Scary to imagine how this team would look if Cole didn't come along, I guess Seventh would still be here but he would've probably wound up being the scapegoat for a really bad season which would've been pretty unfortunate.

Is criswell going to stick at QB or does he have potential at another spot? If he’s pure QB I’m not super worried about losing him since he’d likely just be depth for Sam for the next couple years. Edit: didn’t realize he was an elite 11 guy. Probably a long term qb.

yeah, Howell's starting as long as he's here and healthy, but you still want a QB every class and Criswell's a good one we have one scholarship QB backing Sam up at the moment and he's injured
I get that mentality but I also feel like it might be a little outdated. So many QBs today come in out of high school capable of starting it seems like it’s tough to recruit over top of the guy who is the presumptive starter. I wouldn’t mind sprinkling in a Nathan Elliot type the year following a big time guy like Howell. Honestly I guess UGA is a good example both ways. Fromm came in and took over after the Eason injury but then they managed to lose Fields (and effectively any depth they could have gotten from that recruiting year).
Yeah it's a tricky situation now and staffs are kind of damned if you do, damned if you don't. Guess the best way to handle it is to be as upfront as possible so the kid has realistic expectations when coming in. In this specific case I'm pretty sure I've seen Criswell talk about understanding the likelihood that he'll have to wait his turn.
The other variable here is no matter how good Howell looks I don’t think he will go to the NFL early due to his measurables. I think when you have a guy like Lawrence at Clemson it’s a lot easier to recruit a guy for the next cycle since it’s basically come in, redshirt, one year as backup and then you’re the starter. Realistically Criswell likely isn’t going to start before his redshirt junior year.
