Thanks for telling me! This is my very first day following recruiting and college football. Have any other really great tips?!
This is a lot easier said than done, these coaches are ego maniacs and they are incapable of relinquishing power to someone else, see Jimbo Fisher.
This psycho pretending he almost got Patrick Peterson and happy he had a great career after reporting his test scores because he was mad he went to LSU
I remember thinking Patrick Peterson was going to be a worse prospect once he changed his name from Patrick Johnson.
The joke is he is proud of a career he tried to fuck over by reporting his test scores because he was butthurt.
Kid was literally coming to UM games every other week and telling the northwestern group he was getting 20k for each OV and that they needed to go check it out.
I worked in the SID office as a student assistant. I heard Urban tell Percy that he had a dream about him playing in the Swamp.
Whatever. I’ve told the story a bunch of times. Kid was going to LSU long before he decommitted from UM. But boo has to boo and think everyone wants to be a gator for pure reasons and the evil dollar pulled them away.
Would love to hear more of these absolutely true recruiting insider stories from your time as a coffee runner for Randy Shannon.
Randy? Nice guy. Made a point to get to know everyone in the Hecht. Especially all the women. Nobody was safe. never got coffee for him though. Wasn’t my job. Stuffed a lot of mailers to recruits though. Also ran film to coaches who wanted to evaluate prospects. More often than not the OL coach Stoutland would invite me to watch with him and let me pick his brain. Really good coach.
Boo being boo. I’m not even claiming to have a big job. I was a student recruiting assistant my freshman year. My job was to stuff mailers and run tape to the GA’s and assistant coaches Monday-Friday, on Saturday I’d check recruits in and then sit with my assigned players during games to make sure fans didn’t bother them or committed an obvious recruiting violation that would have to be reported. I got assigned to the MNW group because I also worked for the Miami Herald as a HS sports writer during that time and had a prior relationship with them. yup. So hard to believe that I’d hear the conversations of UMs high profile recruits
was pumped when Chip brought him on staff because when he came to UM the OL immediately became functional for the first time in 6 years and fell apart immediately when he left
I enjoyed it. Accidentally was part of a minor recruiting violation the last game of the year that had to get smoothed over. It was the infamous last game at the OB where UVA blew us out. Matt patchan and his family were at the game and the father is disabled and walks with a cane. As the game was ending patchan and his family are being led on to the field and towards the locker rooms by their host. He waives to us to join so I follow behind with the MNW kids. It’s not our normal procedure but I figured they must be doing something different for the last game. We get to the locker rooms, the head of the recruiting office sees me and Jacory Harris and goes ghost white. apparently recruits may not step foot on the field during play and the school had received a special accommodation for patchan’s family only. Oops
For all the shit I'm sure she's gotten from giant weirdos, I don't mind her taking some victory laps publicly
I'd probably drink a case of wine in celebration if I had kids with Zach and found out they'd never have to see him again.
