Chapo must be a midget. Sean Penn is listed at 5'9. None of those fuckers are ever as tall as they're listed. Guess that's why they call him shorty
Good Lord Sean Penn is an insufferable cunt and Rolling Stone is such a shit magazine. Here's a direct quote from his article: "I step from plane to earth, ever so slightly sobering my bearings, and move toward the beckoning waves of waiting drivers. I throw my satchel into the open back of one of the SUVs, and lumber over to the tree line to take a piss. Dick in hand, I do consider it among my body parts vulnerable to the knives of irrational narco types, and take a fond last look, before tucking it back into my pants."
Jon Passantino @passantino 7m7 minutes ago MEXICO CITY (AP) - Mexico notifies recaptured drug lord Guzman that he is wanted in US, beginning extradition proceedings.
He escaped through a tunnel and carjacked someone a half mile away. The carjacked person called the police and they nabbed him from there.
Nick Casey @caseysjournal 3h3 hours ago El Chapo moved from a prison he escaped from in a tunnel, to a prison along a border he used to build tunnels under. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/05/08/w...wn-as-el-chapo-to-prison-near-texas.html?_r=0
Merica put el chapos name in the thread title. This might be a subject that garners a lot of discussion in the future. Would be easier to find this thread if you did. Just a thought
Trial about to begin. The jury selection was highly entertaining. -one juror who was selected broke down in tears. She's afraid for her well being. She wasn't able to get out of it because "then we'd have a room full of cries and no jury -one man got off bc he works as a full time Michael Jackson impersonator and was afraid he'd be recognized eventually -one brilliant man got off because at some point, he asked for help getting an autograph from El Chapo. Also said he frequently got a bagel named after El Chapo daily This is the most bizarre/high profile trial in decades. They shut down the Brooklyn Bridge when transporting El Chapo. Same with the jurors. The jurors were anonymous until the night before the start of the trial. They are under heavy security. Even the witnesses are anonymous until the start of the trial. There are a handful that are currently under witness protection. Merica can we get a thread title update?
Vice New is doing a weekly podcast on the proceedings. Only 3 episodes out. Pretty good so far https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/chapo/id1440215666?mt=2
talk about an uphill battle for defense.. Prosecutors are also expected to use testimony from a dozen cooperating witnesses to prove their allegations that Guzman is the murderous head "of the largest drug drug trafficking organization in the world." Guzman, 61, is standing trial on a 17-count indictment charging him with drug trafficking, murder conspiracy and money laundering. His lawyer, Jeffrey Lichtman, focused on the cooperating witnesses in his opening statement — calling them "people who will make your skin crawl." "Imagine a group of witnesses who have lied every day of their lives. They are killers, thieves, drug dealers," Lichtman said. "Why is the government using gutter human beings?" He said the case will show that "government officials at the highest levels can be bribed and American law enforcement officials can be corrupt." As for his client, Lichtman said he's been framed. "Biggest drug dealer in the world! It's false. It's not true," he said, "Why is he public enemy #1? Because 25 years ago a Mexican cardinal was shot by mistake at an airport and Guzman was the intended target. The corrupt Mexican government needed a scapegoat," Lichtman maintained. "They framed him for murder and that was the beginning of the mythological status and his myth grew." "He's blamed for being the leader while the real leaders are living freely and openly in Mexico," he added.
Imagine the balls you gotta have to be a prosecutor against this bastard. Or hell even the judge. Security alone on this has gotta cost a shitload I’d imagine. It’s easy to see how they get away with this bs in a poorer country.
So what all would you do to not be picked/get off this jury? I have to imagine almost anything is on the table. I wouldnt want any part of it.
Big fan of the dude trying to get his autograph. That seems like a pretty good way of going about it.
Yeah i definitely wouldnt have thought of that but it seems perfect. I would have probably been full on panic mode and been willing to go to jail instead of show up.
The blueprint has been laid. "Oh, man! This is for the El Chpo trial!?!? No way, I'm so excited! Can I be lead juror? What a gentleman and scholar. Deserves a nobel peace price. Named my son after him.".
Seriously overreacting. This isn't Mexico where every government official is complicit, corrupt, or incompetent and anyone can be gotten anywhere. How many narco kingpins have been arrested, extradited, and tried in the states? Lots. No American jurors have been slain in response/retaliation.
“I read all about him online! The way he escaped out of jail from you unjust tyrants?! That was awesome”
No doubt. But I wouldn’t want to be a juror for some local bs, let alone a trial where it’s at least feasible that you might be in danger.
True, at the same time though there is a good amount of tampering and violence that has occurred with less violent defendants. I wouldn’t want to risk it.
fucking thank you. people are hilariously overreacting here and the days of narcos having any power on this side of the border are literally decades in the past. those people are terrified of coming to the US specifically because they know they can't murder, bribe, and intimidate their way out of a conviction.
Agree, but I dont think it's out of the question that some Cartel affliated people could intimidate a juror, especially when a family involved.
