look I cheer for programs who do things the right way, VU/IU/WYO
but I enjoy watching college football and the sport was unquestionably better with him around the past 15 years
I don't doubt Ryan Day is a good coach but just kinda confused by "he did such a good job as the interim coach" takes. Oregon St was 2-10, Rutgers was 1-11, and TCU was 6-6 (I know they were ranked at the time of the game).
If that's the narrative you're hearing, I think it's being miscommunicated. I think what people who aren't morons are saying he did an excellent job with the offense and he's shown promise as a recruiter.
At least we didn't hire someone with a sub-.500 career coaching record. #BoomNoleRoast
While I'm sure that's a big part of it, I have a hard time believing Day is named HC today without a search if he wasn't the interim for the first three games. Maybe I'm wrong on that, but I think those three games/weeks had at least something to do with this.
Dude that was weeks ago.
He probably doesn't remember that.
Bobby Carpenter mentioned it on Get Up as to why they hired Day
It has more to do with the team not folding and retaining focus facing adversity than it did with who they played.
The point is that he didn't do anything miraculous while he was interim but he didn't have to. He handled the media well and kept the car on the road.
It seemed like he was the defacto man in charge for way more than just those three games while Meyer died on the sideline
Does ESPN, FOX or CBS hire Urban to do studio work like he did during his last retirement?
Yes. Hell be working for espn right after the bowl game imo
Urban trusted Day with the offense and completely changing the scheme he had been using his entire coaching career. I think that speaks volumes.
Likely going to Chick Fil A for lunch. The spicy chicken with pepper jack is calling my name. Might even go for the chicken tortilla soup, if I’m feeling a little crazy!
i'd guess Fox.
I don't think ESPN has the stones to do it. I agree with Corch (something I never imagined typing before this moment, but here we are) that FOX is most likely if it happens. It has B1G games. It didn't rip him like ESPN this summer, and doesn't have as much to lose as ESPN for bringing him on. I just don't see what ESPN would gain from adding him this year.
How could a guy with his memory remember the statistics and such that are necessary for that kind of work?
that's what pen and paper are for. duh
That's fair enough. At Florida he tried something similar with Steve Addazio in 2010 and it's pretty certain he wanted Addazio to be the head coach but after a disappointing season it was never gonna happen.
Hahahhaa TC stop!!!
Yeah but how is he going to remember how to read?
I picked up some Panera chicken and wild rice soup because I got the sniffles.
He seems too vengeful to work for espn. I would bet FOX
Could be true on his end. I was just assuming they'd go after him for playoff broadcasts
Mentioned this in the CFA thread, but I have over 7,000 points now strictly from ordering trays for parties at home and work. I think it’s time to cash in for a couple spicy chicken sammies
I am eating a smores cookie and drinking a campfire smores latte icyww.
Too much s’mores.
I had a Clif bar and coffee this morning and am currently shitting
He probably forgot about all that ESPN stuff already, right TC?
USC will take Larry Johnson
No. He’s got three choices:
1. Stay on
3. Become my dad
Think he’s done after Ohio State
Buckeyes what are your thoughts on a 5 year deal for Day? What are your expectations next couple years on the field and in recruiting?
Do you think there will be any drop off next year like if Cardale leaves?
Like the deal because it shows belief in him.
Expect us to remain at the top of the B1G and contending for the playoffs every year.
Recruiting might not be Urban level, but consistently top 10.
Haven't read anything itt but is Ryan Day worth a fuck?
Catching up with the OP
The length isn't an issue to me. If he's a bust he'll be gone after two or three and if he's great he'll get a bigger deal after three, probably.
There's nothing but positive stuff coming out about his ability to recruit but he's gonna have to prove it now.
We expect a few changes to the program but he'll probably try to keep things pretty similar to how they are now.
Even Saban is scared of the B1G
Moving from Florida to Ohio will do that to you
Yeah the one thing in recruiting that interest me is OSU recruiting the Southeast and places like Texas now. OSU has always been a national brand but when Urban took over he took a lot of his time from Florida to be able to pluck a bunch of kids from down here and I thought that really pushed OSU over the top. WIll be interested to see if Day can keep that u as well as Urban did
Saban is a .500 coach in the B1G
I just bought an iPhone XR. Have a 2 hour training that starts here at 1pm and plan on setting up my new phone during that time instead of paying attention. Hopefully you guys can help me work it. I’m old school and like buttons.
More importantly I just bought a turkey bravo from Panera for lunch
Saban did ruin our lives in 1998, however.
good luck on becoming larry jr or tony. teresa cool tho.
I think recruiting in the Southeast definitely takes a hit, and that’s no knock on Day whatsoever.
Between losing the relationships Urban had there and having to compete with Bama/Georgia/Clemson/FSU/Florida that’s asking a ton.
