not sure why soundbars would be a better alternative to normal surround sound, unless you just plain didn't want wires or speakers in other places. i love my 5.1
Yeah I don't want any visible wires throughout the room. One side of the room is a stone wall and the other side is all glass (open on either end). Can't hide any cables or put the speakers in the wall. I know 5.1 would probably give a better sound but I've heard soundbars/subs with great sound as well I just don't know where to begin as far as looking for them goes
Don't buy a 32 in that is 1080p. It's a huge waste of money. You can't tell the difference between 720 and 1080 under 42 inches. Don't think an LED is very smart either at that size (not sure if you had ruled that out or not).
58" of 1080 Panasonic plasma right hurr $1099 on amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003924UA2/ref=oss_product
I'm looking to spend $700ish on a new TV. I want it to be 1080p and as big as possible for that price. Can anyone help?

Ended up going with 3 samsungs. a 55" 6800 series LED and two 40" 630 series LCD (they are still thin, still 120hz, great picture, and cheaper than the 32" LED). Love them but didn't realize until post-KOP (or I think this is true from what it seems) that DirecTv only gives broadcasts in 60hz no matter how many your tv has. Kinda sucks. What quality does the online netflix broadcast in? Haven't put any of the three on wall mounts but will after Christmas. At the moment they are all on their stands. Got the tvs a lot cheaper than the listed price due to buying 3 and getting a builders discount (saved about $700 off already greatly reduced black friday prices so I got a pretty good deal). Still haven't figured out what to do re-sound BUT surprisingly the sound isn't horrible with just the tvs. Buddy came by the house and one upped me for his bedroom because of how much he liked my 40" 630 he went with a 46" 630 this afternoon.
am i missing something or are these not the same tvs? http://www.walmart.com/ip/Philips-42PFL7704D-F7/14961940 http://www.walmart.com/ip/Philips-42-42PFL6704D-F7/13022844
parents kopped 46 inch sammy LED 120 hz 46 inch sammy LCD 60 hz 52 inch Sony LCD 120 hz they dont even know what they are gonna do with the LCD sammy, they said they there gonna put it in a country home they haven't bought yet are prices really as good as they rumoured to be? like better than years before? thats why my parents justified buying three to me
God I am pissed I missed the buy.com deal. I was freaking blasted when it released and didn't know about it, but damn that was a great deal.
Depends on the model and how direct the light is. However, I would try to tone it down as much as possible.
42 inch Panasonic 1080p (doesn't matter much against 720, but highlights the discount more) for $298 plus tax and free shipping.

Just got a panasonic 37" led-lcd tv from amazon about a week ago for my bedroom. Huge fucking upgrade over the old 20" box tv i used to have. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0038KR7KA/ref=oss_product
available on amazon right now VIZIO SV470M 47-inch 1080p LCD HDTV with 120 Hz Smooth Motion List Price: $998.00 $599.99 You Save: $398.01 (40%)
I got a 55" Vizio TruLED for $1399.99 from Dell about a month ago, usually retails for $1899.99. Check them out, they usually have good deals, and you can find coupons online very easily, plus in home delivery is free.
Just bought this...feel like I could have waited for a better deal, but they had one in stock at a store close to me so I'm getting it today http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Panasonic+-+VIERA+/+50%22+Class+/+1080p+/+600Hz+/+Plasma+HDTV/9887422.p?id=1218189764175&skuId=9887422
That is a decent price. Let me know how it is por favor. Same model I bought [well slightly bigger] but it's the U2 series.
best buy had a ridiculous deal yesterday when I was in store. 46" Sony 240hz LED 3d tv (I know 3D is a waste but it is a badass tv) with a PS3, Gran Turismo 5, and a Blu-Ray movie (came with specific one but the salesman told me he'd give me blu-ray of my choice if I bought it) for $1299. TV itself is usually 2299
Holy hit that is an awesome deal kbw. Looking for a 32" or smaller for <$500 any good deals left? Going to try to buy my parents a nice tv. They still have a 20" they won 25 years ago.
I didn't buy it. Don't have a use for a 46" tv but posted due to it being a great deal. I thought for a few minutes about taking back one of the 40" samsungs I bought that was still in the box but the 40 I already had out was perfect size for what I'm using it for. I just don't see a need for 3d (not even really 3d like in the movies where the stuff comes out at you it just looks like there's depth in the tv). I feel they may scrap 3d tvs due to how much they are struggling to sell them. The 55" 6800 has depth like a 3d tv without having to wear glasses. I'm loving the hell out of this damn tv and I won't even have it hooked up right until later tonight. My buddy that I talked into the 46" 630 series has his hooked up with HDMI and messed with the stuff to set it up like rec'd on avsforums and it is looking incredible for how good of a deal he got on it. Looking forward to having mine set up correctly. I lucked out and got the display panels that you want...didn't realize they used different ones in the same tvs and didn't know to check before buying until post-KOP but I lucked out.
anyone have any good deals from cyber monday? i got the itch right now. looking for a 37-42 LED or maybe bigger if the price is good enough. maybe a 46 or 52 inch LCD if its LOW
Slick deals had a 46" LED for 899. Don't rememver anything but that. It's on the hot deals front page though.
The 3D TV with that deal is like $1,700. The $1,300 deal is for a 46" non-3D LCD-LED. Still a great deal because the TV itself is $1,300 so they're giving you a PS3 and GT5 for free. I'm very close to jumping on that deal. I have a 50" plasma currently but my dad's old, CRT-projection TV died recently so I was thinking about giving him the plasma (only a few months old) and getting this 46" with the PS3 and GT5 because I almost bought a PS3 and GT5 last week anyways. The only problem is the plasma has a tiny bit of IR/burn-in because I played a lot of MW2 on it within the first 200 hours like a jackass. So I'd feel kinda shitty if I gave him a 50" plasma that was somewhat tainted. You can only see the little bits of the MW2 HUD stuff on off colors. Like the light red background near the bottom of the screen when loading Netflix on my 360 or on faded background type stuff during commercials or loading screens. I can't even see it myself when looking for it on about 95% of the stuff my parents would watch on it. I'd just give them the 46" and keep the PS3/GT5 but I think it may be too small for their family room. The 50" is even pushing it a bit. I've been looking for a decent 55" for them for around $1300-1400 so I don't know.
Update: 1. Ordered this tv yesterday because they had one in stock at a local store. Card was charged. TV was purchased. 2. Got email this morning saying it actually wasn't in stock. 3. Called Customer service 4. Rep informed me they could cancel order and order me a new one to be delivered...but at today's price. Told rep they were out of their mind, its their fault, blah blah blah. They didn't budge. 5. I asked about next level up model that was in stock at a couple of local stores. Wouldn't budge. 6. ????? 7. Deficit. Canceled order on tv. Of course, when they canceled, they accidentally put through a new order and charged my card again.
BTW..don't ask me why I didn't pick it up yesterday (though no clue if they actually ever had them)...was basically just too lazy and didn't have a truck handy and we were going to use my boss' truck today on lunch.
Man I've had the same luck with the buy.com amazing tv deal. They ended up selling too many or something. More than they could get or the company couldn't provide enough to buy.com. Either way they canceled everyone's orders. Then everyone gets an email saying we'll give you a $50 GC then another email saying they were gonna try to get the tv's so it wouldn't work. Then it remained canceled and nothing. News on monday. No, there will be news on tuesday. No, there will be news on Wednesday. Now it's back to processing. No clue if i'll actually get it.
Worst part is some have gotten calls, some have gotten more emails, some have gotten news they will get their tv's, some have gotten nothing but it says "processing" now, and some have gotten nothing and it stills says canceled. Also seems to be in a completely random order.
$899 here too...if you go into the store they'll take more off http://hhgregg.com/ProductDetail.asp?SID=n&ProductID=24518
Just got this one for $699 (the price I ordered the other one for) after calling back and talking to a manager http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Panasonic+-+VIERA+/+50%22+Class+/+1080p+/+600Hz+/+Plasma+HDTV/9786054.p?id=1218174065119&skuId=9786054 Its in my apartment now..will report back once its hooked up later. Pretty stoked
Man you should have gone up the ladder. Best Buy is tough to deal with, but if you are patient they will give the farm away. I got a 42" Panny Plasma last December for about $200 (down from like $550) after I bitched about delivery delays. Just keep fighting and asking for credits. Also, got a friend an upgraded model of the same TV for nothing, plus a $75 credit back. By the way when I say credit I mean directly back to my credit card. That was without even putting the charges for the TV (except for $50) on credit card because I used gift cards.
