Roper is wasting a lot of skill talent. It’s not debatable and inexcusable. Our line hasn’t been good but our receivers and backs are good enough that we should be able to mask that. Bentley has all the tools and Roper is a fucking retard. Anyone defending him at this point is dumber than he is so not even worth debating.
I’m not excusing his mistakes by any means, he needs to figure out his overexcitement issues but a good OC should be able to coach through that.
What delusion? I don’t think we should be great by any stretch but we certainly have the skill talent to produce more offensively than we have over the past two years.
You just argued that our skill positions are able to overcome the poor offensive line. Our talent is average at best. We have a bunch of guys who try hard but none of them are elite.
Jake Bentley and our receivers, yes. Our backs, no. But the backs have so clearly been misused it’s ridiculous. They’ve had to fight through poor blocking but making a 180 lb back go up the middle should be against the 8th amendment.
That’s how it works. That’s why you’re being delusional with a lot of our fan base thinking there is a quick fix.
I don’t think it’s a quick fix, I think there are obvious flaws that don’t have to be incredibly difficult to change. I’m sorry that you’ve been so beaten down into submission that just take this. It’s not your fault.
2 years ago, this team was 3-9 and lost to Citadel at home. The team is now 7-3, which is remarkable. The OL has to be upgraded and it is that simple. The talent just isnt there. There is zero movement or change in the line of scrimmage most of time in favor of SCAR. If SCAR had the talent of an Auburn or UGA, then you have a right to be pissed off. Football games are won upfront, but is also the longest to develop. It isnt a quick fix where you can plug in a kid like a skill player. It takes 2-3 years for kids to be strong enough to actually contribute against elite DLs in SEC. Even with no one respecting our play actions bc we cant run the ball, Roper still has WRs running wide ass open. Bentley hasnt hit them. The talent level was so bad across the team that a backup D2 RB at place I ga'd at transferred at started at SCAR on SPT Spurriers last year. It was Paulks brother, the midget running around on kickoff. Champ has been amazing turning around program in short amount of time, but look how long it took Clemson to get over the hump when all they had was skill players when Dabo took over. Lineman takes years with redshirt and being in weightroom.
Like I said, Roper has clearly shown improvement. He’s found things that have worked in the running game. A lot of the issues have been inconsistency in the line due to injuries and some basic execution issues from Bentley...but that third down and fourth down short yardage playcalling where we’ve predictably run it right up the middle is frustrating as shit. We have rarely executed those runs all year. He had some good calls today off of those looks running jet sweep with Hurst and with the play action though so I can’t really be that mad about it...at some point you just have to win up there. We’re moving in the right direction.
All 4th down calls go through head coach and he says yes or no... i didnt agree either, but Boom gave go ahead.
Everything you said is true and heartwarming. Muschamp has done a great job with this program and developing defensive players. Dabo needed to make a complete change in offensive philosophy and hire a new coordinator before they turned a corner. He did an incredible job of that and I think Muschamp can do the same.
But he did that when he actually had talent and they weren't producing. If SCAR was like that, Champ would changes and he should. Football is more than just WRs QBs and RBs. Look at Auburn completley shutting down UGA. They are doing it upfront. I just dont think it is fair to judge when the talent isnt SEC level. I know that isnt what you want to hear, but you are thinking football is just 7 on 7.
So yeah I think we can safely say now that the SEC East is by far the worst division in football. Just a terrible division. You did not comprehend what it takes in developing an OL unit or where current OL talent level is and how that affects play calling at so I was not sure.

Florida had 61 plays for 301 yards (4.9 ypp - better than average for us) 210 of those yards came on 7 plays. Rest of the game they were 54 plays for 81 yards (1.5 ypp) I get why Muschamp has such a hard on about “explosives” now
You make these absolute statements about my comprehension of football, it’s fascinating. You seem to know me better than I. I understand that it takes time to develop an offensive line and how that clearly affects play calling but our play calling is nonsensical from that standpoint. We call a power play with a small back when we have a big back sitting on the sideline. We have the tools to make things work but they aren’t being used properly. Turner has finally been used properly the past two weeks and he’s had the best two games of his career. We didn’t suddenly drastically mature on the line, we just used what we have the way it needs to be used.
But really though, it was always dumb to call turner up the middle. He’s good in space, shoving him up Alan Knott’s ass has never been a viable playcall.

Competition doesn't matter, any team with a pulse has shut running game down. Not sure how you cant or wont see that. UGA, Texas A & M, NC State. I dont care if Lattimore or Derek Watson was back there, whatever scheme we ran wouldnt matter bc of personnel we have upfront.
