Two big games left; let's get to bowl eligibility. Stats again weren't bad (especially on offense) but we tripped all over our own dick. It takes time to rid the program of the losing mentality from Fedora and UVA has been building towards this for years now. Would much rather these results year one than Bronco Mendenhall's Y1 taking over for London. IDK, trying to put a positive spin zone on this result. You guys still ready to give Bateman that HCIW that folks in here were calling for after the Clemson game?
still catching up on the thread but bwall thinks puff did commit and that guy is actually friends with mando so maybe
Corey Evans with the UNC cb, Ben says he's heard positive chatter Evan Daniels grab a bat you're on deck
rell’s update saying puff has to make a decision very soon makes it sound like it should happen today still super early out there
I definitely want to maintain some continuity in the coaching staff and let these guys continue to build. Still bullish on both but was surprised how much UVA gashed us. On to Pitt.
Tbh though my thoughts on Bateman were more along the lines of I would like to see him prove to be worthy of being the next head coach, as I feel he has that potential and he'd also be someone I think we could hang on to. Didn't necessarily mean I wanted to tag him as HCIW already, the ideal scenario would see him getting a chance at a G5 program first, although that's a lot to squeeze in during Mack's maybe 5 years or so here.
Longo’s offense continues to fascinate me. It’s obvious he’s a huge proponent of using the long ball to set up the run and you can’t deny that when it’s rolling it really seems to work. We consistently have guys running open on deep routes and Sam has been very accurate for a true freshman. On the flip side it seems like MC and JV are gashing guys up the guy for the 5, 8, 12 yard gains on a regular basis. Somehow it just hasn’t quite translated into as much production as you might expect. Despite playing a decently tough OOC schedule, we are 4th in the league in offensive yards per game (and per play) but only 8th in the league in scoring.
Offenses like that bog down in the redzone and also if you arent hitting the deep ball it leads to loaded boxes. Honestly that is the biggest jump Elliott had to do as a play caller because he no longer could call plays based on numbers. Longo will learn but it takes time as a play caller.
Yeah think thats definitely part of it. At the same time part of the blame has to fall on the unbelievable number of easy passes our best WRs have dropped. Completely agree on the red zone aspect though.
I think what the OL's shown in the run game the last few weeks is a really good sign for potential red zone efficiency down the road at least
BRob's in a boot riding a scooter and Roy says he thinks it's really serious Buckle up, this Nov/Dec turbulence will be real, hell probably January a bit too. Think when things do start to click this could be one of the better passing teams we've had though, and thank fucking God a guy like Cole will be running the show, although if he goes down God I will be blaming you so damn hard.
Let’s go Roy. Honestly I don’t bother following b-ball recruiting because it works. Our last nattys we had lower ranked guys.
what a class. perfect mix of elite and 2-4 year guys now just throw the kitchen sink at ziaire in the spring
I'd absolutely listen and probably subscribe to the argument that Puff's a better fit in this class than Thompson would be due to that mixture
Ready to watch some disjointed offense and poor 3 point defending. Guessing Pierce will get the start in place of BRob, hopefully these extra minutes help shake off the timidness we saw Friday a bit quicker. Grind out this win on the boards.
Also what’s the deal with Manley? Is he going to play this year or red shirt and try to get the knee right?
gun to my head i dont think we ever see him play another game his knees seem like they are shot and he's gonna be buried on the depth chart next year (especially if bacot comes back). could be a medical hardship or transfer really hope i am wrong because i think he is our most talented big and has incredible size and skill but knee injuries for bigs don't usually end well
Yikes. Really sucks. He was a revelation his freshman year. Also our front court depth is highly suspect this year. Going to need brooks to carry a load.
pierce at the 4 will be a thing. leaky would be a very good small ball 4 as well but this is once again where the seventh loss hurts. tough for him to back-up the four and the point
the way roy talks about this team makes me a bit nervous. we'll figure it out by february i am sure but its gonna be rough at points pierce looked like a d2 player on friday. with the wing injuries, we really need that to be first game jitters and him to step up. being nervous doesnt explain how slow he was tho keeling gotta hit the ground running too. or just have cole do cole things and drag us through non con play
double digit spread for this game makes no sense and seems like free money. would not be surprised at all to see us lose outright tonight
I don't think Pierce is slow, his movements actually look pretty crisp to me, I think when he got in the lane he either had no idea what he wanted to do or his thought processing just slowed down, which still isn't great but fixable with more experience.
I will never doubt Roy’s ability to get his teams playing well by tourney time but I’ve never understood the hype and rankings for this team. This is some of the least depth I’ve ever seen on a Roy team. Wes Millers walk on brother is probably going to get non garbage time minutes, Andrew platek is playing 10+ a game. Somehow we are still Vegas’ 6th or 7th best odds to win the Natty which blows my mind unless CBB is truly that down this year. To try to end on a positive note, if the hype is to be believed, Cole may be the best PG Roy has ever coached and we all know how important that role is in our system. Additionally I have no idea what to expect out of Bacot but if we are truly final four caliber I think either he or Brooks is going to need to outperform expectations.
tbh I think Cole will go down as the best pg Roy's ever coached and my hope is his ability shortens the learning curve for this team, but while depth *should* improve along the way as we get guys back, it's definitely still a case of this team going as far as he takes them also yes CBB is almost perpetually down now making years like these easier
i see roy’s concerns about this team. gonna be ugly to start need something from harris and francis to help at point
things come to a grinding stop without cole pierce looks like he belongs but keeling doesn’t. gonna be some massive growing pains
