I really want to grab a small projector but I'm struggling to find something that's native 4k in a size an mostly price I want.

You won't. I just bought these same TV's. Sony looks better for DirecTV and Netflix. Not close, honestly. I do like the LG for PS5 though.

$1k too much? That seems to be about the entry point I think for 4k projectors based on seeing some models on Amazon, kickstarter, etc. Though I'm not so sure on mobility/durability at that level.

At the mini projector level (e.g. size of a box of tissues or soda can, like mine) they cut so many corners. Mine is only 200 lumens which means I cannot use during the day (which is generally fine).

It's makes an OP TV experience in any bedroom though, at ~100 inches.

yeah, I'm being irrational, I want 4k packaged and priced like yours, something I can throw in a small bag and take camping, etc. I'll settle for a cheap 1080 unit.

Back in the TV market. Have a TCL 5 series in the bedroom and love it. Thinking about the same for the basement I’m finishing. I’m not a TV snob, I only stream TV, movies etc... not a big gamer. Want good visuals but don’t need top of the line.

    sounds like TCL, right?

If you’re happy with the current TCL then I don’t think you can beat what it offers for the price.

Looking for a 50" for the bedroom. TCL is my go to. Anyone like any other brands? The cheaper the price the better. Just needs to be a smart tv.

No one will be shocked to learn that Mitsubishi has since broken but I'm still rocking a 55 inch Vizio I've had since 2013. I'm just glad TVs have become much more affordable in the decade since.

Finally got to see both TVs side by side in Best Buy. My daughter preferred the 950H. Said the colors looked more real with the A8 being too dark. For $900 less, I might agree with her.

I ended up getting the Kanto PMX700. Supposed to work for TVs up to 100” and 150 lbs. The Sony weighs right at 100 lbs so I should be in the clear.

not sure what brand we used at the office but we have two 85” TVs on full motion mounts. Shouldn’t be an issue if you get one rated for that size.

Not seeing as many TV deals for the Super Bowl as I expected for Sony. Either way I’m getting at least 1 new TV this week but really was hoping for a deal.

about to head to costco with my in-laws, they're looking for a 65". Anyone have a handy guide for the difference between all the technologies? LED/LCD OLED QLED, 4K, etc.

Most will be 4k, some will be 8k, 8k is only necessary if they want to be way ahead of the game. OLED is best and most expensive, Mini LED (not sure what is out there yet) is second. QLED is LED with better colors. LED is cheapest but varies greatly due to differences in lighting “zones”, more zones = better/more expensive.

Hope that gives some help, someone can correct me if I’m off.

I have a 65” LG C9 and love it. I mainly watch sports and movies on it. I did research for a long time on panels and you really can’t beat OLED. They are expensive and if your in laws spend 12 hours a day watching CNN or any channel all day long, they have a propensity for burn in. This has gotten so much better since the 9 series panels and I imagine you’re looking at the X series which is out now. OLEDs have the best blacks.

My good friend has a QLED and loves it but mainly games and watches movies on it. They’re cheaper but as said above has more vibrant colors but not as good blacks. It’s a Sammy and he has no regrets.

I have another friend who works at Best Buy and he said they have seen an uptick in Vizio repairs in that 2+ year window. I have other friends who swear by them.

I continue to hear good things about the Sony Bravia’s though I’ve never owned one.

It’s funny you mentioned this as I’m taking my dad out there next week to do the same as he wants a new TV.

    Good luck!

I’ll second the C9 (Cx). That said I also have a TCL 5 series that would be more than enough tv for most folks. I also have a cheap ass Sammy and while it’s fine you can see the difference between it and the others.

I’ve got the ultra-thin LG OLED65GX. Second OLED from LG. The first was the last curved screen (& 3D) that they put out. It got burn in unfortunately after three years. They didn’t produce the parts anymore so LG just gave me 70% of what I paid for it (which was used on the newer model).

I can’t recommend an LG OLED enough though. The newer models have cut down significantly on the trailing of fast moving objects that plagued the earlier OLEDs. The PS5 looks incredible on it as well.

It seems over the years $900 has always gotten you a good TV. We don’t game, just YouTube TV/Netflix which we run through our Amazon FireTV cube thing. Also we use our soundbar,l for whatever that’s worth.

at 55" you're in between classes at ~$900.

$900 doesn't get you a current gen OLED at 55", but you might be able to find a prior year (or even open box, meh) LG OLED. A prior year LG OLED would point you to a B9 or C9, most likely.

Check this link and do some light reading: https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/best/by-size/55-inch

I'd probably recommend you go up a little in budget to this TV. It should be widely available, and generally close to the price you see here. It checks every box except for being OLED, and those gaming related boxes you indicated you didn't need. Sony is well known for having the best upscaler for content that isn't already in 4k, like tv and sports. Since its OS is made by Google, you'll have a smarter TV for use with YTTV.

If you really want an OLED, you're going to have to go at least up to ~$1200 for the Vizio option, the lowest priced one here in the States.

I’m actually leaning towards a 65” TCL series 5 for $650. There’s no way we are going to appreciate the difference between the series 5 and 6 as best I can tell, so I’m going inexpensive at this point.
