Not sure this makes since b/c Harsin is the best coach in the SEC and will be in the playoffs every year. Sorry to disappoint
True, but we not long ago had NCAA issues of our own and so we’re very gunshy about that stuff. Our penalties are not going to be as soft as your local P5 if we have another run in. That said, I mostly hated the idea of Chadwell’s offense. It’s awful to watch.
*sigh* It’s an upgrade from Heupel, but I’m not happy about it. A lot of the old guard fans are happy because they’re still of the opinion that winning 8-9 games, going to the Boca Ratón Bowl, and having a team with a nice GPA is a huge win. Most of the younger fans are wondering wtf we are thinking.
Gus will do well imo. Easy to recruit, lots of speedy-type athletes to fit the system he wants, and a conference that won’t be nearly the gauntlet he was dealing with. Has to figure out how to develop QBs again before he’ll sniff a good P5 job again, though.
He will have Dillion Gabriel for 2 years and then maybe a dual threat named Mikey Keene. Undersized dual threats but Dillon doesn’t like to run.
This is ultimately what doomed him at Auburn. You can overcome deficiencies elsewhere with his dual threat hurry up offense, and when he tried to go to some sort of traditional pocket pass shotgun offense everything started going to shit.
The best collegiate offenses Gus ever put together (at the Harvard of the Plains, the University of Tulsa) had immobile pocket passers. I think he can make that work if he's forced to.
By C-USA standards we had a bonkers OL. He also had senior QBs that had been in the program for 4 years each for both of his teams at TU.
With the way Gus runs his backs into the ground it’s probably a good thing for MAR’s long term future
