As a FSU fan who did this same thing with Taggart let me tell you how its worked out so far...
just saw the new thread title, nice
seems pretty cognizant and open about what went wrong at the end of his Texas run
did not realize that Butch is 67 too, that man ages well
looks like everybody's been dumped so far minus Thig, Scott, and Gillespie, and unsurprisingly all indications are Thig will be retained
it's kinda funny/sad how I don't even recognize the names of these kids who have decommitted so far, Brandon Harrington being the latest
Congrats on getting Tim Brewster
excited for some 'cruit poaching
Good first step.
Any updates on IC to this thread?
Greg Davis has been contacted by Mack about the OC job
I joked this would happen and sure enough Mack is getting the band back together.
Sources with direct knowledge tell FootballScoop Mack Brown is hiring Greg Robinson to be North Carolina’s defensive coordinator.
This will be Robinson’s third tour of duty for Brown. He coordinated Brown’s defense at Texas in 2004 and 2013.
This will be the second familiar name to join Brown’s UNC staff, as former Texas staffer Tim Brewster left Texas A&M to re-join Brown on Wednesday.
In 2004, Robinson (along with Dick Tomey) was hired to re-vitalize the Texas defense and instantly succeeded, helping the Longhorns to a 12-1 reason — the one loss coming 12-0 to Oklahoma — with a Rose Bowl victory.
That success led Robinson to the head coaching job at Syracuse, where he remained from 2005-08.
After two seasons at Michigan and one working with a high school program in California, Robinson returned to the game in 2013 after Brown fired Manny Diaz mid-season. Robinson helped turned the tide of the season, as Texas rebounded to play Baylor for the 2013 Big 12 championship in the final game of the regular season.
Brown resigned after the 2013 campaign, and Robinson would go on to spend the 2014-15 campaigns as the defensive coordinator at San Jose State.
Robinson has been out of the game for the past two seasons
oh man. not sure whether to laugh or cry for tarheel fans.
Well they’re certainly getting the full Mack Brown experience.
When is Akuna announced?
Pls say Maddog is the new strength coach
Do you want me to die?
yea but what if Mack hires Tom Herman as a grad assistant again?
Wow. At least Brewster is a good coach. My goodness, bringing Robinson back as your DC.
Poor North Carolina fans.
This is from the IC admin:
This might be the first scoop that IC missed out on simply because we couldn't believe it ...
its real and its a neat deal
Tobias your thoughts?
He’s probably going to drive directly into a bridge embankment on his drive back from Michigan when he hears. I would.
trust in mack folks
Still that hammered? Probably shouldn’t be driving.
It's important to remember that since this season, Greg Robinson has spent as many seasons as an assistant high school coach as he has as an (interim) DC at a Power 5 program.
can we just rewind to yesterday and start again from there please
a couple years ago when manny diaz' defense gave up 500 yards rushing by taysom hill, he brought in greg robinson. to his credit, the defense actually improved.
that's all i can add. this is just so, so sad.
#North Carolina State Wolfpack is there any concern about clark flipping? saw that mack had breakfast with him and his dad today and the visit apparently went pretty well
him and reich were essentially told they no longer had an offer
Not really been mentioned on our sites. He's got a lot of UNC connections so he'll definitely listen but it would seem like a tough sell given that he won't have relationships with most of your staff.
I mean probably. He was a UNC lean early in his recruitment for the usual reasons. He’s supposed to have his OV with us this weekend so I’d imagine he’ll either no show and flip eventually or we’ll get him locked up and sign him in the early period.
Gerg fucking Robinson, huh?
Tobias PackPride guy just posted about Clark. in short he said Doeren spoke with him right after Mack left today and that they don't think he's wavering at all because he's super close with our committed class right now and appreciates how long State has been recruiting him.
Obviously, anything can happen in recruiting.
dre bly is the new DB coach hell yeah
looks like Robinson's the co-dc with Thig, maybe just a grooming process? still pretty shitty though
Co-defensive Coordinators sounds like a headache.
Not impressed yet. That said, co-DC's is MUCH better than a combination O-line coach/O-coordinator.
Worked out well for UF when urban took over
Had one of them been retired/coaching high school more seasons out of the past 7 than he'd been coaching college football at the time of hire
Also, Thigpen isn't exactly known as a coach and I'm not sure Robinson is the guy you want "grooming" him.
Avatar matched up perfectly with this.
yeah, I don't know how else to spin it though
This was posted a couple of days ago when someone asked about Clark flipping, and no idea how credible it is.
"LOL. Clark just had labrum surgery and will be doing his rehab in Raleigh. He's also already gotten his room at College Inn, and his roomates picked out. He will enroll in less than a month. UNC has no DLine coach, No coordinator and Clark doesnt even know who Mack is... yeah im sure he will flip lol."
feel like people who type lol when they aren't really laughing out loud are really disingenuous and not to be trusted
Don’t even get me started on the people who still have attached asses but say lmao
Alright here's the deal, everybody sucks at defense nowadays anyway, so really all that matters is the OC hire
I am back on track
