i would probably rip out the mantle and everything and put in a stained wood piece. one block. At the very least I would definitely get rid of all that wood framing.
The quick and dirty. Probably the most trusted voice on this stuff, with exceptions that they don't focus on product lifespan and failures/repair/warranty/etc.
i wanted to flag this deal on the best current TV on the market: https://slickdeals.net/f/14906714-7...r-less-w-sd-cashback-free-s-h-more?v=1&page=8 my samsung q9fn broke a couple of weeks ago and i had started browsing for a replacement. figured i'd go for another led/samsung as they're nice and bright for my living room but i couldn't pass up this deal. 77" lg oled + $400 visa gift card + 2.5% cash back through slick deals + 2yr warranty. https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/best/by-size/70-75-77-inch
Anyone ever use a VPN on their smart TV/roku? I can do thing with technology, but never set up a VPN....and with a smart TV
My TCL TVs are still performing quite nicely. Our Vizio has shit the bed. Vizio is in the living room but luckily we don’t really watch tv in there much so I’m not in a hurry to replace it. Most tv watching is in the basement or the living room.
My TCL Roku died about a month after the 1-year warranty expired, which sucks. But they replaced it anyway, which is great.
My people with TLC tvs....does you TV ever stay connected and remember the WiFi? Almost every time I turn on my TV I have to go into the settings and reconnect to wifi. Is there a simple fix?
Never had that problem and my TLC get unplugged from power all the time as I move it from inside to outside.
Sometimes it reconnects on its own, but like 75% it forgets the connection. I haven't seen a place to save anything
Never had an issue and mine floats around the house getting unplugged all time. It even grabbed the new router the other day when not everything did.
Got a Samsung tv almost 3 years ago and now have a black cloud in the middle of the screen. Google search showed it’s a common problem and I’m apparently lucky it took this long for it to appear.
With Costco, Best Buy, Amazon etc all lowering the LG 65" OLED CX to $1850 I'm thinking about scooping. This would be the TV we watch by far most of the time in the living room. This is a good purchase from those who have one or what?
Good stuff gents. With the Costco 4% cash back you can basically get $80 back using the Costco card too. That purchase pays for the executive membership alone there in cash back and then some.
Only thing I would suggest is adding a 4k blu ray player or something, streaming 4k is fine but with that tv the physical stuff looks insane.
I have a 65” C9 in my living room right now and it’s far. I have a Sonos Beam and 2 Sonos One SLs for quasi surround and it’s an incredible pairing.
Yeah I want to update some Sonos speakers in my house also. Have the older Playbar and Sonos 1s. Also have a Beam too but want to get the Arc and new One SLs.
I want a larger living room tv and I thought the wife would go for this as a way to do so, but she says I have to wait for the other tv to die first. I'm watching on the sidelines for now. I was a little disappointed when they dropped the 32" frame model. That seems like a good sweet spot, especially for people who want multiple tvs on a wall without looking like a mancave.
I bought the 65” CX in October and it’s a great TV. Have both PS5 and Series X hooked up to it and both are awesome.
Just finishing up our family room and kitchen renovation, so I have to buy a new tv and wall mount this week for the family room. TV will be above the mantle, with the bottom of the TV about 5 feet off the ground and the top around 8 feet from the ground. Couch will be around 8 feet away from the center of the where the tv will go. According to RTING, we should look at 55” TVs, and i can go a little bigger if necessary. We get a decent amount of sunlight in that room, especially in the afternoon, so that’s also a consideration. Looking to get a Sonos soundbar. TV will have to be mounted in both drywall and brick, so that’s also a thing. Haven’t bought a TV since December 2010. Should be fun.
Eh, like $2k I guess? Don’t really have budget in mind, but I’d like to keep it around $2k I guess. Edit: can def go above $2k for sure. Just throwing a number out there.
You oughta be able to get one badass 55" tv for $2k. I'm looking for similar with literally 1/4 that budget
Fair enough. I was more thinking about $2k in total, including sound bar and mount that can be used on brick.
Get a masonry bit and a mount a couple 2x4s to the wall. Can use any mount you’d like after that. If you have access to hammer drill it could be a 20 minute project.
I’d save some cash and do a cheetah mount from Amazon. I’ve got 4 holding various tv’s and they are all fine. They also don’t care what your mounting surface is, just use the appropriate anchors.
Shouldn’t be an issue, just makes wiring a bit of a bitch but that’s going to happen with any brick. Might look at the Samsung’s that have the one wire set up if they still do that. Eliminates power, cable, etc behind the tv.
Appreciate all the insight. All the wiring and whatnot was done as a part of our house renovation, so we are good to go there. Sounds like any mount I can make work in brick, so it’s really just about deciding on a tv. Probably just gonna go with a 55” - 65” TCL with the knowledge that I’ll be purchasing a new tv every 5 years or so, regardless of brand. I haven’t purchased a TV since December 2010, so I (obviously) have no idea what I’m doing.
