Y'all are looking at the "but Beto isn't left enough!!!!" issue wrong. The most important box a candidate needs to check is likability. The person needs to be inherently likable and grab people's attention on their own merits. Once you do that, you can push their politics to the left over time. Shit, Obama wasn't even for gay marriage in 2008, and look at him now. On the flip side, look at Hillary. Her politics were something that 65 percent of this country would have supported, but nobody was willing to listen to her because they didn't like the messenger of those politics.
This is fine. I don't disagree with this. Then let's discuss what those issues are and if you're going to trash potential candidates, I think you should at least offer some proposals of your own to add to the discussion.
white obama is not a ridiculous or reactionary comparison tho. beto's voting record is way more mainstream dem than "progressive," as he was a member of the new democratic coalition, and his main appeal comes in being a charismatic voice that appeals strongly to young voters.
And wh And who's to say that his politics aren't already to the left of what he campaigned on while trying to get elected in a predominantly red state
Unnecessary and alarmist extrapolations being attached to some otherwise meritorious discussion points. Simple as that.
not sure what "proposal" you're looking for at this stage. i'll just quote the same article i linked to before since it sums it up better than i could: But the primaries aren’t even here yet, so there’s no need to begin resigning ourselves to policies that are merely better than Republican alternatives. We still have time to pick a politician with a bold, clear, distinctly progressive agenda, and an articulated vision beyond something-better-than-this, the literal translation of hope-change campaigning.
Dude, there aren't any women around here other than Tobias . You are on your own wanting a dude blow job party.
For fucks sake... If you are going to bitch and moan about a potential candidate, fucking post a candidate that would support your policy preferences that you think can win a general election. Pick one, fucking pussies. Odds next to them are Vegas odds to win the democratic nominee. Neil degrasse Tyson gets my vote.
I prefer my leaders get to the implementation stage, not just ideation and invention. That’s not to say a progressive cannot do that, but our country, for better and for worse, is set up to move and change at a glacial pace. It’s possible to upset that apple cart, but rather improbable. Either way, the discussion is not best served with hysterics. If we can’t agree even to that baseline, it’s gonna be a long road to 2020 and beyond.
The one thing I will say about not committing is that it makes the down-ballot message a little more difficult. If you rallied around a solution then you can win more legislative seats.
I'm unabashedly hetero and all that, but I've long figured that the best cocksuckers are probably guys and the best cuntlickers are probably chicks, because they own the plumbing they're servicing
Beto is centerist trash. The only reason he's popular is because he was facing lizard person Ted Cruz But the good thing is, we still have a primary to go before the general. This is exactly the time to bitch and complain about candidates/potential ones.
I hope you guys get a legit primary this time instead of an anointment. The country as a whole will be better for it.
Complain... Offer no valuable contribution ... Pick apart everyone else's... Repeat. 90% of the last several pages. Worst guy at a party lives ITT.
Trump quits after his first term, Pence pardons Trump, Trump continues to live the life of a rich man. This is America.
People like CaneKnight and Name P. Redacted would rather spit in the face of a very good candidate in favor of a perfect candidate that exists only in their minds. Even if a perfect candidate existed, they'd find a way to complain about them, too, because they just live to complain.
Complaining is part of the democratic process. Stop bitching at people to shut up, keep their heads down and take whatever medicine they're given. FFS,
Let me be claro: there isn't a perfect candidate. Yes, pushing candidates to the left is good for our country and aligns with the shift in the electorate. Policy and party platforms can be shifted. Personality and experience can't be. Don't write off those that have those latter qualities at this stage. Policy positions are tailored to the race that you run, which can backfire of course (see: Donnelly). If one were to run a race in, say, Texas and then run a national race, the two platforms will not be identical.
