http://www.orlandosentinel.com/spor...eckton-20171207-story.html?platform=hootsuite “A source told the Sentinel Beckton’s decision came down to his comfort level knowing early on what his role would be with Frost’s new staff in Nebraska. He did not have the same level of clarity about his future at UCF immediately after new coach Josh Heupel was hired Tuesday.”
That sucks. Heupel could have really scored some easy points with the players. They seemed to love him.
So our entire staff is your old staff. A small portion of fans are freaking out about this but most are okay with it simply because it’s Frost and they just went 12-0. If we had hired say Norvell and he brought his entire staff from a G5 school, fans would be going crazy.
Yeah this sucks. Kinda shitty to poach everyone but it is what it is. Stupid of guys to transfer when one more year and you could be a high pick.
Snelson is drama all the time. He'll settle down or he won't. We have a high powered offense with high powered players there's only 1 game in 2018 in worried about at all and it's auburn. We have no coaches who are committed to the bowl game and no staff basically. These kids got abandoned. Frost is nonspecific on how involved he'll be in the bowl and that's a bad sign.
I guess one of our biggest strengths - a bunch of freshman and sophomoress starting, is a double edged sword. Wish we had some some senior leaders to keep everyone's head on straight.
NCAA is just so terribly run that they have policies that encourage all of this in the lead up to post season. Just such a punch to players who give it all (for free) all season.
None of this should be allowed until after bowl games. I mean, that just pushes it to a signing day issue, but to be honest, signing day has kind of turned into a shit show too. College football is a pro league without the burden player salaries now. The whole things got an ugly look to it.
so i guess ucf twitter is turning into Wendy's as of late with all the updates to the name, throwing shade at people who throw us shade, etc. could get interesting if they keep it up and realize it's just social media and they have nothing to lose being funny and semi-dickish.
Says the person who just came off of 3 month leave and...you know....not much going on at UCF this time of year!
I'm a little surprised they kept Cristobal, i like the move as a secondary Ducks fan, but surprised they didn't make a run at Sumlin or Strong.
If UCF hired Cristobal, I would not have been happy. Seems pretty telling that he hasn't gotten a head coaching opportunity since he got canned at FIU
As much as it sucked losing Frost, I feel like it is nothing compared to what Oregon fans just went through. We all knew he wasn't long term and once Nebraska started tanking it was clear the chances were greater than 50% that he was leaving. Oregon just got blind sided by a unexpected opening and perfect fit for their coach.
Was it all about the Oregon opening? After hearing of the buyout for Heupel, I wonder if Sumlin would have had to take the same buyout and that was part of his hesitation. Also wonder if they were pushing Randy Shannon on him and he wanted to hire his own guy for DC.
I know it's only been a couple of days, but how about some assistant coaches. Usually they'd be leaking a couple of hires by now. Makes me wonder if he wasn't at all thinking about becoming a head coach so didn't have a list of guys he wanted ready to go or if his coaching network isn't real deep. Hope it's not that he's a jerk that no one wants to work with.
Everyone take a breath, I think the assistants will come. Anyone who coaches at a high level thinks about becoming a head coach and has ideas about who he wants as assistants. The problem as I see it is the people he knows are likely still preparing for bowl games, and I would imagine a new HC making contact and recruiting assistants who are still employed is a bit more dicey than AD's and University presidents making contact with potential HC's. I guarantee all of Danny's resources are working on identifying and securing assistant coaches, while Heupel and Shannon are working to secure our existing recruiting commitments and hitting the ground running before the early signing period. I'd honestly rather they be doing that than filling out the staff right now.
i just don't really care. i have no control over it, so i'll let it ride. it'll probably be a bit of a shaky start but i think he'll figure it out soon enough. and same for the bowl. we're a great team and the coaches are great. there's some issues obviously with nebraska and all that, but if anyone watched that UCF flix documentary of the champ game and transition to the new coach, or read up the past week on frost's decision, you know that he and the other coaches loved those kids and are real close. i think it will be very hard for them to just say "screw it, i'm at nebraska now, gonna phone it in for the biggest game i've ever coached."
agree with this, in a vacuum the thought of another team's coaches being responsible for the biggest game in school history makes my skin crawl. But given the situation and what people have said about Frost, I think he will give it his all.
We've had one of the youngest OL's in the country the last 2 years and they've been one of the best both years. Last year we had the fewest sacks/TFL in the SEC in like a decade and are top 5 again this year with 2 true freshman starters.
Well that’s a good thing. Our pass pro was good this year but rushing game didn’t have the holes we need.
so if nebraska wins a natl championship we can basically claim that as our right? have our entire staff now.
Half of your staff had Nebraska ties, so this justifies our claiming of your undefeated season as well. This mutual relationship is going to get awkward when we have a home-and-home with you.
A lot of the players told the AD to promote him or they would transfer. The funny thing with Sumlin slow playing is that in the end I don’t think sumlin even got a look, and that is aside from what the players did. They just had zero interest him
