So if my symptoms are depression, anger and drowsiness caused by this morning's Trumpacolypse thread, you'll hook me up? Where does one get medical grade cocaine? And for what treatment purposes?
This ran in the Louisville Courier Journal Mitch McConnell: We paid for 'sin of slavery' by electing Obama Lucas Aulbach, Louisville Courier Journal Published 11:19 a.m. ET June 19, 2019 | Updated 1:02 p.m. ET June 19, 2019 Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's remarks over the last week have been making headlines, but the latest may be the most controversial. When asked about reparations for slavery on the eve of a House hearing on the issue, McConnell said reparations "for something that happened 150 years ago, for whom none of us currently living are responsible," were not a good idea. Besides, he suggested acts, such as electing Barack Obama president, could be considered a form of compensation. "We tried to deal with our original sin of slavery by fighting a Civil War, by passing landmark civil rights legislation, elected an African American president," McConnell said. "I don't think we should be trying to figure out how to compensate for it. First of all, it would be hard to figure out whom to compensate." The backlash, as it often happens with McConnell, came swiftly. Spoiler You may want to read: Juneteenth is not Independence Day for black Americans. We still aren't free Recent headlines: McConnell was behind kicking Jenean Hampton off Bevin's reelection ticket, fired aide says Kentucky state Rep. Charles Booker (D-43rd District) wrote on Twitter that the "shameful" remarks showed McConnell doesn't care about black people or Louisville's West End, and that Kentucky needs to stand against McConnell during his reelection bid. Reparations is about so much more than money. You think the history is too far removed? Tell that to my grandad. You’ll hear from him soon.... Folks, this man just called President Obama “reparations”. https://t.co/rRwHuyyY9j — Charles Booker (@Charles4LouKY) June 19, 2019 Kevin Cosby, president of Simmons College in Louisville and senior pastor at St. Stephen Church in the West End, called the comment "the most ignorant, historically inaccurate statement ever uttered by a ranking senator." This is the most ignorant, historically inaccurate statement ever uttered by a ranking Senator. Reparations is 4 crimes that began n slavery and continued over 100 yrs beyond. He once quipped that his top goal was to make Obama a one-term president and famously blocked Obama's nomination of Judge Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court during the final year of his presidency. Recent headlines: McConnell on a potential 2020 SCOTUS vacancy: 'Oh, we'd fill it' The criticism of McConnell came as the senator was taking heat for comments he made Monday about the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund. After emotional testimony last week by former "Daily Show" host Jon Stewart in support of reauthorizing the fund to help pay for medical and economic losses for victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and their families, McConnell said in a Fox News interview that he didn't know why Stewart was "all bent out of shape" and that "many things in Congress happen at the last minute." Stewart jumped on those comments, appearing on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" later Monday and accusing the senator of only supporting the 9/11 community when it's convenient and using it "as a political pawn to get other things you want." McConnell, during his Monday interview on Fox News, added that the Senate "will address this problem appropriately" after the House takes up the bill before the August work period. A spokesman for McConnell on Wednesday said the Senate will take action after the House acts. Support local journalism Support stories like this one by becoming a subscriber today! Mitch McConnell a racist 'a--hole' McConnell, in the meantime, appeared on Fox News on Thursday night and Monday morning to repeatedly discuss socialism ("none of these socialist schemes, the ‘Green New Deal,’ ‘Medicare for All,’ are going to pass the Senate"), Iran ("The sanctions are really hurting. The president made the right decision backing out of the nuclear deal because it wasn't much of a deal") and other issues. He deflected questions Thursday night about President Donald Trump's ABC News interview in which he said he would accept damaging information about a political opponent from a foreign government ahead of an election. Trump has since walked back those remarks. The Associated Press contributed reporting. Lucas Aulbach can be reached at [email protected], 502-582-4649 or on Twitter @LucasAulbachCJ.
Have two really shitty tangents going. At least one is semi-related to politics, but this accutane discussion (why it’s in this fucking thread I have no idea) needs to stop, or go somewhere else.
Thought Trump is fixing this by deporting 11 million illegals this week and got Mexico to take care of this with Tariffs?
If Newt Gingrich is defending you goddamn, i hope he strokes out before he has a chance to win the nomination.
I have a relative that works for the company that makes the stars. They get paid to fix or the full cost to replace the stars when they are damaged so they are loving all the defacing going on with his star. The City Council is pretending to take a stand because of moral reasons but I'd bet it's really because they are sick of shelling out thousands of dollars constantly on the stupid thing.
Dont you have to pay for your star? Like it's not a some big honor by a committee - you have apply and pay for it all? I think I read that somewhere.
they pay a one time up front fee that is supposed to cover costs and maintenance. I'm sure that money is just placed into the city's general funds and not kept separate for ongoing repairs and replacements
To be honest, I’d prefer to see photos of Jerry, Jr., getting pegged by his wife just because the ramifications(teehee) are much greater.
Im talking to my neighbor yesterday, a 70ish year old woman who goes by JZ (awesome in and of itself), and she tells me that she is medium-term housing a asylum seeker from Kenya. This dude comes outside and tells us how he was escaping political persecution and that he took a boat to Brazil and WALKED up to the California border. He needed a sponsor in order to stay in the US before his court date and JZ volunteered. Give me people like this anyday/everyday over some lazy Trumptard shitheal whos views are formed by them being a scared little pussy of people who look different than them.
Without watching the video, I'm just going to assume that Owens has zero clue that Dixiecrats were conservative Democrats. And that the real name of the Dixiecrats was the States' Rights Democratic Party. And that there were progressive Republicans. And of such a thing called the Southern Strategy. Or I'm going to assume that Owens knows all of that but also knows that the unwashed masses don't have a clue and that he can profit off them as another one of the Right's Uncle Toms.
Lmao read all the (white) ppl replies which *of course they do* liberally feature the phrase "well spoken"
Googled Burgess Owens. See that he is a Mormon. Oh my. Wonder if Owens knows that until recently, his church deemed being black a literal curse from God -- aka the Curse of Cain and the Curse of Ham. These "curses" were used to justify slavery, as well as the Mormons denying blacks their priesthood until about 40 years ago when God told a church leader in a prophetic dream that it was now okay to treat blacks like real humans.
Reading about Burgess Owens, Status Joe's recent comments, anything Trump says, and pretty much 90% of what any Boomer believes, I come to only one conclusion:
i mostly buy that the specter of the USSR going away is a top five factor if not #1 in american conservatism just completely going off the rails
I listened to the entire thing because I really wanted to understand his point of view. That said, I’m just frustrated. It is so hard to change people’s minds, but I’m also not really clear what he was asking to be done.
I am just frustrated by it whatever it was. I hate seeing people who believe so strongly in something that doesn’t make sense.
I doubt he actually believes this shit, he's most likely just grifting like the rest of them. That said, if he's a member of the LDS, well, then he just may be that ignorant.
