Also if we were always just hiring hi, why wait? Put him in place months ago and lets get the plan going.
So Gregg is going to get the head coaching job, and the new GM position will be reporting between the coach and the CEO, not the president. Old CEO just stepped down, and guess who the odds-on favorite is to get the job? The federation couldn't even bother to pretend anything's changed since Cordeiro was appointed.
I think the difference is we've known Berhalter was going to be the guy for 4-5 months already. Mexico actually had a search and named Tata right right before the playoffs.
I’ve been one of the loudest critics of the “coaching search” but the point is most coaches are going to want to finish the season with their teams. It’s not some conspiracy especially since up until the Columbus group stepped up MLS probably wished Berhalter would bail. Also Tata met with Luisa in Nashville for the 9/11 match and that’s when everything went down just like Fernandez reported (Max and Herc were actually at the same restaurant as them and watched the whole deal go down but didn’t get statements from them and said they wouldn’t report it until it was confirmed). But again, Tata was the 23rd candidate Luisa interviewed, we’ve interviewed 0.
as soon as Tata was the guy he was announced. and him finishing the season is FMF’s terms. USSF has carried out at charade for how many months to allow Berhalter to coach an entire season without disruption.
Fucking frauds. The way this bullshit coaching search has been handled should be a fireable offense. The writing was on the wall the minute Cordeiro was elected and I blame myself for ever entertaining the thought that the federation might not be run like an early 1900's political machine. My confidence now might even be lower than when Arena was brought back. No way this sham of a process could possibly blow up in their faces. Fuck you Earnie Stewart and fuck 9 year old me for ever idolizing you after the Colombia goal. I'll see you in hell.
Was the process a sham? Yes. But I think Berhalter will be a good hire. He has a clear system and can get performances from his players that exceed their usual capability.
This article and the recent Max and Herc podcast has to make you feel some sort of way for Pete. He’d be a shitty ass coach but would make a great technical director (as long as everyone else stayed out of his way).
SugarShaun with GB heading to the NT, do you think Steffen tests the European waters soon? Understandable if you'd want him to stay, but he's so good I'd like to see what kind of team he could land on.
We haven’t heard anything. I thought he was leaving when the offer came for him to go to the Championship. Ultimately when he does, I will be sad but I care about the USMNT for it to upset me because it’s a move he needs to make. When Josh Williams (Crew CB) came to the bar to celebrate with fans about the club staying, he specifically mentioned Zack as one of the guys (along with Wil) being really fired up about staying in Columbus so make of that what you will
Ethan with 6 saves and a couple nice ones/clean sheet. Massive for him. (And us) Need 2 guys we can be confident in.
Steffen apparently is a hamstring. Guessing that Guzan, Adams, and Long will leave after the England match.
I'm not really a Trapp fan to begin with but the fact that he's keeping Adams on the bench is especially annoying.
