ic is convinced that people being fed up with fedora is leading to recruits reading it and deciding to look elsewhere
just helped the poor guy out with an up vote so he's at -29 now anyone that doesnt have a great and complimentary opinion of things is automatically a duke or state troll apparently.
Yea I’ve always loved that. I’m sure some recruits, and definitely parents, read recruiting message boards but the idea of that impacting an eventual LOI is absurd.
nas little's dad was posting on our board about how he doesnt give a good gosh darned about the optics from the fbi investigation so i'm sure people will shape up now on the bball board
fwiw i would still be surprised if wilson flipped since he's been so adamant about recruiting for us and firm with his pledge but i honestly won't be bothered much if he does at this point. fedora's class imploding will just be another tick mark against him which will ultimately be better for the program than getting a few good recruits and wasting them
Think Fedora's already living on borrowed time, even if that time is a few years, and I'd rather see recruiting stay at a certain level so we're not stuck with a UVA level rebuild for the next coach.
sorry everyone but sources are telling buck sanders that larry is about to be turned into dabo 2.0 Spoiler So, where are we regarding UNC football? What’s the plan? What’s going to happen? What’s the way forward? Having spoken to multiple UNC PTB’s (for the uninitiated, Powers-That-Be), and exploring other angles and sources, here’s what I’ve found. First, Larry Fedora isn’t going anywhere at the end of this season. He’s in the first year of a seven-year deal. There’s the buyout to consider, $17 million this year. In addition, all I have spoken to have an appreciation for the attrition experienced last season combined with the highly unusual number of injuries experienced this year, in both cases, concentrated on the offensive side of the ball. Then there is the acknowledgment that recruiting isn’t all that it could have been because of the NCAA cloud. There’s also appreciation among the PTB’s for the fact that Fedora runs a clean program, does things the right way, “recruits families,” wants to be at UNC, and has integrity. Dismiss out of hand any “hot seat” rumors. They aren’t true. That said, all of my sources have heard from an angry mob of folks, including donors, that just aren’t happy. They aren’t all necessarily after Fedora’s head, but they all want to know just what UNC is going to do to fix this. Universally, everyone I’ve spoken to knows that North Carolina needs an offensive line coach whose sole focus is the offensive line. The second area of universal agreement is that there needs to be an offensive coordinator whose sole job it is to be the offensive coordinator, that there needs to be one guy in charge of calling plays, and one guy only, and everyone needs to know who that is. North Carolina is on the verge of signing a new deal with Nike and is also signing a new deal on radio broadcast rights. IMG and Learfield are merging, and UNC is going to have a new deal with the merged company. Both deals will bring in more dollars – substantially more – than they are currently getting. We’re talking multiples of the current contracts. One source said that they are prepared to “Dabo” Fedora, a reference to Clemson surrounding head coach Dabo Swinney with assistants bringing in top dollar in college football in their profession. They are willing to do the same for Fedora – provide him access to the best assistants available at whatever salaries the market dictates. One source stated that UNC would be willing to increase the current amount of money being spent on assistants' salaries by $2 million dollars a year or more. Another said that they would be willing to pay “the right person” $1 million a year for the offensive coordinator position alone. Based on those conversations, it appears that UNC is prepared to offer competitive salaries to surround Fedora with the best staff available. There is a general consensus that the defense is trending in the right direction. There’s little to no dissatisfaction with the staff on that side of the ball, and no impetus to make changes there. All the angst, currently, is about the offensive side of the ball and the necessity of making moves there. Regardless, whatever or whoever Fedora needs in terms of assistants, they are prepared to provide. Nothing, meanwhile, is going to happen until the end of the season. These conversations will take place after the season is over. The thought here is that Fedora has enough on his plate right now. Clearly, there is truth to that statement. Once those conversations take place, the trick will be getting Fedora on board with the necessity of change. It is no secret that Larry Fedora is extremely loyal, or that he can be extremely stubborn, and nothing any of my sources told me refutes this perception. It is also known that the changes that are seen to be the most pressing – offensive line, offensive coordinator – would impact the person closest to Fedora on the entire staff, Chris Kapilovic. No one expressed the sentiment that specific changes would be mandated from above, only that the necessity of making changes has become abundantly clear. The consensus of opinion is that there are severe risks to the program, both in terms of fan and donor allegiance, if this season limps to what seems certain to be a losing-season finish and no changes are made ahead of the 2018 season. In terms of program perception, which affects ticket sales, recruiting, donations, and all other aspects of the health of the program, changes must be made after the type of season UNC is having, if for no other reason. The good news is that the finances will be there to fund whatever changes need to be made, and those funds are joined with the willingness of the PTB’s to spend whatever is necessary./spoiler]
i'm still cracking up at "guys what if we just hired a bunch of assistants and turned fedora into dabo. has anyone ever thought of such a plan?!?"
Fuck his moral support, do whatever you can to keep the ship from sinking until we can afford to dump him Also sets a precedent for the next staff with how much they're willing to spend on assistants.
I had a dream I got into a car accident last night but I used my scars to get pity from the chicks Zack Morris style
about to hop in a car for the drive up for the morgue or riot that will be 2017 late night so i will be here to spin zone the sanctions on the other side, gentlemen
A guy on our rivals board is pretty connected to the ACC Office and basically said UNC had agreed to take loss of ‘ships and post season bans but if the NCAA tried to touch any banners UNC was going to court over it. So the NCAA had to decide if they felt like dragging this out more and risk UNC winning, which would undermine the entire existence of the NCAA. So that’s more what I’m expecting than any title vacations.
Came in this thread for the schadenfreude but lol at that Larry Fedora article from IC. Not saying Fedora is London but bringing in a bunch of high priced assistants took our program from mediocre to absolutely awful very quickly. Bringing in top dollar assistants to "help" the head coach can be a recipe for disaster, especially if the directive comes from above the coaching level.
We're still going to get our heads kicked in on the football field tomorrow but imma enjoy this for a bit.
Essentially, yes, they cheated, but everyone did. Accordingly, no benefit was provided to student athletes that wasn't also provided to regular students.
I love Tobias regardless but I give him credit. He explained all the points in detail in a pm and he nailed every single one in the end. I'm stoked about it for any reason to say Fuck Duke.
congrats y'all. glad the NCAA didn't do shit. I love Ol Roy, UNC hoops is a blast to watch as an outsider. Hope this helps recruiting the elite players again (like Little) and brings many more final fours to y'all
