Deserved goal! I know it's a friendly but dear god the energy difference between these youngsters and the old guard is disgustingly absurd. Makes me very sad.
Lmao why is Bruce Arena in studio? I get that the American soccer community isn't that large but this is awkward as fuck.
Well that was more enjoyable to watch than most of the qualifiers. Some promising youth, could have had a couple more. Hopefully that howler doesn't get in Horvath's head.
That "tournament" idea is peak US marketing bullshittery. It's a distraction and a way for SUM to make money off of us being total garbage. Don't fall for it. Those games would not be meaningful in any sense.
I agree 100%, but at the same time it's not every cycle that teams such as us, Italy, Chile, Netherlands, Ivory Coast etc. don't make the world cup, and if it allows the youngsters a chance to get to play together against some top flight competition (even if every other team brought a youth infused squad), then I'm all for it and would watch.
you don't have to be so negative all the time. it would be a lot of fun to watch for fans and as druce said, probably very beneficial for the young guys give me a break with the "total garbage" shit
I'd rather our young guys be playing games (even if they're friendlies) and gaining international experiences next summer over sitting at home.
I'm all for it, barring there is self-inflicted age cap for our team. I'm open to other teams bringing old players cause a lot of theirs are stars. If we do a tourney and play a bunch of shitty 30 year olds I won't watch a single match
idk how many of the guys last night were MLS guys, but i'm willing to bet going against some of those teams backups and youth players is better comp than MLS.
https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2017...t-deciphering-current-state-usmnt-depth-chart "Gonzalez is the easy choice here, provided the US are able to keep him from committing to Mexico. Word is he's still rock-solid for the US, but El Tri are trying and I can't blame them – the kid is a prodigy. At age 18 he has locked down the toughest spot on the field for the best team in Liga MX." Imagining a midfield of Gonzalez, McKennie, Pulisic
Super, more games against boring Concacaf competition. Definitely more beneficial than playing friendlies against better competition...
Not much of a choice since UEFA is doing a Nation's League and CONMEBOL is playing official games nearly year round. Trying to get the joint Copa America is a must for CONCACAF, but obviously not for CONMEBOL.
I'd still rather play the Nigerias, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Japan, Australia, South Koreas of the world than a bunch more game against Cuba, Nicaragua, El Salvador, etc. It certainly is beneficial to most of the teams in Concacaf, but its nothing but a waste for US, Mexico, Costa Rica.
Problem with playing Asian teams during the club season is the travel for the players. It's why we've never played friendlies with them before. There's proposals that would eventually lead into a Global Nations League after the Confederations Nations League, and would effectively replace the Confederations Cup.
Big fan of the proposed Global Nations League. Not sure about every other year, but concept looks both interesting and provides meaningful competition with teams on your level.
Dumb question, but what's the latest with Gedion Zelalem? I haven't been following much. His age group is still young, but I'm curious about that age group though, because it seems like they're being overshadowed by the younger guys atm. It also seems like Julian Green isn't doing much at age 22 either. That kind of stinks.
They’re definitely being overshadowed and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing at least in the case of Zelalem. Green, may be more on him just not developing whereas Zelalem, those other guys are just that good
Sad thing is, really seems like Zelalem it’s due to development as well. I think he’s not even getting minutes for a second division Dutch league at the moment and that was pre-ACL tear.
Green and Zelalem have been processed to open up scholarships for younger potentially better recruits to use a CFB analogy.
Article just whines and whines with no offered solutions other than don't play games next summer against other teams that didn't make the WC. Also Zelalem was getting processed with or without the knee injury.
I've never seen anyone write in such a pretentious way, yet clearly have a poor grasp on soccer as the deadspin soccer guys.
