Much like it isn’t time to talk about gun control after a tragedy, it isn’t the time to talk about change after an embarrassing qualifying cycle where we failed at every level.
I agree and all, but changing the fabric of American society is going to be a hard lift for US Soccer.
Completely agree. I think that's a change our society needs in general, not just for soccer, but I think it would be extremely difficult to do it using soccer as the vessel. Maybe at the national team youth elite levels where they can have the real conversations with parents, but it will be a long time before this country gets off the college education or bust train.
What do you know, thoughts from someone who has literally been at the pinnacle of what needs to be implemented here. Can't wait for his ideas to be summarily ignored because the ball was just a few inches off.
If we lose Jonathan Gonzalez to Mexico because they send him an invite on their world cup roster and we aren't playing in it, I will literally shit in Arena and Gulati's mouths.
I’ve hated Twellman for a long, long time, but he is gaining a good bit of currency with me this week.
Rumor that Ajax is tracking Miazga and may be interested. A stat for fun on him: He's won 2/3 of his aerial duels this season.
Guess who is also on the board of SUM .... Sunil Gulati ... and you thought FIFA cornered the market on self-serving interest.
There's no reason not to call in McKennie, Adams, EPB, CCV, and Gooch. They're all regular players in MLS or better leagues and are fairly settled in their club situations. I doubt Haji and Sargent get call ups as Haji is still kind of fighting for playing time out on loan and Sargent hasn't ever even played against men yet. But the other guys, get them in the national team environment and training together ASAP.
George Weah's son Timothy scores hat-trick in Under-17 World Cup for US http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/41650115
pulisic had a last second run that was absolutely special and put in a cross for pea to get the game winning header, but it was saved. literally last play of the game. crazy
Yeah there’s been a following for each match in the youth thread. A few of the guys here do a great job giving updates
Also tucked in that article is the fact that US Soccer's surplus is actually closer to $140M. Fucking assholes.
It'll be interesting to see where that money goes, because they were discussing ways to spend it a while back. Hopefully a big chunk goes to vastly increase scouting and improve player development.
I take it you don't like those choices. Is there a consensus choice that people want? I've heard a lot of anti-Gulati sentiments, but I haven't really heard of any one particular person that is getting major support.
There likely isn’t a good candidate because the position is volunteer. Big thing I’ve found from this is that USSF really should have massive restructuring. If we want to compete with the world we need to operate more like the world and less like American sports.
Pay them something close to Goodell or Silver’s salary and you’ll find some of the best candidates. We apparently have the money
That's far too much and not sustainable for USSF. $1-3M is though and would attract the right kind of candidates
Steven Gans(think that's his name) seemed like a good candidate, but saw it on twitter and could've been misleading.
