Rumors Sark is trying to get him to Texas also. He’s going to be a good one. He didn’t have much to work with this year and gave us a pretty good defense. We can’t keep a DC so wouldn’t surprise me if he left.
The only thing I can remember in my time as a fan is Charlie Strong leaving to go to Florida. Ellis left but it was for a HC job. Beamer left as ST/RC to be AHC at VA Tech.
Kinda annoyed about Bobo but I don’t know anyone who actually wanted Friend. Hope they charge him a buyout just like Tennessee
i was just looking through the transfer portal, and at least we aren't the only school with large #'s of players wanting to leave
Was that a thing? Every QB we had under Muschamp got worse, so it may have been a good career move not to get coaching from that staff.
Chill guys, CSB only wants staff members who are 100% Cock "I am told Mike Bobo came to Shane Beamer and told him he was considering the opportunity at Auburn. Beamer immediately told him to go get the job and made no effort to talk him out of it. The last thing Beamer wants is to have any coaches on his staff who don't really want to be at South Carolina. The feeling is the contract Bobo was offered was in line with his experience and track record as a coordinator and there was no desire to try to match what Auburn was offering. Not because the money isn't there but because it simply was not justified." -Tony Morell
Didn’t like or dislike Bobo but I think it is actually healthy that he is gone. A lot of players did not like him from whatever reason and Beamer needs a fresh start. Hope he hires one of the Riley boys or a younger OC with some new concepts. Program is at the bottom so why not try something new and get the fan base energized. I was surprised they kept him. No opinion on Friend. The more qualified former players on the staff the better IMO. Darian Stewarts name keeps popping up for a position coach.
I like how Tony said that this was out of Beamer's control and then followed it with Beamer views it as a chance to upgrade the offensive staff....THAT HE JUST HIRED. Then Whittle posts the Panthers asst. OL coach as a OC possibility. Was the OC at Temple from 2013-2015 and Baylor's TE coach last year. Oh yeah, in between those two he got fired as the HC at Tennessee Tech after an investigation into "possible violations of the school's discrimination and harassment policy." JC says he set all kinds of records at Temple....wut? They had a NFL QB and this was their YPP ranking those 3 seasons: 61, 116, 89. Fantastic. short term the Bobo/Friend thing could be a blessing in disguise once you get past the optics. long term, it points to several of the biggest issues with hiring Beamer in the first place which we've hashed out here ad nauseam. he's gonna be replacing coaches like mad. it's like Orgeron with less resources. dude is hiring coaches until he's blue in the face. just not set up to be sustainable at all. The imminently discouraging (yet not unpredictable) part is the coaching community doesn't hold Beamer/SC in the highest regard...despite what everyone was parroting during the coaching search.
that's true, if we consider that Shane Beamer averages 1 offensive coordinator every 32 days so far, and we extrapolate from that, we can expect him to go through 7 more offensive coordinators before next season starts this is a very good point C-Pay, it's just not sustainable, the evidence supports your views
Ok I take that back as a potential blessing in disguise with the Satterfield hire. I mean it's pretty hard to believe. Panthers asst. OL coach, Baylor TE coach last year, fired as HC at Tennessee Tech after a 1-10 season amid an investigation for harassment/discrimination. The high water mark of his coaching career is below AAC average offenses at Temple with a NFL QB. This is a huge yikes if he's the sole OC. Only hope would be if he's a co-OC and the OL coach. But TBS and others don't seem to have that info (shocker)
Yes. And ....ok fuck them for bringing back some shitty orange color from the 1890's. Under armour trying to sell as much unsold Auburn product as possible just slap a different schools name on it
Wasn’t Beamer supposed to bring in big name coordinators? Wasn’t that the reason that people gave for the hire being decent? Assistant OL coach for the panthers and the Western Kentucky DC?
lmao there’s a serious thread on the big spur about how “Spurrier’s first staff wasn’t anything to write home about either”
Our AD is a nincompoop and got grifted by power point presentation by a guy looking to finally get his first HC job.
yeah i thought it was a bad hire at the time but the staff has been something I would expect at a good G5 job. Should have just hired the coastal Carolina coach if you were going to hire a g5 level staff and seen if he could have worked his magic again.
Wonder how many coaches have turned down Beamer behind closed doors? I know of at least 1 whose name has not even been mentioned. Maurice Drayton Assistant SPT coach in Green Bay, was citadel dc when they had a good run under Mike Houston and beat Carolina. Beamer asked for him to interview for DC job and he said no thank you, hung up phone.
