Some info I'm looking for: Latest on Doty this week? Latest on Kevin Harris this week? Any of our commits showing out in their HS season so far?
Doty is practicing but Beamer won't say who is starting Saturday which makes me think it's Doty and he's just being coy Kevin Harris should be back 100% Saturday Not sure
My info comes from TBs, so grain of salt. Doty still feels some discomfort, but feels like he can go play normally on saturday. I'd expect gametime decision and maybe even a split game depending on score. Harris is full go, held out of practice and EIU due to level of opponent and precaution. Recruits, I don't follow as much because of the winding road that is recruiting. Delp had to be impressed with our TE usage in the game. I think if Zeb had a full spring and summer with the wr and OL things would run a little smoother.
Watson is starting law school this fall. I won't say where but up north, out of state. Getting a late start but oughta be good at the arguing thing. Tilly and Ark both attended my bachelor party this weekend and got me way too drunk
And killrbee7 is on his honeymoon judging by Facebook. Beautiful scenery; oh and the countryside looks nice too
The worst chatter on campus today is about that gate crashing shit that went on at the student section entrance. I actually remember that happening back in my day too. When people hear "2001" they kinda just start shoving. But apparently mobile tickets are making it way worse. Gotta clean that up before next game, looked like an ugly scene
From what I understand, he's still recovering from whatever medical/personal issue he had. But yea, just a big body with 0 production so far.
If I want to be charitable, maybe it's a COVID thing with being short staffed or people calling in last minute. But yeah, we usually struggle to manage those type of details
Concessions needs to be sourced out to a competent group. If you want to give local high schoolers and volunteers work, have them work vendors outside of the stadium for inbound/outbound traffic
I went to every game for 20 years straight, then COVID hit and my dad gave up his tix. Didn't get to any last year and not sure about this year
I went to every game up until I got married in 2016 and she just doesn't care for all the people. So I go to 2 or so a year otherwise now.
Just win. I’m all about results now. Beat the teams you’re supposed to beat and be competitive with the teams that have a lot more talent. Keep recruiting at a high level and eventually close the talent gap with UF, UGA, Clemson, etc. After going backwards steadily for the last few years, I just want some forward progress. Our DL can be elite if our LBs and DBs can cover for 3+ seconds.
Allegedly, there were some major security issues. Like I saw on TBS they mentioned a huge brawl that no one responded to and another post at one point they said someone ran out on the field and jumped back into the stands and ran up the concourse and was never stopped.
I thought the back 7 looked really good versus what my expectations were. Pickens, Burch, Enagbare, and Strachan are going to produce a lot of pass rush.
Yikes. I saw a 2 minute video from the Houston-Texas Tech game where people were fighting and no security appearing anywhere. Wonder if this is another nationwide COVID labor shortage issue. (Grasping for straws that USC's not in fact just that dumb)
Hoping ZaQuandre White is just an absolute gamebreaker this season. Plays hard, he's quick...lots of swag. Everything you're looking for in a big play guy.
White/Harris/Lloyd should be a great rotation. DL and RB seem to be our deepest positions. Josh Vann had a decent game. Hard to judge against EIU but we did what we needed to do. Beat ECU.
Watched the game with my dad and we both said the same thing. He was hitting his holes full speed and with aggression. There wasn't too much of the dancing around we came used to seeing with Muschamp. Our OLine looked like total dogshit too, so maybe he was just trying to force his own running lane.
If Doty isn’t 100% healthy, then start the Zeb guy. Let him be a game manager. As long as he doesn’t turn it over or ECU jumps out to a 2 score lead, Pound them with Harris, White, and Lloyd. Prob won’t look great in the first half, as our OL isn’t dominant, but they are much bigger and ECU will wear down. All three of those RB guys can take it to the house on them. They’ll eventually make some game breaking plays and we’ll win ugly. Give Doty time to heal. Maybe let him take some snaps if once we’ve got it locked up so he can make a few “one read” throws. Let Zeb take the start and absolute nightmare beating in front of a night time 80,000 SEC crowd for the first couple of series/1st quarter against UGA. Then get Doty out there so he’s facing his first real defense with no pressure on his shoulders. Might even give our offense a spark (although we gonna lose regardless) to give us a little feel good moral victory heading into our first tough but winnable match up. Spurrier always annoyed us with switching out QBs. But truth was we just weren’t that good offensively regardless and the QBs were not leagues better than each other, but putting the other guy in often gave the offense a big spark, even if we weren’t able to win the game in the end.
Yea, Juju wasn’t slow by any means, but I didn’t notice any kind of crazy burst of acceleration out of him that would separate him from Lloyd or White. Maybe I just wasn’t paying close enough attention to the plays he got, but I’m not sure if he’ll figure into this season much based on what I saw.
Also stop hiring dog shit offensive coordinators and stop running HUNH when your offense is dog shit and you don’t have near the same depth as your opponent. Everyone blamed our strength coach for injuring all our players but I think it was the physical practices and our break neck speed at going three and out on offense that kept our defense out on the field so god damned much that led to most of our injuries.
The offensive line wasn't actually as bad as it looked in the first half in the running game. They were just going very vanilla and running mostly inside zone...there were some misses by the running backs that made the blocking look worse than it was and EIU was sending more people than blockers, which makes Zeb's inability to do anything downfield or look past his first read worse. They were as bad as speculated on the message boards in pass protection though. I thought I saw a lot of whiffs there live and the grading matches that. PFF gave Turnetine a 0 pass block grade and Wonnum one in the 30s, Jaylen Nichols had a similarly poor game in pass protection with a 25.2 grade from PFF. Jovaughn Gwyn and Jakai Moore both had really good games which I would expect out of them. Eric Douglas was solid. Wonnum and Nichols were both really good in the run game despite several whiffs in pass protection, but I think they can clean that up with those guys. Turnetine is dogshit and I'm not sure there's a reason he gets any run outside of just optimism since he's so damn big. He sucks. If it's not Moore-Nichols-Douglas-Gwyn-Wonnum by the end of next week I'll be shocked. Vershon Lee may give Nichols a run for his money as well. He isn't as good in the run game but he was a lot steadier in pass protection.
Getting Doty back should help a lot too because the backside ends for EIU just didn't respect the QB in the run game at all and were crashing hard.
what is PFF? is that something you have to subscribe to? I saw wonnum fuck up several blocks. in general the OL play did not inspire confidence, i don't know if this is fixable or what.
Looking at ECU’s team. They’re young and small on the DL. They’re not very good offensively— young in a lot of spots and a fair portion of their veteran guys are transfers. Since I’m going to watch at home, think I’m prob gonna drop some bar tab money on us covering that -2.5 spread. Regardless of who plays QB.
Prob best you didn’t. Ark and I had no business being on them. Think I might have hit a child but I’m sure he was in the way.
Omega Blake -- anything about him challenging for playing time at WR this year, or probable redshirt? Reasons I think he might be badass: From Rock Hill Cool name
Nah. Looks like the receiver options are the three TEs (Muse, Bell, Jenkins) and these WRs Brooks, Vann, DK, Otre Smith, and A. Brown. If the last game was any indication DK may fall down that list. Most likely replaced by Brown I think. Intrigued to see if Otre Smith has improved his route running and ability to separate.
Football's fun when you're still in contention. I hope we can keep this thread active for a couple weeks
I think we can be a bowl contender for the next two years. Prob going to take a drop off after that though, unless we start recruiting lights out starting like right now (Maybe we are. I haven’t been keeping up with it. Pretty sure last class was garbage).
That’s actually a topic I feel strongly about. Not Brad Scott, but that middling schools like ours fire their coaches too soon…often after giving them big raises when that same coach took the previously fired coach’s veterans to a decent bowl game.
