, that's when I would send it to myself. 2 weeks may be a stretch, but I know there were times that notes i took didn't get sent to myself or anyone until a week later.
Maybe a support human? You know, a human fatter than you. Drag him around on a leash so that the focus is taken off of you and placed on chubs. Quite the confidence-booster if you ask me.
It’s how he ran all of his businesses. Why should anyone be surprised? There is no non-Trump wing of the Republican Party anymore.
Same with infrastructure. Let them spend, then we can come back and be the adults who will actually fund it.
how about this compromise? 1. increase SNAP funding by 20% 2. eliminate all beverages outside of milk from eligibility 3. eliminate all candy/pre-made confections from eligibility is anyone here mad?
You are high if you think their infrastructure plans will be anything more than a gilded age wet dream
This food thing is not a wholly bad idea. Logistically it isn't happening though. Food allergies, packing, size, packing, shipping, displacement from home etc. etc. People who truly rely on this could and probably would get royally fucked. A delivery truck crashes and a family is out of food in need of delivery. A family misses the shipment, it goes to waste. We are all thinking blue apron, but that is a supplement for people like us. To people in real need a day late shipment could be a major problem. I look to meals on wheels. when we get a bad storm they will cancel delivery, I know people who are home bound and absolutely rely on that food, when it doesn't show it's a big deal. This is that on a MASSIVE scale and most likely would affect people in worse conditions than the people I am referring to.
Stop trying to play mom. A sedentary lifestyle is deadlier than obesity but nobody is proposing mandatory exercise to receive SNAP.
Who gives a shit? It'd be the same if Dems passed it. Isn't that something we've been screaming for for years? Now we're gonna act like we don't want it because the orange man proposed it?
Yeah I think this could be done as a supplemental thing and with nonperishables, but to move 100% of the SNAP program to a box service would be a bad idea.
Everyone remembers what happens when the government was put in charge of providing food to Puerto Rico right....
Because the fucking details matter like a lot. Not a good idea to let a bunch of proven con artists spearhead public works.
You seem to think that poor people are uniquely unable to budget. Not like responsible not-poor you, right?
Those things are absolutely linked. I'm looking for a solution that a) improves the ability for SNAP recipients to afford good food, b) gives a degree of MORE freedom to SNAP recipients in food spending/choice (while limiting some options, you are opening up other options), and c) lower the intake of bad food. I'm looking for a somewhat realistic solution to an issue that is rife with hypocrisy on both sides. If you logically believe that SNAP recipients should be allowed to buy anything somewhat resembling food, that same logic leads you to believe that someone should have total control of whether they wear a seatbelt or a helmet while on a motorcycle. We have laws in place to protect people from others and to protect them from themselves... we all draw lines (usually with some variation) of what stuff we agree with and what stuff we don't.
Coming from logistics this would absolutely happen on a daily basis. Any type of bad weather and you’d have families starving to death because they couldn’t have their food delivered. It simply cannot work based on that aspect alone. Trucks break down, drivers are late, drivers have to shut down for their hours, any number of things ALWAYS goes wrong. Always. Anyone who has worked in logistics will tell you that.
Don't you understand? The government providing aid opens the door for the poor to be treated like babies. Just like we do for everyone else the government provides subsidies to, like the rich and corporations...
Doing something is giving them food stamps. If you are going to be their mother, commit to full communism. Otherwise, it’s just condescending bullshit to make you feel better about your lot in life. It’s same as the Republican orthodoxy of categorizing the condition of being poor as a moral failing.
picking and choosing what people can purchase is starting from a position where you accept the welfare queen myth as truthful, you're starting from a stigmatized place of people on SNAP to make policy decisions its also a real strange alternate reality when I suspect many arguing in here would support UBI
I don't think SNAP should be used to purchase beer and liquor and to suggest that it should is absurd on a level that's uniquely moronic, even for TMB
Then when do you actually trust it to happen? The next time dems have both executive and legislative branches? We're gonna use all that political clout on universal health care and this will get kicked down the road again.
Seriously we just delivered 50,000 OF 30 MILLION MEALS to Puerto Rico. We literally just proved we're light years away from being able to do this
SNAP is provided so people don't starve, not so they aren't sober. Food is a necessity, jack daniels is not.
nearly 44 million people on food stamps and the government thinks they can mail everybody food boxes literally lol
It's ridiculous that y'all are arguing about how people can spend their govt assistance and want to coddle them like children, as if they would just smash their heads against the wall if not given guidelines. SNAP and other safety net programs are like 10% of the federal budget. There's many other places to eliminate waste (defense, kill all the boomers). Why focus on preventing the less fortunate from having soda or chips or booze or cigs or whatever thing brings reprieve from the day to day existential dread of poverty in this country? The Protestant bootstrap mindset has truly fucked up this country.
Not with NUTRITION assistance dollars. The purpose is to make sure people don't starve, not so they don't go without getting a buzz
Puerto Rico after a devastating hurricane isn't exactly the same as the normal continental United States. Impassable roads and massive amounts of cargo ships trying to use a port that had just been rocked. I get your point but that's not exactly a common scenario. Of course this shouldn't be the only source of food for SNAP recipients though.
saw on twitter but lol at calling delivering canned goods "blue apron" style - a food delivery service known for fresh, healthy meals. The garbage that would show up to feed families is going to be way worse for their health than the excess soda they may have treated themselves to
Oh, I wasn't aware that each individual would have a personal delivery person and so there would be no mass shipments that would be subject to cross country issues. My bad.
Apparently you’re either unaware or intentionally ignoring these shipments wouldn’t be the sole source of snap benefits?
