UCF Hires Gus Malzahn

Chadwell and Lewis would’ve been very good hires imo.

 

Chadwell has had NCAA issues and Lewis looks a lot worse once you dig below very surface level. He was my least favorite of the group.

I also hate the idea of Chadwell’s offense.

 

Does whatever UCF pays Malzahn offset some of what Auburn owes him? Or does his salary come on top of the that money?

 

And yet we somehow didn’t have the most desirable job in the coaching carousel



Auburn owes Malzahn a $21.45 million buyout, half of which was already paid within the first 30 days of his firing, per his contract terms. His contract extension with Auburn, signed in 2017, included no mitigation for Auburn's payout totals should Malzahn take a follow-up job.

Burns was a UCF coach for 10 secs but followed Heupel to Tennessee I think.

 

It looks like Chadwell's only issues with the NCAA were when Charleston Southern improperly certified athletes and allowed football kids to get school supplies at the bookstore instead of limiting them to textbooks. None of that was really his fault

No just a compliance issue with all of Charleston Southern athletics, not just football.

 

If he doesn’t completely ignore OL recruiting for the next 3-4 years again, it should be a good hire.

I don't like or support a re-tread hire that has money in the bank and no motivation to succeed. At least OC hires want to win big for ~3 years to try and get a P5 payday. This is our Charlie Strong hire.

 

I think UCF could have done better, but I still think that's an upgrade from Heupel.

He'll put the same staff back together. This past year has really opened my eyes to how much nepotism and doing what's easiest plays into these things. Fans think they're getting a nationwide search, meanwhile schools just hire whoever they're familiar with. Maybe that's moreso because of COVID idk
