It's definitely a surprise, though he can't move to Estudiantes until he's 18 y/o. Estudiantes of course, is the club of the Hoyos brothers. It's extremely rare for an Argentine team to look outside of South America, let alone Argentina for youth prospects because they grow on trees down there. I'll remain skeptical bear until I see an article from a usual legit soccer source or from Estudiantes themselves. But goddamn the UK and their strict as fuck work permit laws. Had his name been Nick Mayinho, they would've given him the "special talent" exemption and would've qualified for a work permit easily.

Yes for the fall semester, then it'll be narrowed down for the spring semester as the team prepares for the U-17 WCQ and the actual U-17 WC.
Kid can still go to Clemson as he is a U17. Good to see that we have a kid from the Chivas Guadalajara system and I am sure he will be looking for a new club after his residency. for the Galaxy
I know, was talking about Clemson recruiting though. His family wasn't really happy that his club teammate got an offer from Clemson and committed when he is a much better player than the other kid. Kind of a slap in the face, as both attended the Clemson camp and play on the same team so if they saw the other kid, they saw him. Clemson can still correct it obviously, but we have recruited really, really bad lately to the point that there is no reason to go to games anymore and this is just another example of it.
Also, if anybody is unaware of how the USSDA works, here's the overview: http://www.ussoccer.com/Teams/Development-Academy/Academy-Overview.aspx
Some youth yank abroad updates: Bobby Wood scored for 1860 Munich's II team. He recently moved up to their reserve team from their U-19 team and scored in his 2nd game with the reserves. Sebastian Lletget scored over the weekend with West Ham's U-18 team, and was an unused sub on Tuesday for West Ham's reserve team. So it sounds like he's getting close to breaking into the reserve team full time as he gets back in game shape. West Ham getting relegated could possibly get Lletget into 1st team time next season if he progresses well. Will Packwood has been a consistent starter and getting good reviews for Birmingham City's U-18 team at DM, he's also eligible for the 2013 U-20 WC. He'd likely be playing for the reserves but for some reason Birmingham didn't enter into the reserve league this season. Shaq Phillips (CB) and Carlos Martinez (MF) have been starting for Energie Cotbus's U-19 team. Joseph Gyau has been a starter for Hoffenheim's U-19 team. Cody Cropper has been starting at GK for Ipswich Town's U-18 team, also eligible for the 2013 U-20 WC.
Update on Joseph Gyau and the oft-injured but ridiculously talented Charles Renken. I'm guessing Hoffenheim has told Vancouver to make sure Renken is fully cleared before he gets fully back into it. From reports, Gyau is the best player on Hoffenheim's U-19 team and will probably be promoted to the reserves sometime this season. Rongen continue to work to find all guys eligible, especially those German-American military kids, and of course the Hispanics. No rush on Renken since he's eligible for the 2013 U-20 WC team, which is starting to look like it might be pretty stacked as well. Just that Charles's injury allow him to return to form and he's not injury prone for his career.
Bayern - Fabian Huerzeler (actually born in the U.S. but has been involved with Germany YNT's, just like Jermaine Jones) Mainz - Shawn Parker
Roster announced for the Torneo de las Americas in Kennesaw, GA. The U.S. will play Colombia on 11/26 and Mexico on 11/28. Roster is effected by whether the club team would release them and some of the top college guys playing in the NCAA tourney, two more defenders will be chosen. GK Cody Crooper - Ipswich Town (England) Eduardo Fernandez - RSL Academy Defenders Gale Agbossoumonde - Estoril Praia (Portugal) Bryan de la Fuente - Chivas USA (MLS) Greg Garza - Estoril Praia (Portugal) Korey Veeder - Crystal Palace Baltimore (NASL) Parker Walsh - Karlsruher (Germany) Midfielders Sebastian Lletget - West Ham United (England) Alex Molano - Dinamo Zagreb (Croatia) Amobi Okugo - Philadelphia Union (MLS) Moises Orozco - Tigres (Mexico) Conor Shanosky - DC United (MLS) Alex Zahavi - Maccabi Haifa (Israel) Cesar Zamora - Chivas USA (MLS) Forwards Juan Agudelo - New York Bed Bulls (MLS) Tristan Bowen - L.A. Galaxy (MLS) Fuad Ibrahim - Toronto FC (MLS) Omar Salgado - Entering MLS Draft
Hopefully some good news soon. One of the best young players in the country (straight from Africa, was at the recent U14 US camp) has been on trial with Chelsea and Aston Villa and I heard his family is making plans to move there so I'm guessing he will get an offer.
I think they're also practicing at Kennesaw State, not sure if practices are open to the public, tix to the games are $14.
How in the hell did we get the captain of the German U19 squad to switch to the USA? Unless he planned it all along because they have a much better developmental system over there, and then switched when he felt ready... And yes, Cas will be very mad.
Zakuani didn't hold dual citizenship so it would have taken 3-4 years before the paper work would have worked out. This kid can play immediately.
Some of the German posters on Big Soccer said a few months back that it was known that Hurzeler wanted to represent the U.S. I don't know his background too much outside of being born in Houston, but I'm sure YA or another site will get an interview with him in the near future, and we'll find out more.
2 years I'm pretty sure. He attended Akron starting in 07. He would be 24 by the time he could play for us. Prime age for a call up.
Our 2013 U-20 pool is shaping up to be pretty damn good too: Fabian Hurzeler - Bayern Luis Gil - RSL Omar Salgado - MLS soon Will Packwood - Birmingham City Anthony Brooks - Hertha Berlin Cody Cropper (GK) - Ipswich Town Jonathan Kempin (GK) - Sporting KC Plus whoever else emerges from the U-17 and U-18 teams. Then apparently Charles Renken is close to returning to games for Hoffenheim's youth teams.
U-17's will be on FSC 3x this week. Playing in the Nike Friendlies in Phoenx as part of the USSDA Winter Showcase, which features all 78 USSDA teams. All games 7:00 et on FSC: 12/1 - South Korea 12/3 - Brazil 12/5 - Turkey Roster GK Kendall McIntosh (Mustang Academy; Santa Rosa, Calif.) Fernando Pina (Houston Dynamo Academy; Houston, Texas) DF Kellyn Acosta (FC Dallas Academy; Plano, Texas) Mobi Fehr (Tokyo Verdy 1969; Tokyo, Japan) Luis Martir (Chivas de Guadalajara; Los Angeles, Calif.) Alessandro Mion (Kendall SC; Miami, Fla.) Nathan Smith (Cal Odyssey; Clovis, Calif.) Andrew Souders (Columbus Crew Academy; Amherst, Ohio) MF Joe Amon (South Carolina United FC; Summerville, S.C.) Matt Dunn (FC Koln: Dallas, Texas) Alejandro Guido (Aztecs Premier; Chula Vista, Calif.) Nico Melo (Florida Rush; Kissimmee, Fla.) Marc Pelosi (De Anza Force; Sunnyvale, Calif.) Esteban Rodriguez (Cosmos Academy West; Palmdale, Calif.) Tarik Salkicic (Strictly Soccer; Pinellas Park, Fla.) Dillon Serna (Colorado Rapids Academy; Brighton, Colo.) FW Paul Arriola (Arsenal FC; Chula Vista, Calif.) Daniel Flores (Cal Odyssey; Fresno, Calif.) Andrew Oliver (Westside United; Indianapolis, Ind.) Mario Rodriguez (Central Aztecs; North Hollywood, Calif.)
U.S. wins 2-1. Alejandro Guido and Mario Rodriguez were the two best players on the field for either team tonight. Brazil on Friday, which features Bebeto's son.
They're just making up shit. I know one of their scouts here and he said Omar was warned before that they'd cut him loose if he switched to the US. I really don't know what they can get FIFA to do about a player they let go.
Yep, and I'm pretty sure MLS's attorneys were all over the legalities of the contract. I think Chivas now realizes that they could've at least held onto him until he turned 18 and sold him, but they've got their ancient Mexican only philosophy and released him. Omar's also in the process of getting a Spanish passport (his Grandfather is from Spain), which means he'll be able to basically go anywhere in Europe when/if that time comes. Now if we could just get Miguel Ponce to switch...
U.S. vs Brazil tied 0-0 early in the 2nd Half, and U.S. looked slightly the better team in the 1st Half.
Brazil is dirty as fuck. They've been fouling Mario Rodriguez all game and then just a few minutes ago, they fouled him again. While he's on the ground, a faggit Brazilian comes and kicks the ball straight at Rodriguez's head. The Brazilian already had a yellow and now has been sent off. Another red card on Brazil for a deliberate elbow, game is in the 80' still tied 0-0.
Disappointing result considering we had 11 on 9 for 15 minutes and didn't even get many good opportunities. The only players who impressed me were Mario Rodriguez, Acosta, Fehr, and Souders. Wanted to see Guido play since I've never seen him and Amon but he never came on. Yea Brazil was really dirty but the ref was extremely bias so I could see why they started getting pissed. Still pathetic by them though. The 2nd red should have been a double red since our player who got elbowed kicked the Brazilian after.
