mixer doesnt have quite the population. tho Prof Broman said last week that mixer will soon be the way to go, or youtube, or even facebook, because Twitch isnt pulling in many NEW viewers.
If YouTube gaming takes off its numbers will be huge. Apparently twitch is incredibly unreliable and slow in non first world countries and YouTube streams faster and better quality.
Video quality doesn’t matter, content creators matter, and twitch has that by a large margin and will continue to do so because they have made a point to take care of streamers.
OW world cup had like 500k+ viewers at one point about a month ago, so yeah. Their Contenders series only had 15-50k though, so I guess it is a mixed bag. I have a feeling the OWL will pull in a bunch of viewers by offering in game rewards e.g. lootboxes or skins. Unfortunately, the OW spectator system is garbage. Needs an option to choose a certain player's POV, or get better "cameramen" to know when to switch during big moments. They also ditched a traditional Blue vs red format and went with a white team vs team color for all in game abilities. Result is washed out colors and a hard to follow experience (coming from someone with 1000s of hours playing).
I thought team skins were great and really helped to keep up with what was going on. A lot of the whites do look weird, Seoul especially. Still, I think they're on the right track with them. Most of the colored ones were really nice.
Most abilities seemed nearly invisible (winston bubble, projectiles, etc). And things such heal beam from mercy was indistinguishable from damage beam. If they had team colors for SKINS only, I think it would be better. But white health bar on white skin on white outline = no idea what the fuck is going on
They have the overhead indicator for lucio's aura....maybe they could do something similar for mercy?
Or just make abilities the correct color. The spectator mode should mirror the actual game imo. Team colors are fine, but random color abilities throws me off. I also think white should only be used when two teams have similar primary colors. The white just sucks. Not enough contrast.
or just get rid of white for everyone who doesn't actually have white as a color. all teams have multiple colors right? think that would be everyone except fucking Seoul
Sherrif Eli and Milton have been playing Escape from Tarkov, as a team, but you have no idea who is on your team so they've been killing each other.
my point here is they should make some tutorial videos to play between rounds and shit. maybe have the players talking about the heroes and what they can do. shit like that. watching overwatch from the perspective of someone who doesn't play a lot must be rough. they need to get overcome that somehow.
Yeah, that would definitely help new players figure out what's going on, but if they plan on airing like 10 games per week, those tutorial videos might get old. In general though, MOBA type games (and OW has a lot of MOBA elements) are hard to follow unless you have an understanding of the game. I imagine their target demographic will be current players which means they're going to advertise the shit out of skins/lootboxes.
On this point -- Did you watch that meme tournament with Kephrii and loserfruit, etc? I think that's the way to target new players. Fun game modes like TDM mixed with competitive. It's actually fun as hell watching all the bizarre no-limits strategies. The 1 v 1s sucked because of the camping, but everything else was pretty solid.
been kinda disappointed. too many random obscure games and not enough classics. I get that the runners control what gets played and this thing is gonna draw huge numbers no matter what, but I find myself tuning out way more than I did in previous years because I have no interest in the game being played
Yeah, was watching some car game named Burnout the other day. Never heard of it, had no idea what was going on. Is there a schedule of games posted? I did like watching Resident Evil last night. That Nemesis game took me a few weeks to beat in middle school and they mastered it in like an hour.
Gonna have to get a replay of that Battle Toads run. Could only ever get past the super bike stage on ocasion. Did beat the game once, though.
Yea...for 24 hours for 7 days. It’s been going on for 5+ years now. It’s not just a one day event in the winter and summer..
Ok. And I would rather see a bunch of the games most of us grew up playing be ran rather than mostly random games that 99%of people never heard of. I get you have to fill hundreds of hours of time, but at the same time you don’t need to overdue the obscure games.
I mean they play every major old game, every gdq. Those are terribly boring to watch since it’s the exact same run and tricks everytime.
