Growth remains sluggish versus the West. The majority of businesses I talk to are seeing flat growth and a lack of investment. Post Brexit there was a flurry of foreign companies taking advantage of weak sterling and hedging against a hard Brexit, buying up UK firms. I don’t see the same now.
David Davis has resigned as Brexit secretary, shattering the hard-won consensus around Theresa May’s Chequers deal and plunging her government into crisis. His resignation was swiftly followed by that of fellow Department for Exiting the EU ministers Steve Baker and Suella Braverman. It forces May to reshuffle her government, at the same time as trying to convince backbenchers to support her plan. https://www.theguardian.com/politic...avis-resigns-as-brexit-secretary-live-updates
there's talks of a vote of no confidence. may's government is in rooins. and lmao our special fucking president is visiting this week. prime minister corbyn soon
Britain absolutely has to go through with this still right? It seems odd that the faces that were out in front of this have gradually receded back into the weeds. I wonder why
A lot of tension today. May has been continuously delaying her planned announcement all day. She still might speak at any moment...
A complete embarrassment for the UK. We’re edging towards a second referendum. Plenty of people quietly very pleased about how Ireland pushed the UK around on this.
As much as I fucking hate him, Putin really is a smart motherfucker. With a minimal investment in facebook and twitter trolls / ads / etc. and hacking a couple of servers, he's managed to saddle the Europeans / English with this clusterfuck and the US with Donald fucking Trump.
Ehhhh there's a lot more than just Russian shitposting that led to Trump. The shitposting is an extremely minor portion of it.
look through this thread at some of the posters - whom we'd otherwise deem as reasonable, sensible - that were openly vouching for Brexit; for Putin's aim at disrupting the post-WWII order; for enacting/accelerating upheaval + chaos throughout Europe. Its fucking asinine that any American could be in favor of Brexit. You'd have to be against America, against Peace, and just a far right extremist to want a Brexit outcome. God damn scary how little effort it took to stem that sort of chaos and division of opinion.
Conservatism has failed to lead no matter the corner of the planet. Teetering on right wing extremism. What an embarrassing period in history.
Actually this is quite split. The Left and Corbyn are being as duplicitous on this as the Tories. There are plenty of Conservatives against Brexit.
This has been great to watch. Hope it ends up in hard brexit with no deal and the UK economy is in shambles.
I think the only way there is a hard Brexit is if she runs the clock down to get her deal through and it doesn’t. Not clear that she can actually do that (a vote has be taken by Jan 21st) but she has lied before. Looks like she is about to be toppled though. Ireland, France, Germany, Brussels and the rest of Europe further humiliated her today. There isn’t a majority in parliament for a hard Brexit. There’s probably 80 ideologues and a further 50 or so simpletons (who claim to be defending democracy) who will allow it.
Right, this is what I was envisioning. She tries to make a power play to get her deal done and like everything else, she fucks it up.
That’s been rumored but there’s already more letters gone in against her and after today it looks like the EU won’t budge. Herself and the UK are humiliated but at some point Parliament takes over.
They need 48 letters to trigger a Vote of No Confidence in her leadership. This is internal to the Tory party only - meaning that if a majority of Tory MPs want her out there would be a new leader and PM, assuming that the DUP support it.
Sometimes its nice to see people get what they deserve. The people that voted for Brexit are the ones that are going to be hurt most by it.
