It’s a tale as old as time: highly rated WR signs with Guz Malzahn team then proceeds to be pigeonholed as the “speed sweep guy” or the “deep ball guy”. Either way, he receives 4 touches per game and drastically underachieves his talents.
I mean you aren’t wrong here…. It’s a new policy for UM this year. All recruits are being told that they are expected to shut it down after committing. Quan took a visit, he was told his spot is no longer reserved. Whether that’s the smart way to do recruiting, idk. But that’s what they are doing.
This really makes no sense b/c there were a ton of rumors of bad blood between him and Gus. Had a fake QB competition, gave Bo Nix the job undeservingly, possibly b/c Bo was white, all the players on the team thought Gatewood was the better option, Gus promised to use Joey in games but then screwed all that up b/c Gus is a smoothed brain dipshit
If he is cool being a vet backup is the only way it makes sense to me. We have a top QB the next 2 seasons but nothing with experience after him.
IIRC Big Kats mom was on Twitter not that long ago saying it was racist boosters telling Gus to play the white kid or he’d be fired. She deleted the tweet, and I don’t see how that’d be true at Auburn who’s had black QBs before, but passing it along since it might be some sort of shared sentiment?
By his 4th year in college he should have at least made enough progress in the weight room to be a problem in the running game. I always thought he ran afraid of contact here though. He didn't convert 3rd/4th and short nearly as easily as he should have. He's probably got little to no hope as a passer with Gus, but I guess you never know with his scheme.
He played some WR/TE in high school. I wouldn’t mind letting him take a shot at TE for us. That room isn’t very deep and we could use some more athleticism there next year.
I didn't follow too much at Auburn but seems like they had reasons to be frustrated (but it seems clear it was mostly their toxic booster culture that was the problem). It also seems quite likely they hired a worse coach and so they can be right in wanting Gus gone but still be wrong overall.
Being not wrong about firing a coach and then hiring a shittier coach is bad It's so much worse if the guy you fired is still winning somewhere else
Oh I know but it is funny they may have picked one of the worse possible replacements. Maybe he will be a hell of a game day coach but his program building steps so far leave everything to be desired. That was a firing that I think both parties are happy with.
I still remember that 2012 CUSA champ game, which was supposed to be the coronation of Jax Beach Bars King Blake Bortles.
