I think I joined rivals when I moved out of Orlando the first time to still talk about UCF with people. I think that was like 2007.
I think I got on Rivals in like 05/06 and remember just posting stupid ass shit in the middle of the night because I had a terrible sleep schedule and overall lifestyle habits.
Unrelated, but we should start a Pitt game thread instead of clogging up this thread with a bunch of random game talk.
From ESPN Pitt typically hangs around in these games In its past five games as a regular-season double-digit underdog, Pitt, which hosts UCF on Saturday, is 4-1 ATS with one outright win and three losses by seven points or fewer. The only game Pitt didn't cover during that span was a 31-point loss at UCF last season as a 13.5-point underdog.
i was gonna say, pretty sure the only time they didn't was us. I really don't know much about Pitt's team but i saw this reddit analysis and hope they don't match up well with hitting deep balls. Spoiler I've watched their games since I have bet on UCF in all 3 of their games this year, but I don't think SEC team is the right description. They remind me of a clone of the Art Briles Baylor teams the way they play on both offense and defense. Offensively they play fast and put defenses in a lose-lose situation. If you play to stop the run you get the ball thrown over your head. If you play to stop the pass they run the ball for 10 yards. If you play to stop the deep pass they throw the easy pitch and catches. If you play to stop the short pass with man coverage they either throw it over your head or run the ball to the edges. I do wonder if the NCAA ever cracks down on lineman downfield on passing plays(they do have a rule, but its not strictly enforced especially when the lineman are only a yard or two downfield) if this would slow this type of offense down a bit. Because a lot of defenses use the lineman's blocking schemes to determine if a play is a run or pass. This is why you see so many teams when they play UCF seem flat footed in the secondary as a UCF receiver blows by them. Because they read run based on how the linemen were blocking. How do you stop this offense? You need to have athletes on defense, especially in the secondary, who can run with the receivers and make it hard on the deep pass. Then you need to have a strong defensive line to disrupt plays before they can develop. Defensively they also play identical to how Phil Bennett ran the Baylor defenses. A lot of run blitzes and defensive line stunts with aggressive man coverage in the secondary. Sell out to the run and stopping the short pass while leaving yourself exposed to the deep ball. The issue is UCF hasn't played a team yet that can throw the ball over their heads(and I don't know if they will) and exploit this defense. It's the 2-3 zone equivalent for college football, where the 2-3 zone weakness is the 3 pointer, UCF's style the weakness is the deep ball. Teams centered around running the ball and short to mid range passes get eaten alive by this type of defense. If you can get the players, what UCF does is a perfect system to use to dominate the competition at their level. It reminds me a lot of when TCU Basketball had Billy Tubbs as the coach, the system he ran was great for destroying bad opponents and the WAC conference. But when you go up against a team with just as good if not better athletes than you? It's a crap shoot. UCF has won one of these games(Auburn 2017) and lost one(LSU 2018). None of the other teams they have played in this stretch measure up in terms of roster talent, and they don't play any teams this year that measure up.
Started on Rivals in 05 or 06 in response to Rivals guys bitching on the band board (which got heated enough that the band board got shut down; rivals was weird)
I was more active there when I didn't have shit to do at work since that's picked up I've been mostly just poking around and talking a little trash to our insufferable baby boomer fans. and then slide back into the shadows for a few days. I don't think I'll ever leave rivals because I'm not from Florida and I don't live in Florida so none of my friends care to talk UCF and I obviously get like no local discussion of UCF and that's about the only active online community.
I tried to log into rivals a few months ago. But since I had 2 handles using the same email address (which they used to allow) they deleted my main account. So all i have is my alt account, WaTableKnight, that I made for the ECU board raid. But there is hardly ever anything worth posting on over there.
Every once in a while when I reach the end of the internet when being an insomniac, I'll go back in there just to see what's going on and its the same people having the same arguments. its like perpetual groundhog day in there. At first glance you wouldn't be able to tell if it is 2009 or 2019
I actually don't understand how the rivals business model even works anymore. Unless you are paying to because you just like Brandon's work as a photographer, any of the "insider info" stuff that you are paying for is pretty much always available for free on mediums like twitter.
He does have some more stuff to offer than what you see on Twitter but you’re not far off. I’m just comfortable with it at this point. His recruiting stuff is usually on point and better than a bunch of assholes on twitter speculating.
Is KnightLight still on there? he would have to have close to a half billion posts by now. Did SadUCFKnight finally off himself?
Especially now since we are good there are more people talking UCF whereas a while Brandon might have been the only person regularly talking about UCF Athletics.
I haven't even glanced to the Fan Forum in years but when I want to lost my faith in humanity I'll glance at the WC and yea...still totally racist.
KL is and is exactly the same. Sad is slightly more tolerable but same bullshit. The board is just absolutely littered with far right nutjobs who inject their idiotic bullshit everywhere into every fight/discussion. Everything is some identity politics garbage for them. It’s insufferable, for the most part. Like I said, I stick to Brandon’s newsworthy posts and leave it at that, for the most part.
I get that, he can get that info because he is around people inside the program and reaches out to recruits, but its not like 20 or even 10 years ago where that info is worth something because it is exclusive. More often then not that type of exclusive content (and I don't just mean his, just in general) is only going to be exclusive for hours or maybe days. If people want to pay to know something the general person doesn't for that small timeframe, that's cool. I didn't care too anymore, I can wait a little bit. Or if people want to pay for access to his photos, I can understand that too. He is a good photographer. exactly what I mean
Wow. Someone finally figured out that we are playing like Baylor on offense. It's only the exact same offense. I wonder what tipped him off? But the Auburn victory was with Frost's version of the Chip Kelly offense, so that doesn't count. I'm sorry, I couldn't help that rant.
Nike: hey Boise, what you want your unis to look like for your game against Air Force? Boise: *clicks on tape from UCF space game* Boise: This
DL getting zero results, and we’re constantly leaving Pickett big ol’ running lanes because of these delayed blitzes trying to get some penetration.
Both lines played like shit. DG showed he is still just an 18 y/o freshman. Heupel made some really dumb play calls late. Shit happens, we’ll move on and roll the rest of the season
Went to the game. Total shit show. Heup was out coached and the game just had this weird feel to it the whole time. Also Pitt fans are dicks, which I found completely strange.
